  • how on earth did he be able to leave his eyes open underwater?

  • @technomustard Lol have you ever been swimming ? "normal" water doesn't contain (painful) chlorine

  • He did say that the central locking was going crazy, perhaps the doors were locked when he tried to open them?

  • What about the sun screen on the roof? he should have tried to open that

  • @ramsayboo143 no youre not! Youre just The only one that didn't hear that they've said that its a diver!

  • whos in the back seat? Am I the only one noticing it?

  • @RamsayBoo143 a safty guy

  • yeah at 0:30

  • Hmm... I wouldn't get out if I James Bond's Lotus Esprit

  • Did anyone else hold their breath when he did too?

  • you can see the person in the back seat

  • Hammond always does all the hardest challenges. That would have been terrifying even thought it was simulated.

  • hang on a minute, theres someone in the back seat. an error caught on camera

  • I find you extremely outrageous saying that about those countries peppe or whatever your name is. Why say that and why on this video when this clearly doesn't relate to Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark.

  • @LOLxxxFIFIxxxLOL agree..........He, she or THAT says just because he has never been in these countries. Only that he was commenting on something like this, will say that it is he who is annoying.

  • @93Katrina Oh lord, it has nothing to do with traveling, Katrina. It is simply just so, that people IN Scandinavia and Finland lack so much culture and history that they have to watch overseas entertainment. LOOK at the video statistics, do you see views from France? Germany? Russia? Spain? Italy? Japan? Or China perhaps? The answer is NO, because they simply have their own original entertainment.

  • @Peppepoppldoppl All that proves is that Scandinavians like good TV-shows.

  • @003Rifal That's not the point. The point is that Scandinavians shall only view their OWN TV-shows, not those from the Anglo-Sphere.

  • @93Katrina Leave British entertainment to the Anglo sphere and watch your sodding entertainment.

  • @LOLxxxFIFIxxxLOL "Show video statistics"; WHOOPS, dark green Scandinavia which can only mean they sit there in their socialist shit countries watching British entertainment even on the Internet. So, YES, this video has everything to do with all those countries when they all choose to delve their noses everywhere.

  • @Peppepoppldoppl Scandinavia socialist? Please tell me you're an American.

  • @teniootti What are you then?

    Democratic socialism is socialism.

    Also, Finland is not Scandinavian.

  • Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark are all shitty countries and all that live in them are annoying.

  • James bond wouldnt have this problem...

  • if it would have been a real situation adrenaline would kick in and you would get that burst of strength.

  • @Frostylete `That's unfortunately not always the case.

  • What you wanna do in a situation like this is to open as many windows you can as fast as possible.

The pressure will equalize faster, but if you dont wanna wait for it to equalize you can just swim out the windows! ;)

  • 1stNightingale@ yes but my moms car has a latch on the head rest so when it goes up it locks

  • How about not electric windows (power windows)?! You know.? roliing up and down.

  • Very amazing. THERE IS A BETTER METHOD.

When you hit the water, grab the head rests on the front seats (some have them in the back) then use the pointy ends to smash hard against the window quickly because you don't have that much time, but you want to make sure you are hitting it pretty straight. The pressure per-square-inch with strong metal and a large grip area of the head rest allows for a very strong hit and smashing of the window. Then you can swim out or wait til the car is flooded.

  • i dont think he set it to wumbo

  • the car got a opend roof so wy the door??

  • in the back of the car you see some people.... strange

  • Comment removed

  • And what about kids in the back?

  • Thats a Top Gear top tip. Get out as fast as possible!

  • so hab was geiles entdeckt haha

  • good advice, thanks topgear (living near a lake)

  • 1:03 I was holding the breath and in the minute 1:24 the fucking video have stoped and started to load

  • If i sank in a bugatti Veyron tho, i would've stayed in the car cause i probably would have borrowed it and i probably couldn't pay it back

  • Adam from Mythbuster did it better XD

  • Is it just me or does anyone else take the breaths with him?

  • @StreamingKnowledge thers some one in the back! with him! see for yourself at 0:30

  • @StreamingKnowledge i did and I coulda stayed way longer then him :P

  • Lol, there is a person in the back seat for safety while trying to hide from the camera

  • wow get out as fast as possible who would have thought

  • it is really weird how badly i want to see Richard Hammond in a wet t-shirt competition

  • @youngupsessor13 lol ^^ yeah he's a cool guy but the appeal is his cuteness not machoism

  • Comment removed

  • Thought the door did open when the Mythbusters tried this.

Still, youll have the best chance of getting out of your car under water, when you use an emergency hammer to smash the windows.

  • @ValAktaion as long as one doesn't have the god awful aftermarket window tint put on the windows of the car. Then you'd be bloody screwed

  • ehh the window dident open cus he did alredy drop it in and did so calld destroy the panel bye floding it oderwise it wold work cus it can take like 2 seconds befor it brak

  • or you could carry a hammer in your vehicle, and smash the windows.

  • @WestPennHunter Have you tried smashing a car window under water?

  • @WestPennHunter you do that then

  • OMG he is brave. O.o

  • I think he died

  • If that was me, the car would be filling up with my own piss.

  • Mythbusters already did this yes?

  • @KarlJoelsen yes they did and they had let the water fill up to the doors and the were able to open it. Hammond is a good presenter but he is really weak

  • @TheBaje2011 Also i think that the bubbles from the safety diver in the car didn't help much.

  • where is the first part?

  • just carry hummer in the car

  • twits, if the windows are electric do you think they're going to work? manual rollers will work

  • That was terrifying just to watch.

  • Comment removed

  • I would probably be claustrophobic.:(

  • I Woult Have Demanded A Pay Raise Just For That ...

  • In soviet russia , Door opens you!

  • Holy shit that must have been scary

  • Soooo... why not just open the door as soon as you enter the water?

  • @lupischuckle isnt that what hes saying you should do?

  • opening windows asap...?

    or breaking them?

  • Or buy a lifehammer?

  • Thmbs up is your were like WTF!!! when you noticed the random guy lying down across the backseat of the car

  • @GuitarsGoingSolo AKA the safety diver.

  • Comment removed

  • @GuitarsGoingSolo I bet the real idea was to drown that man :P

  • @GuitarsGoingSolo And at 2:29 it sead it had a diver in the backseat

  • Use a lifehammer to cut your seatbelt and then smash the window so you can get out

  • Scuba diver at 3:28 is amateur, diver's should never place their mask's on the forehead like this, and one who has done a basic open water will tell you this.

  • @Savannahsens3 Well thats really only a problem in open water where you could lose your mask to the surf or something like that. Its hardly a problem in a pool :)

  • @Savannahsens3 Well thats really only a problem in open water where you could lose your mask to the surf or something like that. Its hardly a problem in a pool :) My real problem is that hammond dosnt exhale on his way up in the first test that shit kills people

  • That. Was. Terrifying.

  • im almost fainted holding my breath

  • WE'RE SINKING!!!, DON'T WORRY! WAIT UNTIL WE REACH THE BOTTOM AND THEN WE GET OUT.

  • 21 people are opel fans

  • I;m not a fat fuck and yes you can shatter a tinow if you have a screwdriver or any metal implement then get out through the window

  • who's in the back at 0:29 lol

  • @G4Y4SS a diver :D

  • @GTAcrazyfan12 lol good measure for safety. hamsters cant swim in water

  • @G4Y4SS haha xD

  • shatter the side window and get out there unless you're a fat fuck

  • @MaddDogg81 well u must be a fat fuck cuz u cant shatter glass no matter how hard u try in water dumb shit

  • @thepkr1000

check mythbusters, you can actually break the window if you have some kind of metal implement to do it with. Also, electrical windows can actually work underwater if you are lucky ;-)

  • That'why you shatter the window

  • This car comes with a free diver! Where can I buy it ?!?!?

  • my poooor little hamster! what they've done to you???

  • There's a person in the backseats....

  • there's a dude sleepin in da back...

  • Best thing is to keep a glass breaker in your glovebox. Costs a couple dollars, guaranteed to break your window to nothing. You can even get ones for your keychain.

  • Richard is so hott and so mine

  • Swedish show called "Yippee Ki-Yay MF" did this in the sea during fall/winter, rather then in a pool as here, with the aid of fire fighters. Sadly I couldn't find any video of it (only the whole episode on the channel which hosted the show, Swedish Tv6), definitely worth seeing though if you enjoyed Hammond's stunt.

  • lol never drive into a lake

  • MONSTER IN BACK SEAT HOLY FUCK

  • if you cant open the door fast enough use your legs to break the window or better yet the windscreen so that you can swim out

  • @shriramvenu the windscreen is made from extremely tough glass, better off breaking side windows. With something sharp

  • @shriramvenu Try checking out YouTube vids to see how hard it is to break a car window. Thats why they make glassbreakers.

  • Aren't you meant to break the window so the pressure equalizes faster?

  • no

  • I carry a window breaker on both sides of the car and always keep my sunroof open if I know I'm near water. I hope I never have to use them :)

  • cool dats awsome

  • 0:33 who is on rear seats??

  • @ziolopalacz1996 Saftey DUDe with AIR

  • This was good, but the Mythbusters covered it my more thoroughly.

  • i just got an add whid bruno mars

    he is daam shitt

  • That is why if you live near a lot of water near roads you should buy a window breaker thing.

  • sure the window couldn't open ... the car was under water before ... if it was a real car sinking the electrics will still be working

  • @FunnyBus3rd- I'm 90% sure that the electrics won't work underwater because if it did work then my Mum & Dad would've been alive today.. .

  • @Mozumder1000 i'm sorry for your lost, but that's just my 2 cents

  • @FunnyBus3rd - No offence but I'm pretty much sure that the electrics wouldn't work underwater because if it did work then my Mum & Dad would've been alive today.. !

  • need a limited slip diff, to balance out the car.

  • why couldn't he just kick out that windshield ?

  • Mythbusters did try it when the car sank completely, but i think Adam got out faster than Hammond

haha! XD i held my breath from 1:00 to 2:40! HAHA!

  • He opened the wrong window

  • Why didn't the stig do this

  • @cowboys32296

He can breathe underwater anyway. It wouldn't be a challenge.

  • @cowboys32296 beacuse he normaly wears a helmet and he would have to take it off to get the air and THAT would ruin his character in the show ;(

  • @cowboys32296 He's afraid of water since the HMS Invinceble incident :p

  • @cowboys32296 because we already lost him once off an aircraft carrier, accidently losing him at the bottom of an indoor pool would just be depressing lol :)

  • @cowboys32296 That'd be pointless - the Stig has gills. ;D

  • @B0SSNINE Some say he actually lives in a fish tank. Some say he has flippers for feet. all we know is- he's called the stig!

  • @cowboys32296 stig does not breath so it would be a bit of a cheat to us viewers !

  • @cowboys32296 He can breathe under water

  • @cowboys32296

Being surrounded by water confuses the Stig. Makes him believe he forgot to close the window while driving trough a heavy rain storm. So what he'd do is just try to close the window. But those are already closed and he doesn't get it cause he's confused. Now if the Stig CAN drown he'd die because of that. And I don't think those guyd want to risk the Stig.

  • @EliteGhost001 silly person! The Stig cant die!

  • @cowboys32296 Some say he can breath underwater

  • @cowboys32296 some say he cannot swim. only drive a cars.

anyway, very valuable information carries that vid.

  • @cowboys32296 Because the stig is a robot, water is not good for computers

  • @cowboys32296 Some say he can't swim.

  • @cowboys32296 cos he should get hes helmet wet and that would make him rage

  • Didn't the mythbusters tried this too?

  • @str8out probably

  • @str8out yes

  • i love how many times Hamster has died on this show

  • Why do they just keep torturing the boys?

  • Why he didn't just broke the window, and get out

  • @zeyeerboost it is reinforced by water

  • @zeyeerboost

if you break the window or open it the water will flood in hitting you with several tons of presure that will not let you move at all, until the car is flooded, it is similar to scenario 1

  • @mazdaplz the problem is that even when it fully flooded, the pressure wont equalize that instance, wich is a matter of life and death... so i think when the water started to flood into the cabin, the window should be opened a tiny bit, just to equalize the pressure faster... the problem is, electric windows,,, bloody electric windows... you had to open it at the right timing before the electrical wiring worns out...

  • lol he was lucky that he made to tthe water with an opel

  • I was actually panicking!

  • that was bloody scary!!

    thumbs up if you agree!

  • @samdgamer he properly wont understand

  • that was bloody scary!!

  • Get out as fast as you can, or always carry a sledgehammer in your car.

  • what ep is this from

  • If you opened the windows, wouldn't the pressure equalise quicker? Obviously wouldn't work if they were electric though...

  • break window

  • @Marclo40

Think for one second about what you just said.

  • @swedoj2

It would equalize the pressure faster, and it would create an easy escape opening

  • @Marclo40

Yeah, but the only few seconds you're still capable breaking that window, is in the same few seconds that you can 'jump' out.

When the door is still above water.

  • @swedoj2

if your car is mostly underwater but there is still airspace in the cabin, even just weakening the structural integrity of the glass will make it more likely to break under the pressure

there are probably even devices made specifically break a car window in an emergency situation

  • @Marclo40

    That's true.

But i think it's not so nice to get a window smashed in your face due pressure.

We can speculate over and over, but without a proper test it's just speculating.

Thing's almost always go different then we think.

  • they did this on mythbusters they found breaking the window to be easier than opening the door

opening the door of course is still a much better solution

  • Note to self: Bring diving gear when driving near a lake.
