You make it look fun. I learned to play it watching you. it isn't that hard but very cool lick. How do these guitar gods come up with these great guitar licks?????
I'm flying across the Tasman Sea from New Zealand to see the boys in Melbourne in October. I'm a bit sick in that I'm hoping they get it down like Kenyon. Thanks mate!
@kdenn71 I meant like a step-by-step tutorial...I can't follow it, if it's being played too fast. If ever, I need to learn what notes to play, etc.? In this video, you're covering the whole song (w/c you're absolutely good at!) Do you have the tabs? I really would want to learn Armageddon It. :)
Man what I really dig about you, is you are the only one aside from myself, that I have seen play the Armageddon It solo correctly. All the tab books try to get you to do that open e string instead of the e note on the g string in the ninth fret, and that makes a big difference in the tonal sound. Outstanding brotha, Great job, Good tone too! Look foward to more videos from you!
HEY Kdenn, I've been following this thread for a couple of months now. What is the verdict on the guitar study? As I said before I like the Les Paul but what all have you determined? Maybe try a Scorpions tune for more comparison too.
@vader8011 Hey Vader thanks for the comment. I typically do not supply a verdict on any of these studies, instead leaving it up to the audience. As far as what I have determined, I may start a blog in order to get into that. Since I did Hysteria I have been thinking of focusing on some other type of music for a while. We'll see what that is... :-)
I love that your gettin into it here! most covers on youtube are usually just a guy standin there playin. boring, this is something i wanted to watch!! Good job!! Keep rockin!!
I've listened to this song about 20 times and cannot believe my ears...please tell me this is your most favorite DL song to play...just love the riffs (Steve) wrote. Please keep it coming...thanks again...
I've listened to this about a dozen times each. On the Les Paul it seems like everything flows very nice. On the strat it sounds like you have to force the notes a bit. It just doesn't seem to flow as nice as the LP. Also is the action on the strat not as smooth as the LP? I'll keep checking back for the VH. :-)
@vader8011 Good point on the differences. However I had a lot more practice on the Les Paul than on the Strat. As far as the VH cover... I'll keep looking for one that I could pay respect to. :-p
@kdenn71 Kenyon, really lovin' the work on the Lep covers! Keep them comin'! That LP Custom is 1-2 steps away from a Steve Clark one - all you need is a Kahler and another pup! Of course not suggesting that you should butcher the beauty! It's just I know Gibbo used to trem quite a few of the models in the 80's, including a '78 (well technically 81's and '83) LPCs and pretty much most of their line of guitars!
@kdenn71 Oh, ditto, man. LOL Yeah, I do some of the same stuff, and I found it especially glad that you were willing to chorus your tone like Steve and Phil did, where as some of the covers I've seen skip it.
@kdenn71 IDK. I'm not yet comfortable performing in front of the camera, nor do I feel prepared to deal with the inevitable trolls. LOL But I'll let you know when I do. \m/
Dude this guy must have alot of really nice gear. To start just the Gibby LP Custom. But look in the backround. The real high ceilings, and large doors. Being a Painter this is just the dumb shit I come across. But this guy has got money, and doesnt just own nice gear cause he can, he owns it and can actually play.
@coltong400 Not yet , kahlers from the 80's are getting rare , my pickups are slighty different too , mine has covers on them , i'll try to pick up a kahler though i think i'll get it from an old HM strat
@cliffthelightning Yeah i know what you mean. Those are the only good ones too, that can stay in tune. I want to get a les paul custom and mod it to steve's specs with a kahler and all. I bet it sounds good!!
@coltong400 Bro that one was a beast for me. I looped it at like 45% speed until I got it then just sped it up until I could play at regular speed. I could appreciate Steve not playing the studio version live after learning it. I think Vivian should play it live though cause if I could then he could easily. Good luck!!
@kdenn71 At 0:17 it should actuall go with with your A and D string at the second fret instead of D at second, G at fourth and B at fifth. I've noticed thats how phil's always played it.
@coltong400 I toyed around with several different fingering on that part and I ended up playing what I thought sounded closest. I am striking the strings you mentioned as well as the ones you say are incorrect because I wanted to get as full a sound as I could out of that one chord thus the redundant strings. There is always a way to get a closer sound though. :-)
I was going to write on your previous version that your solo was fine because even Steve doesn't play the album version live. You did awesome here.
This is my favorite Phil outro too and you actually played it. Nice. Your videos are good and not just because of the playing but also for all the parts you try to cover.
