  • Religion... Mankind's first weapon of mass destruction.

  • like viewing that whole edition regarding this kind of film from avatz . n e t remove spaces

  • Christianity is about love ti is written in the bible love your enemy ask for your brother what you ask for your self but in every are there are idiots who translate religion according to their own sick ideas, and the name of Christ is innocent form their twisted behaviors i am christian and i will die christian and i feel so bad the noble scientist didn't deserve any of this the only thing she deserved is respect for what she has given humanity. shame on them.

  • @rdhcn You are wrong about Christianity being based on love. Jesus himself states that he did NOT come to change the laws of the Old Testament, and if you read through the Old Testament there is definitely some sick shit in there.

  • More movies like this should be made, their interesting and tell us how modern society has come to be what it is today.

  • @StudioValinor My point is that there is something wrong with human nature. To say religion is what makes the world horrible is not a sophisticated argument. Humans make the world horrible. Any ideology or belief people will kill in name of it including science. Even if it tells you killing people is wrong.

  • @arabianknight86 What people believe matters.

  • @arabianknight86 To kill another man is better than to enslave his heart, mind and soul. There is nothing really wrong with the ACT of fight and killing, people always did it and always will - it is a part of our nature. But just like sex it is shunned upon because of the slavery imposed by religions. You are truly a mindless sheep, unable to think for yourself and unable to truly comprehend that one should rather die free than live as a slave. There is nothing wrong with human nature.

  • Sooo getting it on DVD

  • This movie was amazing, and yet so very sad.

  • Great movie. loved it. When I left the theatre I had a sad feeling because:

    1) All that greatt knowledge that was destroyed - put back civilization thousands of years.

    2) The religious hatred and fanatacism that we see in the film is still very much alive among the christians and Islamists.

    3) Some people in the audience were offended on how the christians were portrayed. to them I say, the truth isn't always pretty. This movie forces you to think and it may challenge your beliefs....

  • @luigee78 i felt sad at the end, it took us a long time before Kepler realized the same thing, think of how long it will take us to realize other things.

  • Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Communism, Marxism, Maoism, Capitalism, and Democracy are all things that people kill in the name of. It is delusional to think that people only kill in the name of God.

  • Wow. Dreadful trailer. Looks good, though.

  • Finally saw this movie in a theater today and was blown away. It's smarter, more beautiful to the eye, and more interesting than "Inception," yet I fear practically no one will be able to see it in the US until it's on DVD, which a terrible shame.

  • @madjohnbrown what do you mean it is not shown in the US ? Is it really that offending to Christians ?

  • @yellowlynx The movie was not shown in wide release in the US; it was shown only in a few small theaters in some larger cities for a short time. This country is still in the Dark Ages when it comes to having serious discussions about the damaging effects of religion. Americans will always vote for a religious moron over an atheist genius here.

  • see it here: #CUTE Zero Cost Movies . com #OMG

  • watch google video:

Thomas McEvilley on 'The Shape of Ancient Thought'

  • @StudioValinor: You are so dumb it's sad. I train Brazilian Jujitsu and Muay Thai (again look it up idiot) I have NO WWF videos on my channel. I'm not "southern" I'm 3rd generation Californian. Your world is full of sweeping generalizations, stereotypes (when they fit your political agenda) and utopian fantasy (like you being educated). Your adherence to dialectic logic validates my every claim.

  • @StudioValinor: Where did I say I was a Christian? Your HATE for Christianity has turned you into an unhinged self righteous elitist fanatic JUST LIKE THE PEOPLE YOU CLAIM TO HATE!

I'm done with you, nut job idiots like you are a waste of time, enjoy your hate filled marginal life.

  • @StudioValinor: LOL You must be joking!!!! The French Revolution took place from 1789-1799 and may have eliminated the monarchy but turned into a blood bath where thousands of innocent people were beheaded because of fanaticism. Jefferson wrote the Deceleration of Independence (1776) 13 years before the Storming of the Bastille you idiot! Read "Sister Revolutions" by Susan Dunn you might learn a thing or two.

Jefferson got his ideas from Locke, Bacon, Cicero, etc.

  • @StudioValinor: Your writing skills indicated you didn't even complete community college.

I've read everything from Herodotus to Paul Kennedy (look it up moron).

Graduated from U Mass Lowell in 92' with a BS in chemical engineering, over 20 years in the biotech industry, worked for some of the top operating companies and consulting firms.

Oh and fuck you and your phony academic accolades.

  • @StudioValinor: Science?

Face it clown you have no scientific background or education.

All you have is a political agenda, a blind adherence to logical fallacies like moral relativism and ethical equivalency.

I have over 20 years in a leading science industry and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.

Stick with what you know, pop culture garbage, Marxist ideology and logical fallacies, leave history, science and geopolitics to the adults.

  • @StudioValinor: Uneducated idiot with an agenda: The Byzantine Empire or Eastern Roman Empire predated Islam by several hundred years and contained parts of Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Libya, etc. Look up “Muslim Conquest” and look at the map then look at the timeline you fucking retard.

  • The movie has errors when it shows Christians acting like the world...

This is the error, they are not Christians at all, only by name maybe.

Christ taught us to be passive, not like the heathens you see in this movie...God Bless

  • @StudioValinor: The crusades were a RESPONSE to the Islamic invasion of what were once Christian lands, you must get your historical perspective from MTV and movies. Witch hunts? How many killed by a few fanatics? Communism killed 100 MILLION in the last century all in the name of the State and secular humanism!!!

  • this movie is amazing have fun and see what wrong we have done in the name of the god

  • This film is full of errors, beware....

"God exist but we have yet to find him/her"

Now the Bible,Quran,Torah may contain the word of God. But its doubtful that they exert Godlike attributes. I'm a Christian, but I acknowledge that religion isn't perfect. God gave us free will and not to be bound by his so called "Servants". Religion is a supplement/Servant to society, not a master. For if a religion is the master, revise the Crusade, Agora events, Spa.Inquisition,Jihad,etc.

This is the wise word of the creation of the Lord.

  • "You don't question what you believe... you can't.

    I must. "

  • @DruellaBlack Love that quote!

  • In these dark days, I can see a big media attack against Christianity.

Anti christian lobbies are responsible and manipulate the history...

Because of this, the ignorant sheeps now are writing bad of Christianity on youtube.

  • @44rubino religion is dying on youtube and in my generation because we are finally as a whole realizing it isn't true. you have a minister, priest, rabbi imam or 2,000 year old book telling you how to think and what to do. we only have our minds. who's the sheep?

  • @44rubino

  • As a non-god-botherer I have no intention of wasting my life on proving or disproving the existence of a invisible, all-powerful(?) celestial puppeteer, who exclusively represents the interests of one particular (chosen) group of people be it Jews, Christians, Muslims, Mormons or Scientologists.Their infantile "doctrinal" squabbling pushes all of us back to the dark Ages.

But watching this movie remember that the religious fundamentalists have access to the nuclear weapons in 21st Century.

  • Religion = Control = Slavery

  • @chry200875 Weirdo..lol

  • @UndercoverCracker ...you like to be a slave ?...you suck !

  • @chry200875 Im no slave and Im not very religious but anyone with common sense wouldnt think how you do....

  • @UndercoverCracker Litle dude slave

  • @chry200875 Bitch tit.

  • @UndercoverCracker poor dummy, if you believe in an invisible man, you are slave. because anyone can use you like a puppet. ( in god we trust, semper fi, god bless america....)

  • @chry200875 So you only beleive in what you can see or explain. How very pathetic. Faith is something not many people these days can believe in. Youre the puppet if you only have that closed of a mind.

  • @UndercoverCracker How can you believe in something you can see ? please explain me !

  • @chry200875 Faith.

  • @chry200875: So you don't believe in protons??? Electrons?

  • Though I have hoped for a movie like Dune by David Lynch by Monsieur Amenábar but though the scenery was amazing and the costumes fitting still the characters and the story failed; not to mention the poor dialogues: The reference to the laws of Euclid was so ridiculous (read what Shakespeare made out of references to Pompey or Alexander the Great and Caesar and his commentaries); the actors do not convince as people from late antiquity but as modern folk. ...

  • And if this movie should pose some attempt to present science as a detractor of religion (especially the Christian one) I have to invoke Nietzsche about the inner alliance between the Ascetic Ideal and science:

  • Its relationship to the ascetic ideal is still not inherently antagonistic at all. Its even more that case that, for the most part, it represents the forward-driving force in the inner development of this ideal. Its resistance and struggle, when we inspect more closely, are not concerned in any way with the ideal itself, but only with its external trappings, clothing, masquerade, its temporary hardening, petrifaction, dogma. Science makes the life in this ideal free again, ...

  • since it denies what is exoteric in it. These two things, science and the ascetic ideal they really stand on a single foundation Ive just clarified the point namely, on the same overvaluing of the truth (or more correctly, on the same faith in the inestimable value of the truth, which is beyond criticism). In that very claim they are necessarily allies so that, if someone is going to fight against them, he can only fight them together and place them both in question. An appraisal of the value

  • of the ascetic ideal unavoidably also involves an appraisal of the value of science; while theres still time people should to keep their eyes open for that, their ears alert! (As for art let me offer a preliminary remark, for Ill be coming back to it at some point or other at greater length the very art in which the lie sanctifies itself and the will to deceive has good conscience on its side is much more fundamentally opposed to the ascetic ideal than is science:

  • thats what Platos instinct experienced the greatest enemy of art which Europe has produced up to this point. Plato versus Homer: thats the entire, the true antagonism on one side, the beyond of the best will, the great slanderer of life; on the other side, lifes unintentional worshipper, the golden nature.

  • This film is great, i saw it twice already its brilliant & sad at the same time, i even was one of the extras in it cos it was filmed in Malta. Sad how Hypatia died, damned witchcraft accusations from ppl claim to be holy.

  • Its not Christianity to blame for the wrong doing of crooked Christians. 1st of all Popes & bishops that command slaughter on ppl r NOT true Christians, even the same Christians that kill & break the 10 commandements especially for gain aren't true Christians. True christians never approve this pagan slaughter, the crusades, the inquisition etc. Many ppl throughout history claimed to be religious & righteous & twisted the word of God from holy to evil for gain of power & wealth.

  • well, there are so many people who claim to be true Christian (or true followers of any other faith or ideology). Any faith/ideology which claims to provide salvation for its true followers is always at risk at leading people to commit the most horrible crimes in the name of the true faith.

The 10 commandments btw only forbid the killing of a fellow Jew (or fellow believer), that is why the OT knows so many "crimes" punishable by death & so many wars. Coz killing isnt ruled out per se!

  • Just by claiming ppl r true christians doesn't mean they r true christians. its not easy to be true christian. I know a couple, an arab guy slit their daughter's throat after dating her, they just forgave him, they visit him in prison, give him food & they love him. For me those r true christians. Its not what u claim its what u do. just because bad ppl used religion for their own gain doesn't mean religion is wrong, ex: a knife is used for kitchen but bad ppl kill with it.

  • Will we see this in cinemas in Australia? Or has the Catholic church suppressed it here too?

  • in which countries has the film be supressed? I'm asking out of curiosity.

But as a matter of fact: i can't find the film in an y UK cinema either.

  • What do u mean the 10 commandments forbid only killing of a jew?? Thou shall not kill is for all ppls...

  • Looks absolutely brilliant. A pity it says so much about the times we currently live in.

  • A sad film but show how religion kills so many because someone reads some thing they way the words do what they want them to do....still that was many years ago but still not a lot has change now God has got more names and he is with them well thats what they tell everyone so after all that we are still not moved on. . . .

  • Fu&%in pagans...Christianity pwns the West.

  • scusate ma uscirà mai in italia?

  • Questo film non verraì mai distribuito in Italia se il Vaticano continuera' a bloccarne l' uscita.

  • I much long to see this movie as Alejandro Amenábar has proven himself to be an excellent director: Just watch Tesis or Abre los ojos! And if he got a decent writer for the script the story should work well: The rise of Christianity to power in the declining Roman Empire and the outrages its fanatics commit their; shown in the story of the philosopher Hypatia. I may quote Edward Gibbon himself instead of using my rough and all-unable pen:

  • "Hypatia, the daughter of Theon the mathematician, was initiated in her father's studies; her learned comments have elucidated the geometry of Apollonius and Diophantus, and she publicly taught, both at Athens and Alexandria, the philosophy of Plato and Aristotle. In the bloom of beauty, and in the maturity of wisdom, the modest maid refused her lovers and instructed her disciples; the persons most illustrious for their rank or merit were impatient to visit the female philosopher; (...)"

  • "(...) and Cyril beheld, with a jealous eye, the gorgeous train of horses and slaves who crowded the door of her academy. A rumor was spread among the Christians, that the daughter of Theon was the only obstacle to the reconciliation of the præfect and the archbishop; and that obstacle was speedily removed. On a fatal day, in the holy season of Lent, Hypatia was torn from her chariot, stripped naked, dragged to the church, and inhumanly butchered by the hands of Peter the reader, (...)"

  • "(...) and a troop of savage and merciless fanatics: her flesh was scraped from her bones with sharp oyster shells, and her quivering limbs were delivered to the flames. The just progress of inquiry and punishment was stopped by seasonable gifts; but the murder of Hypatia has imprinted an indelible stain on the character and religion of Cyril of Alexandria."

  • @GreatGrumbledook Whatta great woman!

  • @HistoryLover1550: [due to the HAL 9000 mad computer phenomena I will make the answer via my new internet incarnation] Sure, if she would have only depicted by a great actress and if a great poet would have written her lines; but so the actress playing her seems not to be a philosopher at all, the text is dumb and the story is boring; and worst of all: Modern wishful thinking about science, tolerance and other nonsense is mixed in the late antiquity.

  • @GreatGrumbledook I must say i do like what you have wrote someone who knows or has found out about the history .

  • @sleepingspider: Well, if you like what I have quoted you should read Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon as I did found these words in his books.

  • Megan Fox shoula been in this... fu$%yeah!!!!

  • This is the story of the Greek women philosopher Ipatia, who was killed

When do you show in the cinema?

  • the best actor in this movie is Ashraf Barhom.

  • wow, good movie its available to watch at 'bigmovies4free' - gr8 acting all the way through

    Saluti!!!

  • spain is diferent

  • I saw it here in Spain last week and it was fabulous!! Perfect to me!! I recommed it to all of you....

  • i'm spanish and i saw it last saturday. Just to say that this film have something specia. It's a film for people who ask themselfs about life, religion... I think this director is brillant! This movie is dedicated to all that people who was interested about maths, astronomy and choose that option and not violence! VEry clever film.

  • When did it come out?? It's not coming out in France in the cinemas, apparently )=

  • "Your god has not yet proven that his more merciful than his predecessor"

This movie will show that Christianity was also carved through violence just like Judaism & Islam

  • Well, you know, it's not as if it wasn't a well known fact! There's a lot of ignorants out there, though, but historical facts are not exactly a secret and all bigger religions do have a lot of blood and violence in their origins, and even present.

  • I watched it the last saturday, it's great... that's all

  • At last with this movie, we can have a taste from all the unhesitating slaughtering by Christians against Hellenes, against philosophy, against science against freedom.

  • @mynick79 What about Islam??! People have been killing people ever since we became humans.....Humans have and will kill each other for many reasons, you cant say its becasue of religion or just one religion. Christians believe in freedom so thats just a stupid comment....Many even believe in science because God created us and we created science therefore......

  • @mynick79: So you get your historical perspective from movies???

The French Revolution, the logical extreme conclusion of French Enlightenment atheism and "rationality" saw thousands murdered by the state.

This Reign of Terror, in the name of reason against religion, in just eleven months, from September 1793 to July 1794, killed between 20,000 and 40,000.

  • i see no ethiopians :-(

  • Nein, die Original-Sprache ist Englisch.

  • I think will be a great movie!

  • genial!!!!
