Think for a second and it should become clear why gamestop does what it does. Gamestop is a game retail GIANT, a corporate company. What do all corporate companies strive for? Yup. The allmighty dollar. You of all people should know that res and subs account for a small percentage of gamestop sales so the better your percentages are the more money your store is bringing in. Bad numbers = Less Money = Bad performance. They preach on "excellent customer service" but we all know better...
I sometimes loath going to GS just for this very reason, if I need to reserve something, I'll let you know but otherwise quit acting like car salesman pushing a sell. Its so obvious the employees are forced to do this, but just to let you know GS, it makes this customer want to avoid your store all together. The employees are there to sell games, gaming accessories, and give their professional opinion as needed, not to make customers fell uncomfortable at every purchase.
They brought that back. They stopped firing people for performance because rollover wasn't based on their bonuses on raises. Now it is again and you can get fired or performance. It's actually waaay worse now and they're a lot harder on you then before they stopped.
well buddy i was the cause of the reason for the no more termination on subs and reserves. i was working at gamestop at the time and challenged corp because they were trying to get me to sign a paper of termination so i asked them to prove to us that no matter what area your at all stores should do the same performance so BAM not only did CORP did terrible sales but they made them selfs look like fools i mean i can get into details but there's not enough room to tell you but thats the reason.
Thanks. As for less 5 dollars, I would just let them know how it works and if they wanted it, perhaps next time they would get it. I wasn't one for pushing subs or resos, but I would tell them the truth and let them make the decision. At first it was very enjoyable, but after management changed, things went down hill. Customers stopped coming and things became difficult.
Thanks for your comment. I hope to see more of them in the future.
I don't think my last comment got posted, but mainly huge companies like this can afford to bend/abuse their rules same thing happened to me at BofA. They threatened we better upsell chking accts and cred cards even tho we are a completely non related dept (collections) and started firing, now that I quit it's no longer req. Realistically, you cannot fire someone unless they really screwed up, i.e. insuboordination, etc. It's sad but it's the way the large corp retail world works, dear. :(
Thank you for your comment. It means a lot to me to hear you say that. Even though companies are like this, perhaps in the future they will stop this silliness.
I hope you are now working at a better company that respects you. Take Care.
Also, I think it's rude how Gamestop employees are selling you a brand new game and push you to buy the used game. I know this is b/c they make more money off used, but to someone who doesn't know, it's rude because it's almost like accusing the cust. of not having enough money for new, or it's like 'what am I not good enough to buy something new?' I will never shop there again, I'm tired of the lousy teenage half assed cust service.
ive been with the company for a yr and i grew to hate it now its reserves, subs, prp's,and gpg's it tough the company makes no sence mcdonalds was better managed then gamestop everything hour bassed suks never having a steady pay never knowing what days u have off and u sacrafice alot just to work there idk wat to do
3. If you are truly not capable of being nice to a customer and at the same time sell them a res or sub that TRULY benefits them, then I think your only chance at success is a fast food restaurant where you can take an order and punch some keys. And I truly hope fast food employees are not evaluated on whether or not they can convince a customer to donate 1$ to charity because if they are your screwed.
Good point. I've been on both sides of gamestop. I loved working for gamestop in the beginning, but to see what happened to everyone else later on, it doesn't seem right. A huge majority of them to be gone for just that one reason; all within 3 months and then change the rules so Reso & Subs don't count; that's not right. I hope things are different where you are. I respect your comments, just try to see it from my point of view as well.
I left Gamestop to return to fast food and I have never been so happy. I am SURROUNDED by coworkers that are interesting, all with their own backstories, who don't judge, who I care about, who look out for each other. And I also feel like I've accomplished something at the end of every shift, unlike Gamestop where I came home restless.
2. If they don't want to reserve then they don't want to. If you just say that alone with every transaction you are almost guaranteed to get a decent amount of reserves. GI subs almost sell themselves. Xbox 360 and PS3 used games range from 20$-50$ on average, with the 10% discount card that a customer receives for subscribing to GI the sub will easily pay itself off in a years time and half of the time the sub will almost pay for itself in just 1 or 2 purchases.
True, that's exactly what I did. All you do is ask, explain all the benefits and if they say no, there's nothing you can but continue with the transaction. If you get 4 or 5 out of 35 transactions for the whole day, you'll get yelled at or perhaps written up. Resos and subs aren't really the problem, it's having them DEMAND it from you. There's constant stress about getting them and if you can't, you're gone. Seems like they fired everyone who cares and hired people who don't, but can get R&S's.
1. You act like it is SO DIFFICULT to get res and sub and also have good customer service. It really isn't. I'm going to be totally honest here. I work at GameStop and I am LAZY!! But the job is easy, put on a big fake smile when you greet the customers, always pay attention to them, and answer their questions as best you can. Then when its time to ring them up, ask if there are any games coming out they would like to put 5$ down on to guarantee them a copy the day the game releases.
Everything you explained is what I did. Managers tend to push more than everyone else and they drive customers away. Plus customers hear the same speech over and over again and get tired of it. That's what they tell me, they'll even avoid going there because of it. Also, different gamestops are treated better than others pending on who the DM is. You may be working at a better one.
It's not about rehiring all the people who were fired, but to make people aware of what took place. Unfortunately my friend was fired with a large amount of other people to follow; it was enough of a thing that a Nintendo rep came to me and ask what was going on.
I don't want history to repeat it self. Some gamestops are still the same, others are different and pressure free. So it just depends which on you work at. Thank you for your comment.
Seriously why do you keep posting on here. my sister posted a responce to non popular video and has alost as many views in 5 days. No one wants to hear you speak and it sounds like you are about to cry the entire time... sad just sad.
The reason I kept posting about this topic is because many people through out California were being fired for something ridiculous, at that time it was a high stress job, it wasn't right and I think people should know what was going on.
I'm not sure if you work, but if you/your friend got fired for something like that and then there were mass firing all for the same reason, I would think you would use your voice to show everyone what was taking place. Show some respect for what I'm trying to do
That was the policy at the time. That's perfect ground for termination, as the store manager didn't know that was going to change at the time. Gamestop tends to change their policies over and over again because they realize it doesn't work. Subs and Res's are now just a nice thing, but not important. If you want to look good for promotion, get alot, otherwise it don't bloomin' matter.
Thanks for the comment, it's very much appreciated. I wish more people would read what you have to say. A lot of people from gamestop are saying that the policy that I'm referring to, never took place; like I'm making it up. Which gamestop do you work at? If you don't mind me asking. Take Care.
OMG you are really dumb!! they were trying a new thing it didn't work so they changed back. and its really not that hard to get subs or reserves so please just shut up.
Please, refrain from name calling, it's irrelevant on here. It's not about how difficult it was to get subs or resos, but the idea behind it. From what I've figured out, each district is different, some are doing shady things while others are doing things correctly, the one I was working for was bad.
Okay. The idea of name calling is to lower one's confidence while temporarily pretending to feel more superior over someone else. Hence, rather than stating an actual reason as to why you disagree with the video with a valid point and being respected for it, you'd rather take a lower approach that works in most bully scenarios.
As for the second grade teacher approach, you do know that teachers have at least a Bachelors degree to a Masters. Ever wondered why an educated person talks like that?
You realize that those who cant do teach? Also whats with all the wiki online dictionary definitions, you seem to giving me. If you cant sell, then don't work at a retail store.
Go bck to university, you dont waste your time at a bad paying retail job.
It's not so much that I can't sell, I could sell fine, trying to manipulating customers to change their mind is something else. Firing a lot of people all over California for this one thing seems a bit drastic, that's what these blogs are about.
Sorry for the wiki definitions. That's how I talk at times, especially when people do name calling. It gets tiring trying to open people eyes to what's going on and all I'm getting are close minded people; I don't consider you close minded.
Just for the record, I graduated and I have an BA and I was working for Gamestop during college and using it to pay back my loan. It wasn't always a bad paying retail job, but it turned out that way in the end.
If it's one thing I've learned, its not to stay quiet when something bad happens, but to get attention and show people what's going on. That's what these blogs are all about. A company this big shouldn't get away with something like this, if everyone stays quiet, they can do anything.
maybe it was just a temporary trial thing to see if they made more money or maybe they REALLY needed people to res. games or w/e idk maybe they had too many games and needed to egt rid of them.
Perhaps it could have been a temporary thing. Since I made these videos, I've had some pretty good ideas on why they were doing it, but I can't prove it and that's why I haven't really made a blog about Gamestop lately. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate it.
Well, it depends on where you apply. When I first started out it was great, later on things started to go bad. Just make sure that you stay true to your co workers and to the customer; especially the customer.
-Richard
P.S. If you have any further questions feel free to ask.
subs and reserves are still important but not the way it once was. They got rid of my old mgr who was originally a EB mgr but they did the whole #s thing and got rid of him because of that but then shortly after when we had a new mgr its like they didnt care about subs or reserves anymore and we were just shocked!
That's pretty interesting, back when I made this video, Resos and Subs weren't important according to the district manager. I'm assuming each DM and manager is different. It is shocking to see big differences between people. I hope this manager is more suitable.
Yeah, that is a bit funny. I can see why Subs are important, but Resos is an alternate way for them to earn money. I'm guessing customers stopped wanting to reserve there and they decided to just focus on Subs. This is just my thought though. What do you think could be the reason?
Dude , get a life. It's just a JOB !! , go work at McDonald or Carl's Jr. and get fired there for not asking a customer if they would like Cheese on their burger. F-ing R Tard
I know it's just a job, but it's different when a mass amount of people are fired for doing a great job all over California and other parts of the country. Persuading the customer should show how much you're dedication is to the company.
It's difficult to see it from my point of view and I hope you never have to go through something like this.
Hi I was a manager for Game Stop for about 2 and half yrs. I said was I got fired for my reservations and subs. Then I find out it dosen't count anymore what is that shit? my DM came in one morning before I got canned and told me you know your not right for this job, I'm older and he winked! He said I should be looking for another job, but I stayed and made them fire me. Sorry had to vent I feel your pain with Game Stop and what goes around comes around!
I'm sorry that happened to you. What store did you work at if you don't mind me asking. I don't mind hearing your vent, I find it gives me strength to make more videos in the near future. "What goes around, comes around", I like that.
ive seen all your vids and this is the best, if your like me, youve seen gamestop digging their own grave, the same thing happend with baseball cards, they were worth so much everyone wanted them, but those in charge of the priceing and availabilty ruined it for everyone
Thanks. They really are digging their own graves. Although, I've found out that not all gamestops are bad, just certain people in charge of it are causing the problems for everyone. Good example.
when i do ill give you the link, or send you the v/log--- im afraid of having my account deleted tho, very touchy youtube is, is saw the "the truth about gamestop" vid but that guys account was taken down!!! (or the vid was deleted) your feedback is greatful feedback on the whole thing and want to start a resistance group, or go on "gamestop strike" customers and employees alike
Thanks, I appreciate that. I saw "The truth about gamestop" too. Although, I highly doubt YouTube would do something like that. I would be the first to know seeing how many negative videos I did about it.
We don't work for the company, so they can't stop us from sharing our thoughts on YouTube, if they did, that would add more fuel to the fire. Let me know if you start a resistance group, that would be great.
Gamestop is a publically trade company. They need to make money for their shareholders and gain market share like thousands of other companies, that's how the world turns.....might as well get use to it.
It's not so much me that has to get use to it, but the customers. If they don't like how they're being treated, Gamestop won't survive. Customers come first, but if you don't treat the employees with respect, they're just dooming their self from the inside out. I respect what you have to say and your point of view. Thank you for your comment.
I don't think I need to point out how stupid this video is. Listen at game stop you make minimum wage! You looked on the verge of tears, well im sorry you lost your dream job, but man up. Its just a job, and life is filled with disappointments. I work at game stop, and I get reservations, and subs, and sell like a beast. So work hard and good things happen. slack off like you, and end up making gay pointless vids on youtube.... homo
Interesting. You assume that I didn't work hard at all, Neither sell subs or Resos. You are very wrong. We all did our best and seeing that mistreatment happen from this company compels me to talk about it and let people see what's going on.
although clearly you didnt work hard enough because you got fired, laied off, what ever. Clearly your boss didnt think you were a good asset to him. Managers get reviewed by how good their numbers are, and if you arnt helping then hes gona find some one who can.
Companies change policies, goals and objectives all the time in the attempt to increase productivity, efficiency and profit. They will set a policy and guidelines, wait a few months to see it's results, if they feel it did not work how they expected, they will alter it or change it completely. Then repeat, wait a few months, check results, repeat. And even if they feel they got it right, they may still change it to see if they can make it better.
Thank you for the information. I do really appreciate what you're telling me =) You're probably the only one who's explained to me why the company does these things. It's a very refreshing change. Take Care.
Irony is that I got sucked into your blogs only because I was trying to find a video clip of the moron manager who decided to make his own rules at a gamestop in Austin.
Also you'll have to raed these comments in reverse order seeing as that I can only post 500 characters at a time.
Actually, when i first view the comments, they show me them in the correct order. I'm not sure if you had the moron manager from Austin or if you were just looking for a clip about the manager in Austin. If you knew his name maybe I could help you on your search.
I just want to let you know that I respect what you have to say and I hope you respect me. You have good points and I'm sure I might have a few good points too. Thank you for your comments.
So its not unheard of to have different rules come and go. I watched all of your videos and they all have the same reoccuring theme, sandy crotch syndrome. The scariest part is that it all sounds similar to the textbook stylings of a ex-lover turned stalker. I know from woking these kind of expendable jobs that they don't have to have a good reason to fire you, thats why when you sign up they have that clause in effect. If you can't read, you shouldn't have been hired to begin with.
True it's not unheard of for the rules to change, but to fire hundreds of people within a 3-4 month span and then change the rules directly after that doesn't seem right; even though they legally can do it. The reason it sounds textbook based is because of these firings. I know you probably had a lot of friends at gamestop just like I did, now imagine them all getting fired for one reason; regardless of their position or how long they were there for.
From that point of view, it seems like the company itself is doing these mass firings, but from what I've heard from other people is that these mass firings aren't happening everywhere, but in many locations.
Wow, all i heard was "waa waa waa, i lost my job cause i suck when one policy was in place, and I'm bitter cause they changed that policy." Yeah, like it was some big conspiracy to screw you and everyone affected by the old rules at gamestop. With this kind of complaint you can pretty much replace gamestop with any other obligatory terminate-at-will company name and still get the same results. Companies change and evolve, which also bring about changes in policies.
I know we have our disagreements on this subject, but please try to have some empathy. From what I'm finding out, it may not be the company, but a majority of DM's in the districts throughout the company that aren't doing things properly. I was talking with someone who was Pro gamestop and that's what I stumbled on to.
you still get cand if you cant pull subs or res you dont't know what your talking about and you know that gamestop always makes examples of poeple when they put a new rule in effect and the onley whay for the transaction not to effect you is to scan their edge card
From what I noticed and heard from employees who were there for a long period of time, they were canned because of their performance in subs and reso's. I know you get canned for many things, but to terminate a lot of people for that reason, then decide after that to change it so performance doesn't matter, doesn't seem right.
New rules came into play when Gamestop merged with EB, that's the only time I'm aware of the rules changing. Please let me know if there have been new rules added. Which gamestop do you work for, if you don't mind me asking?
A store manager asked me once, doesn't it seem weird that you work for a company that's only incentive is that you don't get fired, that you don't work for any sort of reward, except to keep your own job. I worked for gamestop since about 2003 and have been an asm for most of that time. How i survived that long is beyond me but they really had to dig deep to get me though :)
I heard about this about 2 weeks before it happened, and it's rediculous, i used to work at a gs in the philadelphia area, i, and most of the management staff we're fired for mistakes on perpetuals, no first and final, just flat out terminated about a day before you posted this. The problem is gamestop see's (and it's pretty sad) that all of it's employee's are desposible, and the pretty much look for reason to get rid of people it almost seems like its for the fun of it.
Disposable, yes that's the word I've been looking for. It is very ridiculous that they are doing these things. Perpetuals are just annoying, doing them as soon as you open the store. When I was pushed out of GameStop back in April, they started doing perpetuals in the night as well. It's pretty bad. Thanks for your comments, they're much appreciated.
hey whats up brother. i came across your video and you sure know a lot. i know now what happend to the managers. hope everything is well with you. take care buddy.
Hi, Thank you for posting a comment. I hope you are doing well too. Your P.S. threw me off a bit. You meant the definition of "bomb" by slang...as in talk bad about, correct?
Please know that it's not the employees who work at the game stores, but the Company itself. I'm sorry it took me a while to reply. Take Care.

I agree, it is mostly dependent upon who your SM and DM is.
Now how are you to sell a sub ($15) and a res ($5) to people who buy the games under $5?

As for the second grade teacher approach, you do know that teachers have at least a Bachelors degree to a Masters. Ever wondered why an educated person talks like that?
rammad27 4 years ago
You realize that those who cant do teach? Also whats with all the wiki online dictionary definitions, you seem to giving me. If you cant sell, then don't work at a retail store.
Go bck to university, you dont waste your time at a bad paying retail job.
Jagnarox 3 years ago

A company this big shouldn't get away with something like this, if everyone stays quiet, they can do anything.
rammad27 3 years ago
maybe it was just a temporary trial thing to see if they made more money or maybe they REALLY needed people to res. games or w/e idk maybe they had too many games and needed to egt rid of them.
motoxrider9 4 years ago
Perhaps it could have been a temporary thing. Since I made these videos, I've had some pretty good ideas on why they were doing it, but I can't prove it and that's why I haven't really made a blog about Gamestop lately. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate it.

yeah no problem, how did you like working there? because im thinking of getting a job there over the summer, if i can.
motoxrider9 4 years ago
Well, it depends on where you apply. When I first started out it was great, later on things started to go bad. Just make sure that you stay true to your co workers and to the customer; especially the customer.

P.S. If you have any further questions feel free to ask.

subs and reserves are still important but not the way it once was. They got rid of my old mgr who was originally a EB mgr but they did the whole #s thing and got rid of him because of that but then shortly after when we had a new mgr its like they didnt care about subs or reserves anymore and we were just shocked!
j3sas2 4 years ago
That's pretty interesting, back when I made this video, Resos and Subs weren't important according to the district manager. I'm assuming each DM and manager is different. It is shocking to see big differences between people. I hope this manager is more suitable.

Things change? Wow you bitch a lot. Get a new job and move on?
VvshawnvV 4 years ago
Things have shifted at Gamestop. Subscriptions are now important and reserves not so much. Funny huh?
~fin~
Juggla17 4 years ago
Yeah, that is a bit funny. I can see why Subs are important, but Resos is an alternate way for them to earn money. I'm guessing customers stopped wanting to reserve there and they decided to just focus on Subs. This is just my thought though. What do you think could be the reason?

Dude , get a life. It's just a JOB !! , go work at McDonald or Carl's Jr. and get fired there for not asking a customer if they would like Cheese on their burger. F-ing R Tard
Ramitdeep81 4 years ago
I know it's just a job, but it's different when a mass amount of people are fired for doing a great job all over California and other parts of the country. Persuading the customer should show how much you're dedication is to the company.
It's difficult to see it from my point of view and I hope you never have to go through something like this.

Clearly they arnt doing a good job, because they are getting FIRED. Any idea what that means, you human dictionary.
Jagnarox 3 years ago
Hi I was a manager for Game Stop for about 2 and half yrs. I said was I got fired for my reservations and subs. Then I find out it dosen't count anymore what is that shit? my DM came in one morning before I got canned and told me you know your not right for this job, I'm older and he winked! He said I should be looking for another job, but I stayed and made them fire me. Sorry had to vent I feel your pain with Game Stop and what goes around comes around!
babspol40 4 years ago
I'm sorry that happened to you. What store did you work at if you don't mind me asking. I don't mind hearing your vent, I find it gives me strength to make more videos in the near future. "What goes around, comes around", I like that.

ive seen all your vids and this is the best, if your like me, youve seen gamestop digging their own grave, the same thing happend with baseball cards, they were worth so much everyone wanted them, but those in charge of the priceing and availabilty ruined it for everyone
sephious159 4 years ago
Thanks. They really are digging their own graves. Although, I've found out that not all gamestops are bad, just certain people in charge of it are causing the problems for everyone. Good example.
Have you ever considered doing a gamestop blog?
-Richard
rammad27 4 years ago
when i do ill give you the link, or send you the v/log--- im afraid of having my account deleted tho, very touchy youtube is, is saw the "the truth about gamestop" vid but that guys account was taken down!!! (or the vid was deleted) your feedback is greatful feedback on the whole thing and want to start a resistance group, or go on "gamestop strike" customers and employees alike
sephious159 4 years ago
Thanks, I appreciate that. I saw "The truth about gamestop" too. Although, I highly doubt YouTube would do something like that. I would be the first to know seeing how many negative videos I did about it.
We don't work for the company, so they can't stop us from sharing our thoughts on YouTube, if they did, that would add more fuel to the fire. Let me know if you start a resistance group, that would be great.

Gamestop is a publically trade company. They need to make money for their shareholders and gain market share like thousands of other companies, that's how the world turns.....might as well get use to it.
adam9a9 4 years ago

So work hard and good things happen. slack off like you, and end up making gay pointless vids on youtube.... homo
Jagnarox 4 years ago
Interesting. You assume that I didn't work hard at all, Neither sell subs or Resos. You are very wrong. We all did our best and seeing that mistreatment happen from this company compels me to talk about it and let people see what's going on.
rammad27 4 years ago
although clearly you didnt work hard enough because you got fired, laied off, what ever. Clearly your boss didnt think you were a good asset to him. Managers get reviewed by how good their numbers are, and if you arnt helping then hes gona find some one who can.
Jagnarox 4 years ago
Companies change policies, goals and objectives all the time in the attempt to increase productivity, efficiency and profit. They will set a policy and guidelines, wait a few months to see it's results, if they feel it did not work how they expected, they will alter it or change it completely. Then repeat, wait a few months, check results, repeat. And even if they feel they got it right, they may still change it to see if they can make it better.
vmethod 4 years ago
Thank you for the information. I do really appreciate what you're telling me =) You're probably the only one who's explained to me why the company does these things. It's a very refreshing change. Take Care.

Irony is that I got sucked into your blogs only because I was trying to find a video clip of the moron manager who decided to make his own rules at a gamestop in Austin.
Also you'll have to raed these comments in reverse order seeing as that I can only post 500 characters at a time.
Chumble21 4 years ago
Actually, when i first view the comments, they show me them in the correct order. I'm not sure if you had the moron manager from Austin or if you were just looking for a clip about the manager in Austin. If you knew his name maybe I could help you on your search.

Chumble21 4 years ago
True it's not unheard of for the rules to change, but to fire hundreds of people within a 3-4 month span and then change the rules directly after that doesn't seem right; even though they legally can do it. The reason it sounds textbook based is because of these firings. I know you probably had a lot of friends at gamestop just like I did, now imagine them all getting fired for one reason; regardless of their position or how long they were there for.

you forgot to put your name at the end of this comment ^_^

Yeah, sometimes I figure the person knows who I am after a while of commenting to them. Sometimes I'll just get a little tired of it as well.
-RICHARD! lol
rammad27 4 years ago

Chumble21 4 years ago
I know we have our disagreements on this subject, but please try to have some empathy. From what I'm finding out, it may not be the company, but a majority of DM's in the districts throughout the company that aren't doing things properly. I was talking with someone who was Pro gamestop and that's what I stumbled on to.
rammad27 4 years ago
you still get cand if you cant pull subs or res you dont't know what your talking about and you know that gamestop always makes examples of poeple when they put a new rule in effect and the onley whay for the transaction not to effect you is to scan their edge card
gantz360 4 years ago

MPKeeling 4 years ago
I heard about this about 2 weeks before it happened, and it's rediculous, i used to work at a gs in the philadelphia area, i, and most of the management staff we're fired for mistakes on perpetuals, no first and final, just flat out terminated about a day before you posted this. The problem is gamestop see's (and it's pretty sad) that all of it's employee's are desposible, and the pretty much look for reason to get rid of people it almost seems like its for the fun of it.
MPKeeling 4 years ago
Disposable, yes that's the word I've been looking for. It is very ridiculous that they are doing these things. Perpetuals are just annoying, doing them as soon as you open the store. When I was pushed out of GameStop back in April, they started doing perpetuals in the night as well. It's pretty bad. Thanks for your comments, they're much appreciated.

Take Care.
