  • What are you using for a roller? I am working on making something like this but have a rubber roller.

  • @11111111jws

A rubber roller should be OK.... The roller shown in this video is a piece of a welding tip from a MIG welder and a short piece of nylon tubing that fits snugly on the welding tip. The most important thing is that the roller spins freely and that it protects the insulation on the wire. I use a piece of wire as an "axle" that keeps the welding tip located inside the arm.

  • @hydro4f3a This was hard a chinese arithmatic. I couldn't get it started round and found using #30 wire was near imposible to do. But I made one. (sort-of) thanks for the feedback.

  • HI,

I have a couple of other videos on my pancake coil winder with slight modifications as I learn how to improve the winder. Try building the simple form first.

The video on this page is the 4 RPM motorized winder and using a thin doublestick tape and the first attempt at a linear tracking arm.

Then I made it into a direct drive unit to get the speed up to 25 RPM, but found I needed to improve the arm again. I added a movement from a microscope stage and that really helped.

  • hey can u send me the design for this i really really need to know how to make a flat pancake coil... if u could sterr me in the direction as find out how to make a motorized winder please let me know

  • That is jus excellent work! I was just looking for ideas on howto do flat coils but this is it! Fishing line is quite cheap to add there, good idea that too!

  • Just Super!!!

  • That's being resourceful. Excellent set up.

  • i found its generally help-full to have spacing in between turns spiral coils have allot of capacitance and like smalls paces because it shorts out then you get higher losses nice job on the winder though ill try it myself but with fishing line layed beside each turn

  • Hi Proto9k,

Good idea on the fishing line. just need to make sure it is very close to the same diameter of the wire you are winding. That should work very well.

  • Nice work :]

  • Hi crob,

I think I have visited your channel before - all about the spark... well I am planning some experiments to learn more about resonance. I saw a neat experiment by tinselkoala using pancake coils, and wanted to try that with low voltage and audio frequencies. Will have to read up on the directional transmitter.

  • i dont think there is anthing on directional antennas to read i want to invent it, and im thinking that pulsing a large pancake style coil would send a sharper signal than just a antenna stuck upin the air. you should give it a go.... could youmake a flat transformer?

wonder if you could get ferite dust and apoxy as like a core, nice work anyway. thanks for the response.

  • man arent freshly wound coils beautiful, great job.

what do you plan to do with this pancake style coil.

can it be uses as a directional transmitter?

    have youheard of adirectional transmitter?

im getting started in wireless energy, and would lke to know a way of directing the HF,HV

  • shoot thts super crob, take some time to dig up old tels files that might help.
