I'm so sad that I only got into Beefheart a year ago, now it seems that this musician has passed on and I will never meet this genius. We can all contribute, however little, to playing an instrument on one album and calling it 'The Capn's Beef."

To me this is straight Motown; doesn't do anything for me. But John Lennon said he loved Elvis, too, and I was never an Elvis fan. When I saw the title I assumed this was the song "I'm So Glad" from Cream.
haha, I had the same thing. but still, there are many kids that love zappa and beefheart. they're just a little harder to find. I think it's our job to keep their music alive.
@Bangrone I'm 16 and I absolutely love Captain Beefheart, Zappa, Primus, The Residents, Ruins, King Crimson, etc. My musical taste started with Primus, then went backwards. I must look up these Flying Burrito Brothers. They have to be amazing if you mentioned them next to Beefheart and Zappa!
@Bangrone No, you aren't! I'm 15, I'm Italian....and i love Beefheart, Zappa, Primus, Deftones, Mr. Bungle, Velvet Underground, My Bloody Valentine and stuff like that! (potevo anche dirtelo in italiano :D)
My favourite song off Safe As Milk...btw... I'm raising public awareness about the Chinese Communist Party persecution of 70 million Falun Gong spiritual practitioners for the last 10 years in China. They are put in slave-labor camps and forced to make stuff sold here. They take organs from them to sell on the black market. The media doesn't cover it. It must stop. Thanks.
I think both albums are great. Safe As Milk is just a great easy listening album with alot of unusual rhythms and crazy vocals. Trout Mask Replica is great because it sounds like alot of noise the first time you hear it. But the more you listen to it, it's getting better and better, because you get to understand the music. Captain Beefheart meant to sound it like this, it's not just a group of musicians that play just some noise and don't know what they're doing.
'just noise'? trout mask replica was a carefully conceived and meticulously rehearsed album. the musicians were so well instructed after eight months solid rehearsing they recorded the album in just 4 1/2 hrs. the reason it may sound odd is because it is an extension of musical forms, not just a band churning out the same shit we're all comfortable with.
@billyshitcheese Thanks for saying that better than I would have. Needed to be said. Trout Mask Replica is one of those few albums that I keep coming back to and that never disappoints.
yes, both both were and both were both overrated shit-mongers of dubious talent, unlike the cap. who, in the words of the venerable john peel, 'was the only genius in the history of popular music'.
the black keys do a great cover of this song.

leaves burned just like just like a spark
Now I'm glad
glad about the good times that we've had You went away I cried night and day
for what you done I had to pay
Left me so blue I don't know
where to go or what to do
please come back and let the sun shine through
