  • Jesus Christ! Is Cliff Bennett still singing like that!!!?!? I got to get a better quality recording of this into my life! As well as everything he has done since 60's!!!

  • Tony Hall is my stepdad and has played with Cliff for some years now. Sid has gigged with Cliff for years. I remember going to Sids house when I was a kid. Known him for about 30 odd years. Top fella. I've never heard Tony called 'Tony too tall Hall' before. I like it.

  • Sid has been in every band Cliff has had I know that to be true because Cliff told me in a radio interview I did with him, no oneelse holds that accolade.

  • Well if you were behind his website you obviously have knowledge from the horse's mouth so to speak. I have it from a reliable inside source that only Sid has played with Cliff in recent years, indeed Sid is credited with playing on the last CDs released by Cliff but not Moss. I'm assured that Moss never rejoined the Rebs, and shortly after their demise took a completely different career path. What ever the facts of the matter I agree with Darren, who should know, re. this clip's personnel.

  • Thankyou, especially Darren, i played drums for Vanity Fair, but saw The Rousers at Black Prince, Dartford, Wonderful -- we pinched Sweet and Lovely, Shoes and of course Crazy 'Bout My Baby, all Fab numbers. - BTW Paul played with Kinks at Corn Exchange, Rochester, who hadn't in fact been booked! The Promoters did a runner and we played all night, until the Police turned up, no not them! The service lot!!

  • God im right at the front here, what a weekend it was but unfair on the artists whose cheques bounced on them by the promoters

  • Cliff still sounds GREAT!

  • used to see them every friday at the fender club kenton in 60s great memories

  • He hasn't lost the voice, nice to hear it.

  • From what I can make out original Rebel Rousers are Moss Groves & Sid Phillips are the brass section, Robin Shaw & Robin Box from White Plains, Edison Lighthouse and First Class are on bass and guitar respectively.

  • I can't comment on the bass and guitar players, but I'm pretty sure you're right about Sid Phillips on sax. However I think the rest of the horn section is made up of Tony "Too Tall" Hall on sax and Bobby Lovett on trumpet.

  • @soulgalore Isn't Moss in the middle?

  • @npwd No it's Sid - check out his Facebook page. I was once told Moss stopped playing after the Rebel Rousers and opened a model making shop in Birmingham. Can anyone verify that for me please?

  • @soulgalore I was running Cliff's website up until about 3 years ago and Moss & Sid were both still with him.

  • Great to have a relatively recent Cliff B video posted, even though it's hard to make out who's who due to the harsh lighting. Bennett was, and to this day remains one of the most undervalued UK talents, I hear his vocal style replicated by more feted names time and time again. It was Cliff & the Rebs' full blooded records that first got me into soul music, for which I remain extremely grateful.

  • Hi, I'm Darren Bazzoni, I played drums for Cliff for 15 years. The line up is :

Cliff Vx, Me-Drums, Rob Shaw- Bass, Rob Box-Gtr, Sid Phillips- Baritone sax, Tony Hall-Tenor Sax, Bobby Lovett-Trumpet. Still a great band and guys, love 'em all x
