Thanks to this movie that I first seen when I was ten on VHS, everyone I dislike since has been a 'Jive-Ass-Muther-Fucker'...12 years training for jungle warfare and ended up in a fucking desert...
This is the only song that captures the hurt I still feel - want to cry, every time I hear it. I get lost in the tune over and over again. No one understands, I never really came back. I returned to be confronted by protesters, everyone seemed to hate the military. I often think I shouldn't have come back - wish I hadn't. I tried to go to Afghanistan, but they wouldn't take me - hoping I could come back from that one.
I first heard the song when this movie was on HBO in the 1970's. I have since become a US Marine and still to this day this song is haunting and represents to me Vietnam and the vets that served.
Got the Movie off Amazon, wow what a rush, all the years since I seen it, the real prequal to full metal Jacket, Lee Ermy made both movies what they are.
This would have to be one of the most inspirational and meaningful songs ever written, does anybody have the correct tab??? I would be so happy to get them. RIP diggers.
I love this movie.. as kurdt and david said.. i never found anyone else who has seen it..im not promoting stagevu.. just stating where i found it.. i love this movie and that song..
I love this film and honestly when he sang this song in the movie I got goosebumps. I will say that the whole soccer theme was a bit silly, but nonetheless this movie is in my top ten war movies.
This song brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it...thank you for finding it and posting it...I can not find it anywhere and the DVD is even harder to find. Very melancholy tone that digs into your heart.
....good song, fits well to this movie :). Considering the nature and what the movie tryes to present, it is bit amazing how little it has gained audiences outside USA. I found this movie on used VHS in old book store many moons ago.
Best Vietnam movie I've seen when dealing with the individual characters in a situation. Had this on "Beta Max" when I was in the Army back in '81 or '82. VCR's were new and copying mass tapes was the norm. Gave it up when I sold the machine in like '85 or 86 when beta was losing the tape format war. Rented it this week from Netflix and saw it yesterday. Man this was a great movie. Never got the recognition it deserved. Though Full Metal Jacket was good, In my opinion, this was better.
Thanks for resurrecting this song. The Boys in Company C was underrated back in the 70's. I loved that movie. The boot camp part was pretty realistic and the characters are not easily forgotten over the years.
yeah i wrote the text down like 25 years ago when i saw it on pay-tv. didn't really have any hope to find title/author tonight. just because i'm trying to file all my old music cassette titles i thought of this song again... thx!
Thanks for posting this. I loved this song but could never find the movie. I read that it was released on DVD in 2008. I will get a copy this week. Definitely an underrated movie.
anyone who tell me the chords of this beautiful song...i want to play it on my guitar but i need some help, i got a little problem: i can't understand the tuning of the song :(
Put capo on 3rd fret...starts in A Minor....then G The F then E7 back to A Minor. Hard to explain may be I can record it for you so you learn it by ear.
The only way to get this song is either by recording it from the film or finding someone else who did. It is a remarkably good song and made an immediate impression on me.
I also think this is one of the more underrated films about Vietnam. Almost no one I meet has ever seen it.
This is a great song but the opening scene for The Exterminator is another "made for a movie song" which is amazing. The name of the song is Heal It sung by Roger Bowling. Very hard to find.
@tonji67 ,yeah...This is definitely the best Vietnam song ever. The melancholy is in the melody and in the text. But that is what that war was about. It wasnt a nice period..
One of the best Vietnam Era movies that you will ever watch... very emotional....and heck of a soundtrack...

Why do I remember a line from this song where he sings "Betsy Anne, tell me once again, you'll be waiting when it's over"?
Am I confused?
davidgeorge11 2 years ago 2
No you arent. At one point in the movie, Craig Wasson, the actor who wrote this sings part of the song and the Betsy Anne line is in it.
