So many people have claimed that Maureen McCormick was the voice of this Chatty Cathy doll that I feel compelled to repeat my earlier cmment: Maureen was the voice of a later edition of the doll. This originaLChatty Cathy was voiced by June Foray ("Rocky" & "Natasha" on "Bullwinkle", Cindy Lou Who, Tweety's Granny, among others). Maureen would have been pre-school age at the time of this ad.

I had a Chatty Cathy and hooked her up with my Howdy Doody doll. Now this seems wrong since they look like brother and sister -- the facial features and both have freckles. Mister Potato Head of Toy Story fame is a Jew -- the only Hymie Disney character. Pass it on.

Chatty Cathy came on the market in 1960, this commercial is from 1961 when she got extra outfits available separately. The interesting thing here is that in Mattel Catalogs, they did not officially release a brunette Chatty Cathy until 1962! There was some confusion as to what the brunette doll would say... different phrases than the blonde? Alas some phrases were altered, but they said the same things. It was not until 1963, that all dolls said 18 things instead of the previous 11.

I took one apart,when I was young.It had a small record with all of the sayings on it. Everytime you pulled the spring it Recoil Wound a clockwork spring to make it play. The needle would land on various tracks, each time it was pulled.
