  • that was truly inspiring:) nice work, that was well deserved

  • I have to say, compared to Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is more user friendly. I'll be honest, I suck at Judo, due to the fact that even though you're using leverage to your advantage you still have to use brute strength to throw your opponent.

  • Been almost four years, curious how things are going?

  • how long did the exam tack

  • Nice ! 49yo ? Damn, you're so energic !

  • great job!!!

  • Outstanding! Congratulations!

  • Props, I'm glad I didn't do a test for mine though, I'd shit myself.

  • Yatane ii gakosasei!!!

  • Great job, and very good/cool sensei !

  • respect

  • great video.

only men with really small dicks have internet fights, nothing to prove.

  • caro muito bom este vídeo..

  • Well done! I just earned my 1st stripe as a white belt. I am very eager to work my way up 3 more stripes and then to the blue.

  • wow i wish i was in this academy!

  • its all about muay thai and bjj in mma

  • @skyhooligan1 and wrestling!

  • Ru guys using an aikido dojo?

  • this is awesome just started jui jitzu training cant wait till when i can do all of that that smooth

  • Man that would be satisfying. I really like this video.

  • Intense!Makes you realise how skilfull those black belt must be!!!I mean blue belt seems tough already!

  • im loving jiu jitsu its one of the best martial arts ive done so much variety and movements involved.

  • thank u for making all these videos!

  • I earned my Gracie-Barra BB in 11 years.

  • Great Job. Even at your age you still showed awesome heart, drive, and skill. This video is so inspiring. Pumps me up. Again Great job.

  • cant wait to get my blue belt hopefully sometime in the summer i get my belt promotion.

  • I can't wait until my test! This video is helping me get pumped! Congratulations! A couple of weeks ago I walked away from a fight when I was walking home. I got a Gracie BJJ t-shirt for Christmas and I saw the same guy at a store and he would not look at me. I went through his register on purpose but he would not look me in the eye. I would not wear a BJJ t-shirt if I was not training. BJJ has brought discipline to parts of my life!

  • the blue belt guys goin ezzzyy

  • The technique displayed at 1:45 allowed me to win a street fight.

  • I had to leave my last academy.. I wish there were more BJJ academies that graded you on your ability and skill not just on time spent training. Because some people progress faster than others.. It is rare to find tho.

  • does this look more Japanese JJ or judo to anyone else?

  • Sir if I ever see you I would love to shake your hand.

  • that was by far one of the coolest videos ive ever seen

  • nice stuff

  • Can anyone tell me how long it takes between each shot you get to move up the ranks in bjj? How long does it normally take to go from a white to black belt if you are highly committed?

  • @BluntActivist2008 It varies upon each student, but on average it can take around 2-4 years per belt and around 7-15 years to achieve blackbelt. But remember, there are also 4 stripes per belt to achieve before ranking to the next belt, so it's not just one belt to another, it's essentially one strip at a time. I believe this was said one of the guys in the the GracieUniversity training program.

  • @BluntActivist2008 8-10 years is the norm I hear. 1 year for blue (avg) 2-3 for purple 3-4 brown 3-5 black

  • good jujutsu, like the music too

  • And thats doing it the nice way well done ! ju jit su is fantastic, very effective and good fun

  • As a guy scraping 50 also, I have tremendous respect for rolling with the youngies. Congrats.

  • wow. amazing. it's good to see a real bjj school for once haha.

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • bjj isnt one of those martial arts that you have to train in for years and years to have any self defence help, it is excelent right from the outset!

  • awesome job. I am your age also, working for my blue belt. I really loved the end of the video, I can relate to what you were going through. I have to say, seeing you reveive your blue belt made my day, and understanding your journey, it made me feel allt he more humble and impressed. Roll Strong

  • i want a blue belt !!!!

  • lol . that was basically my bjj first stripe for my white belt.

  • @Reiken99 well arent you special

  • @Tracer564 um no not really . im just saying, thats the way we do it at my academy

  • 6.39....nice

  • That was awesome, congrats. Shows that age doesn't matter if you put your mind to it and put the time and effort into something.

  • your technique looks so smooth as silk, makes me want to train and perfected mine.

  • Good job on earning your blue belt! That's a humble black belt that you have as an instructor there...

  • 6:30 punishment begins¡

  • yo that throw at 8:00 was dopeee

  • Great work mate. Its addictive isnt it!!!

  • Good job

  • I'm a 3rd Degree Black belt in taekwondo. I've won trophies, awards, and instructed for almost 15 years now. Not ever would I want to get in a fight with even a BJJ blue belt. That's why in a couple of weeks I'm starting to train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. One of the few martial arts that can save your life.

  • @darthbilly very humble of you to accept another martial art, humility is rather lacking in many martial artists nowadays, good on you.

  • @darthbilly i take both taekwondo and brazilian jiu jitsu. im a 2nd degree blackbelt and instructor in taekwondo and and testing for my yellow belt in bjj.(yellow is the same as blue except you need to be 18 to get blue) I totally agree that bjj is much scarier to look at and is a great help since most fights end up on the ground but every fight starts standing up. sooo its good to know both :). and im only 13. and a girl.

  • @xxtehfavnoobxx I wholeheartedly agree. I never said BJJ was scary, in fact martial arts are, well, arts. It should only be scary if you have bad intentions. Also, I'm glad to know you can defend yourself, I hope you never have to use it.

  • @xxtehfavnoobxx i agree that most TKD fighters can hold their own but you cant just rely on TKD. TKD is great for fast kicks but not the kicks you would use on the street. seriously consider muay thai because its so basic yet effective in a real life situation. keep going with your bjj too. but really consider muay thai or boxing as your main stand up because every TKD black belt ive faced and im only 16, i have won the fight pretty dominately because i was able to take them out of their game.

  • @XteampunishmentX every martial art that clashes with another has people who are better than one from the other. im sure i could find someone that does muay thai that could beat someone who does TKD and vise versa. Also each fighter reflects their instructor.crappy instructor=crappy student

  • @xxtehfavnoobxx well actually no because tkd all there is, is kicks. all the effective kicks in tkd are in muay thai plus as you know thai has knees fists and elbows. chances are if the tkd guy beats the thai guy that means the tkd guy isnt doing just tkd.

  • @Tracer564 theres knees elbows and fists in tkd too. I have to break boards with them and when i spar people and i use them. tkd also includes blocks and gives ways to evade and evade and counter. You'd be right if I took classes in more traditional styles of TKD.

  • @xxtehfavnoobxx oooh alright ,see i learn something new everyday.

  • @darthbilly

I did TKD and now I do BJJ and MMA. Don't you think TKD will be better in a street fight tho. Sure BJ will help but think about it TKD is reflex and how many street fights you see that go to the ground? I know they say 80% but I don't see many especially in high school or even on the streets. Plus man on the streets grappling arts would be tough because theres cement people can kick in the nutes groin bite an whatever. Plus BJJ will not work against mul, tiple opponents.

  • @krnaxe I went to a pretty ill-reputed high school. Most fights I saw ended up on the ground. However, it was all broken up by the Officer at my school. I never said TKD was useless. I love taekwondo, its what got me into martial arts, and I would definitely suggest that anybody begin to take TKD. All I'm saying is that in a realistic fight situation, most of my TKD moves would take a backseat to BJJ. I hope you do well in your martial arts training!

  • @darthbilly ...if you are in one on one fight. Don't want to be on your back with multiple opponents

  • @ProzacPreacher well yeah, obviously. multiple opponents = why I conceal carry my .40

  • @darthbilly hehe. Couldn't agree more. Hard to get a better equalizer in a fight than a gun

  • @darthbilly I have alot a respect fo you sir :D

  • @darthbilly BJJ is better because if a BBJ fighter put you on the floor you would have no chance of winning because most of there moves our in the floor and if its not on the floor its while standing it makes them go on the floor.Ive been going to BJJ for 6 months , I used to go to takewono but its mostly kick and in BJJ a lot of there moves are counter attacks for kicks.

  • @darthbilly Amen. Taekwondo is a joke compared to many other arts. And yes, Ive trained tkd in the past for five years, and now gone on to train for mma.

  • @darthbilly YOU SIR, WIN.

  • @darthbilly This seems strange to me. Why would you want to take a street fight to the ground and submit the guy?

  • @sondelachez submissions are for competition. In a real fight you choke them until they stop moving. It's hard to explain if you've never rolled with someone who has years of bjj experience but once the fight is on the ground, they own it. It's not like standing up throwing punches where there's always a chance you could get caught with a lucky punch. Not the case with ground fighting.

  • @cruzander I think what sondelachez is getting at is that you are endangering yourself by going to the ground. A BJJ belt won't stop your opponent's buddy from stomping on your face while you are down there. If you're in a self-defense situation you should already be running.

If it goes to the ground, then by all means, a BJJ black belt is better off, but even for him he should be trying to get away before it gets to the ground, not trying to take it to the ground.

  • @daballz89 Well, there's nothing that is keeping someone swinging away at someone in the chaos of a fight from being blindsided at any time, really. Assuming your opponent will fight fair is a major weakness, I agree with you there.

  • @cruzander I disagree that you are just as vulnerable to a blindside attack if you are standing for many reasons, even if you don't see the second opponent coming at all.

In MCMAP, the #1 priority in a confrontation is staying on or getting to your feet. BJJ is a part of MCMAP, but as a last resort. If you're standing, you've got a ton more options, which is really the key. What happens when you take a guy to the ground and he pulls out a knife? Running is no longer an option...

  • @cruzander continued...

And MCMAP is actually about fighting your opponent, not self-defense. In any self-defense situation, your first thought is "run," and if that option isn't there, your second thought is "what do I need to do in order to make running an option," this is a flaw in BJJ. It's a great system, I love it, but the ego associated with it (I'm going to take down this bully and break his arm, even if it takes 5 min, and I can do that without getting scratched) is a major problem.

  • @daballz89

dude, my BJJ coach is Doug Esposito (look him up: Vanguard Gym) I don't think I'm missing anything from MCMAP in my training. I'll still take someone down and make them Deal with my Jitz rather than fight him standing up. I've been punched in the back of the head before in a fight.

And the escalation thing. Bottom line, anyone can kill anyone. I have a CC permit and I guarantee the deadliest martial arts in the world are smith and wesson and track and field.

  • @cruzander No you're not missing any of the jits covered in MCMAP, you're probably missing all of the other things covered in MCMAP. I'm not advocating MCMAP is a better system (that's the problem with most jits-only practioners, they somehow inherit the Gracie's ego that it is the best system for everyone, in any situation), I'm just pointing out why sondelachez was probably asking "why would you want to go to the ground," because you missed his point completely judging by your original answer.

  • @daballz89

It's not an ego thing. It's a matter of experience that people with experience in groundfighting will be more likely to win a fight on the ground.

  • @cruzander I can see this if you feel you're in a situation where you're stuck, running is not an option and probably won't be, and have no other choice but to "finish or be finished." I can see why you would want your strength to exploit their weakness. Like I said, from the beginning, I just wanted to point out what sondelachez probably meant by his question... because I'm sure he understood the point to a choke is to make the person pass out, not to tap out.

  • @cruzander continued...

My question to you is why take them down and "make them deal with your jits" if you can kick them in the balls and run? Since you seem to possess some "real-life scenario" logic judging by your S&W comment (which I loved by the way haha), you have to admit the quickest way to get out of a self-defense situation is the best way, and jits doesn't emphasize "quickly" at all. You're confusing "standing up and fighting" with "getting the f**k outta dodge as fast as possible."

  • @daballz89

If I can avoid a fight I will. If I can't, I'm going to avoid getting punched by closing the distance and break their arm if I can. There's no possible way to cover all the possible scenerios that can happen and my BJJ is the strongest tool in my toolbox as it's the one I train the most. I am confident that against an untrained person I could control them on the ground, in the same way someone who plays tennis every day would be confidant that they could win a tennis match.

  • @cruzander Haha you're S&W comment reminded me of my favorite self-defense video ever youtube.com/watch?v=2REG3-Wb5gM

  • @sondelachez

You wouldn't submit the guy. For self defence purpose you'd break whatever you can get your hands or choke him out so you can escape.

  • @sondelachez

Less chance of injury to yourself. Not to mention that 50-75% of fights will go to the ground at some point anyways, so knowing how to handle yourself on the ground is a real bonus.

  • @darthbilly awesome!! I have a purple belt in tkd and now a blue belt in bjj. I like the tae kwon do kicks but its really a good thing if you are fighting someone who knows tkd but not so good in prac app situations. BJJ is awesome. Way to be humble dude!! Respect!!

  • @darthbilly Taekwondo is the worst

  • @xXDaMasta18Xx taekwondo is cool........for first graders that is.

  • @xXDaMasta18Xx anderson silva, frank shamrock, the crow and fedor all disagree with you

  • @jsbjr86 taekwondo is not a realistic martial art. Everytime these taekwondo fighters have to fight they need to get on all their pussy equipment and when these guys fight they bounce around like a girl bounces on my dick

  • @xXDaMasta18Xx lmao thats complete bullshit no girl would ever bounce on your dick even if you had one.

there are more knock-outs in olympic taekwondo sparring then there are in olympic boxing

  • @jsbjr86 Bro u cant use taekwondo to defend yourself on the street. You get a karate guy versus a taekwondo guy guaranteed that taekwondo guy is gonna be bouncing all over the floor like a girl bounces on my dick. Taekwondo is all flashy kicks and shit. how about you compare some karate vs. taekwondo stats then come talk to me

  • @xXDaMasta18Xx lol we've been over this, you dont have a dick to bounce on.

I've studied both tkd and shotokan karate, they're basically the same style, tkd is a descendant of karate

most karate schools also require protective equipment for contact sparring

  • @jsbjr86 All those TKD jamokes use kicks only. Ive never seen them use any sort of punches, its all kicks. Karate is more versatile. Whenever i watch a TKD fight, there all bouncing all over the place kicking just like a girl bounces on my dick

  • @xXDaMasta18Xx lmao then you're a fucking idiot who hasn't watched a lot of TKD, go watch an ITF tkd fight, plenty of punches, but Olympic style tkd sparring is a sport that's primarilly a kicking sport that does not mean tkd doesn't teach hand techniques.

we all know you're a dick-less idiot yet you continue to live in denial.

  • @jsbjr86 well this is just making you look like a fucking jamoke. TKD fucking kicking and kicking no hand techniques bouncing around everywhere like a girl bounces on my dick

  • @xXDaMasta18Xx lol first of all learn english, then actually learn something about martial arts and finally you need to accept the fact that you're a dickless loser

  • @jsbjr86 fucking moke jamoke is a word u fuck up. lil cunt

  • @darthbilly there is an MMA/UFC fighter that said taekwondo is the most useless martial arts. It looks cool but you'de never do all that shit in a real fight. Don't remember who said it though.

  • @IceMunga tell that to fedor, the crow, frank shamrock and anderson silva all have tkd back grounds.

I love BJJ but TKD and Karate are also very useful

  • @jsbjr86 yeh im pretty sure it was silva that said its stupid, fancy kicks you'd never use in a real fight. If someone was to fight you in the street, all you'd think about is punching, shin kicking and probably even taking down the opponent. As to why there are stupid fancy moves that no one would ever use in an actual fight I don't know.

  • @IceMunga lmao you have no idea wtf youre talking about, Anderson Silva still practices tkd and uses a TON of tkd techniques in his fights, have you ever even watched the guy? Guys like silva, gsp and Machida have won dozens and dozens of fights with "fancy kicks"

that being said tkd isnt just about fancy kicks, front kicks, round kicks, back kicks, cut kicks can all be very effective in street fights and TKD DOES teach hand techniques, elbows, knees and even a little bit of grappling

  • @jsbjr86 Neva done TKD myself but ye it has it's uses in MMA. ITF is more usefull than WTF imo. I've said it b4, if u have a gd all round game in MMA u can add techniques from any combat sport and b successful wiv them wot seems 2 work a lot now r things that other fighters aren't expecting, I think that TKD is better in MMA as a part of ur arsenal but not that effective as a base.

  • @darthbilly lol if you where so great at tkd how come all your uploads are of you playing video games?, I train in both tkd and bjj and I love both they can both save your life if you're good at them

  • @jsbjr86 People have things called *gasp* Spare Time.

  • @darthbilly lol yes I realize that and some of us clearly have more then others, I like video games too but if you where such a bad ass tkd fighter why not upload a few vid's from your glory days instead of just putting up your X-box achievements? if youre actually telling the truth about the time you spent studying tkd why take a pot shot at something you dedicated yourself too for the sake of complimenting a martial art you had not even begun to train in at the time?

  • @jsbjr86 I'm most certainly not taking a pot shot at taekwondo as an art. It certainly has value within the martial arts community just as much as any martial art. I love taekwondo. In fact, I'm testing for my 4th Degree in summer 2012 (hopefully). All I am saying is that if I was attacked one on one I would most definitely go for BJJ.. And if there was multiple people I would go for Krav. Strictly from a martial arts standpoint, of course. I do have a concealed carry permit now.

  • @darthbilly so youre a 3rd degree blackbelt who's also studied a little Jiu jitsu and Krav but you're affraid to fight a BJJ blue belt and you needed to get a concealed carry permit? thats weak as shit lol.

as far as krav goes you can train tkd style and still use the krav paradigm in a street fight situation.

  • @jsbjr86 Weak as shit? You come over to where I live and tell me that you survived a mugging from 3 large men, 2 with knives and 1 with a gun. Haha, when it comes to the internet, people, even esteemed martial artists such as yourself, are willing to start petty arguments. I am not weak, and you are not a true man or martial artist if you cannot even finish the argument you started with any logical answer to the previously stated point. Your attacks are ad hominem. I am not answering you further

  • @darthbilly true martial artist and real men dont need to carry guns and yes I have been held at gun and knife point.

  • @jsbjr86 You, sir, are a daft, daft, man.

  • @jsbjr86 hahah taekwondo cannot save your life bro get real. Taekwondo is a fucking joke. get on your padding and fight puss

  • @xXDaMasta18Xx lmao what ever you say little boy its pretty obvious you have no fucking clue what your talking about

  • @jsbjr86 lol ive been training in karate for 20 years fucking jamoke. What are you fucked?

  • @xXDaMasta18Xx lmao sure you have been kid.

if that were true and you knew anything about both styles you would realize that they're two sides of the same coin. The Japanese taught Karate to the Koreans and the Koreans used it to create Taekwondo their equivalent of Karate. The techniques and principles are nearly identicle.

  • @jsbjr86 close your legs, there is a pungent smell emitting from your legs

  • @xXDaMasta18Xx your mothers been spreading that around

  • @jsbjr86 I dont even play those games anymore. I just use this acc to comment and look at vids. Anywho, I never even said I was great I tkd... I'm pretty sure mui thai, wrestling and bjj is a lot more reliable than tkd...

  • @IceMunga I'm pretty sure you've never even been to a tkd school and you have no idea wtf you're talking about.

I wrestled in high school, wrestling is a great sport but it sure as hell is not a martial art or anything thats going to save your life.

muay thai, bjj and tkd are all great martial arts

  • @jsbjr86 LOL! Wrestling is used in MMA... It's using body weight to control the opponent. Look at UFC fighter's base martial arts, some were disciplined in wrestling before getting into MMA. A lot of Wrestling base fighters are very very good fighters as well, and yes I went to a few classes a few years ago.

  • @IceMunga lol no shit, I realize there are many fighters in mma with a wrestling back ground that utilize it in in fightsbut they have all also studied martial arts like muay thai, tkd, karate and most of them also have studied BJJ. Every fighter in the upper levels of MMA cross trains, if you took a pure wrestler with no other form of training and threw him into a fight against somebody with a legit martial arts back ground the wrestler would get killed

  • @jsbjr86 I know that... I never said a wrestler wouldnt get rolled by an MMA fighter.

I'm not saying I have major experience in tkd and all this shit. I was referencing that a UFC fighter said that tkd was probably the most useless martial arts he did out of the lot. Just a reference...

  • good job man

  • awesome...ligit blue belt...

  • 48 y.o. much honor bud congrats...

  • Good job....Congrats and keep it up

  • Nice job man, Congrats I remember those days as a blue belt. it was fun and painful, but now as purple it's more painful. I don't think my 16 years old ass can take much pain. but it's all good it's part of the training. Congrats again

  • nice job man.

  • Awesome dude. I know it was ages ago, but congrats on joining us blues!

  • good rolling

  • Look at jigoro himself watching in the background

  • If I had a choice of who not to fight in the street its a BJJ,and Judo Black Belt, even a Blue Belt in BJJ is somone who can hold there own. Damn,I have not trained in 2 weeks!

  • @yeee941

On the plus side, if you're fighting a BJJ guy, there's a good chance they'll be well-mannered enough to have mercy should you have to tap. :)

  • @yeee941 Heck! Even some white belts can hold their own!

  • @yeee941 Thanks I'm flattered! I'm both!

  • where is this school?

  • thats crazy that he can do that at 49!

  • Roy Dean is my hero!

    -Keith Owen

    Pedro Sauer Black Belt

  • i agree!

  • Cool Documentary :) Inspiring :)

  • right at 8:00 theres that badass takedown

  • exelent teacher! - exelent students!

    i

  • Awesome Vid...Great technique and execution

  • Great Video, when are you getting your purple belt?

  • there are some many moves to remember...

  • thts the whole point of this.

  • very cool - btw: you don't look like 49 .. rather like 29!

  • nice guy

  • good test, i hope you dont think your purple is that easy.

  • great job man

  • I'm 27, so it's great to know that I can I easily have another 20 years to keep rolling and learning, very motivational. I think Carlson grappled until he was into his 90's, great sport!

  • Carlson Gracie died at the age of 71. Did you mean Carlos Gracie?

  • well done

  • If it is Brazilian JJ, why is everything in Japanese?

  • What? Where did you learn your history? Japan never tried to invade Brazil. And that is not how BJJ began. What are you 10 years old?

  • Because the japonese have a more spiritual way of seeing things and i really like BJJ and I also like how this guys kept the spirituality of the martial art alive.

  • not bad for your age man...

  • so slick

  • I can hardly wait to start training in BJJ!

  • what does big symbol behind dennis in the beginning mean?

  • it says aikido

I'm guessing they are using aikido dojo... very strange for a bjj class to do budo rituals...

  • Fantastic job!

  • Great test! I'll be testing for my blue belt through the Gracie Academy when I hit 58 in August. It should be fun and challenging. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • very impressive! your school looks like a great place to train.your technique is very tight brother, congratulations on your promotion, and thanks for sharing.

  • Bravo!
