heavy d - queen majesty, he did it a lil justice for a former hip hop slash r&b artist who crossed over.....jus love the old reggae sessions raw and uncut......
@AckeeEater... yes you're absolutely right, it's Pat Kelly on his own, but most don't realise that when this tune orginally came out it was Mr Kelly fronting the Techniques... so that's why I put techniques in the title.
@theurbanmusicologist ... you believe wrong, Mr Kelly who took over from Slim Smith was the lead singer when Duke Reid brought "Queen Majesty". I know that Menz also did a stint at lead vocalist but it's Kelly fronting the original with the Techniques....
@RootsDaughter41926 Hope you didn't take my comment as a criticism..it wasn't meant to be but according to Pat Kelly it was Junior Menz who sung lead on the original.
@theurbanmusicologist ... no no, of course not... the recording released by Treasure Isle (Duke) has never been contested that it's not Mr Kelly, but you know what all of these singers moved around so much joining all the rocksteady groups it wouldn't be surprising if what you said it true anyway.
PAT KELLY COOL, BUT AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED; DENNIS BROWN MASH UP DIS VERSION!!! HIM OWN IT FI HIMSELF, SLY AND ROBBIE JUICE UP DI RIDDIM TRACK AND D. BROWN HIT A HOME RUN WID HIM MASSIVE VOCAL DELIVERY! PAT KELLY WAS THE MINSTREL SINGING TO THE QUEEN, BUT D. BROWN SOUNDS LIKE A KING TO MY HEARS; THE KING TOOK CHARGE OF THAT BIG BIG CHUNE........
@RootsDaughter41926 im feelin this is origonal style but the jays version holds notes better and is a bit more rounded! not that i dont appreciate real, rough early cuts that is.. any version is this song is a smash with me!
Yes me a learn sista..I always relate this too D Brown cos I love his versions..he did a couple at diferent times..BUT never knew Pat kelly was the original..Ive heard it once or twice but spin D Browns all the time lol...Gwaan 10 * il rate again later fe de upload...

That's not the 1968 original (i.e., 'original' in terms of the Techniques).

@bobbitt187 ... true... sometimes a song outshines the singer(s) no matter who they may be....

@bobbitt187 Love Pat Kelly's voice. And he's a fantastic interpretor of Mayfield (see Solful Love) but version by The Techniques slays me each time.
