Brendan Kelly said that none of the guys in the band actually enjoyed ska and I just find it so ironic that they made what is probably one of the best ska punk bands ever.
Agreed. Whenever I get a new CD, I listen to it over and over again till I get bored of it, I never got bored of Slapstick though, my all time favorite band.
actually, you can buy the CD online...Asian Man Records put out one of their CD's...unfortunatley they don't have THIS song...because its on their EP Crooked, which is really hard to find...and i believe only on cassette/vinyl...but a good place to buy a Slapstick album for around 8 bucks is to just go onto Asian Man Records and buy it from there. Emphasis on BUY...the bands will appreciate you more for it.
This song is on the CD. So is every other song on the Crooked EP (Not Tonight, Broken Down, My Only Friend) they were just re-recorded. The only Slapstick songs I know of that didn't make it to their "Discography" CD are Brother Man, Yellow Plaid, I Hate Girls, Guy Smiley, and The Man.
Well put. I Hate Girls is one of their most popular songs...its surprising that it didn't make their "Discography". Is there a 7" of Crooked? I've only seen it in cassette form. More to the basis of hard to find Asian Man punk/ska, does anyone know where I can find the split with Blue Meanies and MU330 on vinyl? Or is that way off topic?
Yeah I have Crooked on 7" and I have Superhero EP. I don't have the split with Tommyrot, but I want it really bad. I have the songs from that split on my computer though (Yellow Plaid and Brother Man). They sound like they were recorded inside a garbage can, but they're still awesome.
They are better than Less Than Jake. And Fuck Reel Big Fish. But I really love LTJ's old shit. Slapstick is definitely the best though. With The Skolars/Telegraph in second. Yo! Can anyone play crooked on guitar? Cuz Ive got the intro but i cant figure out the ska chords. Ive been playing A and D bar chords, but it doesnt sound quite right...
My favorite slapstick song. 3 best bands ever: Slapstick, Operation Ivy, Crimpshrine. Check out Tricky Dick if you like slapstick. They arent ska or anything, just a punk band. But they used to play shows and hang out with the guys in slapstick because they were both from Elgin.
Here it is past midnight, and I'm going to work in 7 hours and have been doing the same for almost 10 years now. When did I grow up and lose all of this energy! This band was my Operation Ivy when I was in college.
This band pretty much singlehandedly got me into punk. This chick I knew had the discography and i was like what is this? I put it in and was blown away.
This band is amazing sad how not that many people know about them especially todays kids where all they know about is Less than jake and streetlight and to make it even worse im from chicago
So apparently the Larry Arms might cover a Slapstick song or two on their upcoming tour, I'm sure it will be their more punk songs though, still freakin awesome.
i just saw them on halloween, and they didn't play any slapstick songs. someone screamed "slaaaaapstiiiiiiick" and brendan drunkenly replied, "huh? chapstick? you need some chapstick?" that was as close as it got. :(
Ah that sucks man I saw them Oct. 16th in NYC and they played broken down without horns and 15 mins by the broadways I thought they were doing that at every show.
I was at this show. It was at Georgetown University in Washington DC with Against All Authority and Meal Ticket. My friend with Too Hep records recorded this. Great times.
Zatransis is right, it'll never be the same again. Every second of that shit was pure life, and there was unity, 100% pure not-from-concentrate love on the floor, every time, all the time. There was nothing like it. This video brings it all back.
Once again im so happy of You Tube and all the people that are posting so many bands that I love for so many years. Now the turn to Slapstick, one of the best ska punk bands that I saw live. Got to said that their first seven inch and the song "guy smiley" are one of the best songs that i heard in the ranking of ska punk!!
I had many videos of them seeing them well over 60 times at least but much of the video was very poor... not as good and the gear we have now...

how the fuck does a band get so famous off making one album so much in ska? haha

Kelly sounds like Vince Vaughn when he talks. This is badass. Search "FPB dik" for a punk rock cover of Folsom Prison Blues by Elvis Took Acid.

Why aren't there more live Slapstick videos on Youtube? They were the greatest ska band of all time next to Operation Ivy in my opinion.
