Thank you for posting this. I think Olga's version was superior-Olga had more flexibility and kept her feet together on the flip. I LOVE Steffi's dismount-it's named for her and rightly so.
I don't think that is called a Comaneci. It is named after Steffi. I also don't see how Nadia got that dismount named after her its a very simple dismount, a single back with a half twist, why do they feel it is so unique to name it after Nadia?
Nadia was the first to perform the shoot toe-on front/half dismount off of bars. It was unique in her day. Up to that point most gymnasts were doing variations of a hecht dismount with a few exceptions like Korbut who stood on the top bar and dismounted with a layout back flip.
or a 2.5 twist dismount, also a D. there might be deduction on landing (hard to spot) but at least she won't get 0.1 to 0.3 for cowboying legs, 0.1 to 0.3 for low landing and 0.1 for step
but this dismount is awesome. just sick really. To think it's still a D nowadays after 30 years.... would love to see it being done now. getting bored of double layouts (which used to be my favourite in 90's) and full in tuck, or double tuck forward when they are a bit original. Loved the Li Ya dismounts too. I want to see twisting dimsounts as well, they are so rare, maybe cuz they are artificially undervalued
Well Yurchenkos can be deadly when done wrong, or front handspring vaults if gymnasts miss their hands (as has happened). It's all relative. This is a dangerous sport if elements are not done correctly-but it's the nature of the sport-there is an element of risk. And no one as far as I knew was ever injured performing variations of the Korbut or Mukhina-of course few gymnasts tried them.
Olga Corbut the best!

Yes I knew that, but I would love to hear from her with photos. Her and Marion Kische were my favorites from that era.

I'm glad that you put this up. Steffi was a very interesting gymnast to watch. As others have said, too bad the Korbut flip is no longer allowed.

What the hell is that dismount called, a one-footed full twist away?

It's called the Kraeker-after Steffi. I think Nastia should try this dismount-it's a D like that gawd-awful dismount she is throwing these days.

How much I miss the Korbut flip!!!!! I wish it could be done in competition again...
The comentator said ti was criticised because it implied a standing. Is it true? And what would that be a criticised thing.
And was her dismount supposed to be like that or she just let go early or something like that.

I do too-I believe they should allow it back in competition again-as well as the Mukhina. Such moves are dangerous-but crowd-pleasers when done well.

And deadly when done wrong.
What's more important here?

i don't see how a comaneci salto is more dangerous than say a Mo salto on bars or a Def or .... you know? lol
i personally think that the technical commitee just don't want gymnastics to look like that.
