Regarding Metal Slug done correctly in 3D, essentially that's Gears of War. Watch a video of Metal Slug, then watch a video of Gears of War, and you'll see a ton of elements that are the same. It's almost as if they copied Metal Slug.

Just look at the shape of the explosions of the MS grenades and the GoW grenades, the look and feel of the machine guns, the close range melee moves, overly bad-ass enemy design and gore, etc. The troika gun is also just like the stationary gun from MS 1.

You forgot to mention the game between metal slug and contra. It called GUNFORCE (has two versions), maybe you can put this in the section "AWESOME GAMES NEVER PLAYED".. Its for arcade. For my money... its better than Metal Slug.

Definitely adding Alien Hominid for the PS2, GC... and not sure, but probably Xbox too. Metal Slug just rocks and are indeed all instant classics and are a true joy to play even multiplayer.

As for some games that might not've done so well in their 3D transition, I'd say Castlevania... it all looks great, but the exploring just isn't the same and gets very repetetive in 3D. Aswell as Metroid... although Prime did great, the 2D puzzles, skills etc just brought the charm to these series.

Super review, agreed 100% Every word you said coulnd't be more true. Love metal slug, got the anthology on the ps2. Most games translated in 3d lose their originality, serioulsy. Because 3d is today's almost basic form of entertainment doesn't mean that the good older games need to be 3d...I also highly think that drawn pixels takes a Real artist to create, unlike rotoscoping 3d models.

That's all well and good, BUT...Does Metal Slug have "Non-stop action?" "The Untouchables" for NES; now THAT's Non-stop unfun action. A nice horrid game to review is "Layla" for NES. It's horrid because it could have been nice with better controls.
