  • I also believe raw milk after a workout is very beneficial due to its enzymes and complete protein. However it is slow digesting (80% casein) and has no carbs. Do you not consume carbs after a workout?

  • Thank you for saying it correctly.....Ka-fear! good man!

  • Dude, this is totally, like, amazing! Kefir with it's kick butt SCOBI action NOT ONLY makes you HEALTHY, it makes you shave off your beard! IT makes you YOUNG AGAIN. Then all the babes are like, "OOOh, you look awesome" and your'e like, "oh yeah, me and my scobi buds are just groovy, baby, - GROOVY!" Drinkin' Kefir is like shaving your chest, WITH A LAWNMOWER!

  • WRT using metal with kefir, I think it's no big deal. I put my grains in a metal tea infuser when I ferment kefir. It works great!

  • hey, im from poland and we say on this product just like you dude (the movie). In Poland you can buy kefir for about 50 cents ;)

  • If You Live in Los Angeles Ca, & want Some Kefir, Message Me :)

-Si viven en La area de Los Angeles, y Quieren Kefir, Mandame un mensaje.

  • @LOWxRAINxAH Los das gratis? o de acomo?

  • Great video! Kefir seems very easy to use.

I've been researching kefir, and found it can reduce inflammation in the body. I guessed this would probably help reduce pain and shorten healing time if muscles got sore from working out. Have you found this to be true?

  • Looks good, how much of it do you drink each day?

  • What is the nutritional value of Kefir? I'd like to try this and would like to know how many calories, fat, sodium, carbs and protein it contains. Is it healthier than yogurt? I currently eat a brand of yogurt called Chobani and it seems like it is very good for me nutritionally as well as taste. But I'm always looking to try new things. What are the health benefits of eating kefir? Do you eat it or drink it? Can you mix fruit into it or add honey?

  • @vidform I have a video on kefir that explains some health benefits and yes. It is MUCH better than yogurt with millions more probiotics than yogurt. Check out my video #89 if you wanna. Also check out a site called...hmmm. Site name is too long but google Dom's kefir and you will see lots of link to this mans site. He has done tons of research on the stuff and gives a pretty full background and understanding of why its so great. You will also find tons of other articles online. Its great stuff!

  • My mom makes Kefir every night ... you have to have a net thing over it so that it lets the bacteria breath and you can drink it after 24hrs and you have to make sure to wash the kefir grains before starting all over again.

  • Great vid :) Very helpful and I like the way you made it nice and straightforward - people are good at overcomplicating things!

Might be best not to use metal utensils though! :)

  • southern post workout youtube.com/watch?v=wfZ8bJM19Eg&feature=player_embedded

  • @alohaumi8 No, he is pronouncing it correctly. Anywhere in the former USSR, it is pronounced keh-FEER.

  • Whey protein with almond milk for me is way better

  • Or you take a whey shake after training..

  • So you don't stick it in the fridge for 48 hours? I'm thinking coconut kefir sounds safer ;)

  • I was wondering how much kefir you consume a day, and since you drink it after workout. Do you mix it with your protein or..?

Awesome vid by the way. 5* from UK

  • Kafear is correct! Keefur is totally incorrect.

  • It IS pronounced "ka fear" not "kee fur". Good video. Metal utensils are ok to use as long as it's not for an extended period of time (like storage). The acidity in the kefir eats into the metal over time.

  • wrong wrong wrong !!!!!

  • @alohaumi8 Easy there buddy. Merriam Webster says otherwise. I have heard it both ways. Feel free to check out this link:

  • @GarageStrength

    His pronunciation is correct.

"Kefir" (pronounced keh-feer) is Turkic for "feel good."

Except for its adaptation (and modified pronunciation) in the English language, no such word exists in the English lexicon.

  • @GarageStrength yeah I think you're right man :) Loads of different pronunciations all over the world! You may well have the right one I dunno ^^

  • @alohaumi8 Cant post the link. Go to Merriam Webster.com and type in Kefir and click on the pronunciation.

  • @GarageStrength lol to alohaumi, you are saying it right its is ka- feer. I am from India(they got kefir it in india too from centuries) and know how people pronounce it the right way. Just one question which state are you from - you have got raw milk there!

  • @alohaumi8

He said it right but of you went to a store in the US and asked for it that would know what you were talking about.

  • @alohaumi8 I think the people who know how to pronounce it would disagree. I made a video on it a year or two ago and some guy just really was pissed that I was pronouncing it wrong and that Americans change the pronunciation of things without caring about the origin. I asked my blog followers if I should have been angry and they thought I was being disrespectful to their culture by pronouncing it wrong the way Americans have started saying it. Apparently Ke fear is correct.

  • @alohaumi8 It's not Kiefer Sutherland -- it's kefir.

The guy in the video pronounced it right (keh-FEER).

  • Good vid but watch your weight fellow !

  • @kabwa34 Hahaha oooh I'd DEFINITELY pay 5 bucks to watch you say that to the dude's face.

  • Nice to finally find a video about kefir that someone bothered to edit .

  • not supposed to use metal on the grains

  • it's pronounce kee-fur

  • So you can re-use the kefir grains?

  • where did you get the nice big glass jar? and where can you buy the grains... nice video!!!! :)

  • man you must use plastic tools not metal for this type kefir.tride to read this on internet.

  • You shouldn't use any lid while fermenting because bacteria need oxygen for fermentation. Use cloth over your jar to keep insects away but to allow air circulation

  • Comment removed

  • you are the shit!

  • Any easier way then using a spoon to get the grains out is to use a sifter/drain thing (I can't think of the name). It saves a lot of time.

  • Yumm!!

  • whoah! what happen to the beard?

  • not dogging on you, just saying it's pronounced "key-fur"/"keee-fer" and not "kef-ear"

good vid and way to spread the good news

  • @haonhack44

Actually, it is pronounced kuh-fear - most people say kee-fer, but that is actually incorrect.

  • you can buy kefir in stores, just like yoghurt.

  • where or how do you get the grains?

  • @tplayer73 i just got my kefir grains at livekefirgrains(.)com

fast shipping, and got going right away. they also gave me yummy recipes. =0

  • Do u eat the grains ?

  • Good demo. How fizzy is the kefir? I have read that you need to be careful with the glass exploding, but I've also read that your method, with the rubber-stopped lid, is the best and produces the best texture. That batch looked about perfect. Seems like you have been doing this for some time, right?

  • It is not overly fizzy. A nice sour taste. I never had had any issues with the glass nor have I heard of any issues from friends. My batches are quite tasty, the only time I struggle is when the seasons are changing, fermentation time varies from week to week.

  • It is Turkish drink and original grains come from Altay Mountains. Yes we Turks drink it even before from Jesus Christ. Kefir is way healthier than yoghurt or any other pribiotic food on market.

  • @GarageStrength

i miss drinking kefir in russia...

  • @Outpost206 There is not enough sugar in the milk for the kefir to ferment and turn into c02. If you added alot of sugar, any kind will do, and if the jar is tightly sealed it might have enough pressure to explode.

  • @Outpost206 easiest thing to make in the world.

  • had some kefir milk the other day , after about 3 days my stomach was and still is playing up , as in aches and very tender , anyone know why ???

  • That happens with some people, but it is considered a good sign, and is only temporary. It is known as a "Herxheimer reaction." The kefir has killed off high numbers of "bad" bacteria in your gut.

  • well that was few months back ,now all

    ok thanks

  • LOL, you shaved while the kefir was being made. :)))

Nice video. I only suggest that if that spoon was made of metal, you should replace it with a plastic or wooden spoon, preferably plastic. Contact with steel damages the bacteria-yeast balance in kefir grains. Or at least I've been told so.

  • Yes, my sister-in-law believes this as well. I have maintained the scoby (bacteria-yeast) while using a metal spoon. Perhaps the idea is debunked? I don't know. I use metal, others use wood. If my colony dies, I will inform you of the tragedy from the metal spoon!!

  • It supposedly doesn't kill the colony, but has a negative influence on the bacteria-yeast balance which makes them less efficient. According to what I've been told, silver and refined steel (I don't know what it is and what makes it different from regular steel) are safe to use.

Also, many people say that the grains shouldn't be washed with tap-water because of the chlorine... but the guy I got my kefir grains from does that on daily basis. Anyways, good luck and continue making good kefir! :)

  • The reason people say not to use metal is because of something called the oligodynamic effect. Stainless steel doesn't demonstrate this effect very much so it's a pretty safe metal to use for probiotics. Any metal should really be fine though since it usually takes many hours of contact before anything starts to die. Look it up on wikipedia for some more info :)

  • apparently stainless steel is ok but aluminium and copper affects the kefir

  • so whats the protein , fat breakdown , do you think per glass

  • So a few days after watching this, I found a bottle of kefir at my local market. It is goddamned delicious.

  • You are quite lucky to have access to raw milk my friend. I still make kefir with pasteurized milk, beggars can't be choosers after all!

You are right though, when I'm finished working out, I'm daydreaming of getting home and drinking some kefir with sliced banana's strawberries and some stevia sweetener mixed in. Sure beats the typical banana split.. From now on, I only eat cultured dairy products.

  • I do indeed refrigerate kefir.

  • @GarageStrength

While it is fermenting or only after?

  • Did you refrigerate the mix?

  • sounds very russian

  • im buying you a apron lol

  • Nice video, though I believe its pronounced, "KEY-FUR", son.

  • he's pronouncing the word correctly.

  • Agreed. The spelling 'kefir' comes from non-English languages and the transcription is phonetic. It is properly pronounced as 'kɛfir (similarly sounding as DEAF-EAR, only starting with 'K') and not as 'kiːfər (KEY-FUR), as it is most commonly pronounced. The pronouncing kə'fiːr GarageStrength makes is closer to original.

  • it comes from Turkish. I am Turkish. We say Keyif for a "good feeling" In the old Turkish it is Keif. In Istanbul Turkey we say it like this guy but the beginning of the word is more like the word KAY with no Y. I dont know if i could explain it :)
