  • Women are prohibited of playing the didgeridoo at official ceremonies or performances , this is an outright violation of aboriginal "Dreaming Law", some tribes are lenient and allow playing on a social level with friends and family but some are not and consider this an attempt to mock and shame their culture = they might get very upset, nonetheless, if you are not in Australia, you're all good and she is a fantastic player *wink*

  • Blote voetjes :)

  • ...fantastic, except for the leaving of my other senses full of anticipation, yet not jealous, just wanting more to complex your story, something to make it as viral as it is , at the most primitive roots of simplicity , as it was when we once again live in a world that had vanquished trinkets as a side effect of her renewal cycles, as so to must any mother, once in moon or many

  • Awesome, but sorry to be a party pooper but isn't are women meant to player didgeridoos in Aboriginal culture?

  • @jwl665 Well, I am a western emancipated woman living in a sort of emancipated part of the world. And was blessed by an old custodian of the Yidaki (didgeridoo), and he taught me to, so maybe I am allowed?

  • Traditionally women aren't allowed to play the didgeridoo, but this girl plays it so well!!!

  • @verticalsmurf Thanx 4 your compliment!!

And to your other remark, I am a western emancipated woman living in a sort of emancipated part of the world. And was blessed by an old custodian of the Yidaki (didgeridoo), and he taught me to, so maybe I am allowed?

    Love

  • @liesundertrees - Of course you should play! I should have worded my comment better. I was trying to subtly point out that some traditions have no meaning now. If someone is good at something and enjoy doing it, they are ripping the world off if they don't do it.

  • @verticalsmurf Women are not allowed to play in ceremonies but are allowed to play at home.

  • @tc35drum - Thanks for the clarification, much appreciated.

  • @verticalsmurf Woman are allowed to play the didgeridoo unless they are of Aboriginal decent.. At least that is my understanding. Very well played here. I've been playing the didge myself for about 15yrs

  • woooooow that´s sg <;o)

  • @Gandalfat don't know what sg means but anyways, Love!!!

  • You know, I've been a percussionist for 15+ years and as soon as this started the drum implications were immediate in my head. I could hear it in my mind, and I replayed it and started tapping it out on the computer desk. I love when someone is so talented at what they do that it can spark inspiration. That's wonderful, and thank you Lies for sharing your gift, your talent, and your inspiration with the world.

  • @CommanderSpooky Thanx soooo much 4 your compliment

  • shes amazing

  • @richardachill thanx

  • ripping ... so damn good !

  • @fernmatic thank u

God , I could Eat this stuff for breakfast , lunch, and Dinner !

  • It's like beatboxing except more complex O_O

  • have y got like a retarded twitch with ur leg or something cause it realy getting on my nerves

  • AWESOME!!! I am crying!! WoW!! Love the different sounds!

  • This girl is awesome !!! What a sound !!!!

  • whats up with those retarded hand movements?

  • I want to learn. I bought a didgeridoo while I was in Australia I can only do a basic sound. I don't have a teacher but would like to learn how to make beats like this.

  • Awesomely insane!

  • How do you make that sound effect at the very beginning? Like 'Dobredob'

  • Love that rhythm. Excellent playing.

    VERY VERY GOOD

  • Wow That was *SUPER~AWESOME*!!!! :O)

  • Hi,

I saw you several years ago at Didge fest in Devon, Uk.

You were awesome then and you're awesome in this video.

I met you briefly, whilst talking to my friends Richard and Pete of "Astral Circus", but I don't spose you'd remember.

Anyway.. Thanks for that musical offering.

    Big Hugs

  • you're an inspiration :)

  • OMG you really blow me away

    your so awesome

  • What's all this rubbish about disrespect? No one complains when a nonindgenous person plays any other so called 'religious instrument". If it was not for Lies there would be many starving indigenous Australians who make a huge profit from selling didgeridoos. It also spreads the culture and plight of the indidgenous Australians. Keep it up Lies. You're obviously doing well as there would not be so many comments!!!! You're a brilliant didge player.

  • wow... are you giving lessons in vienna?

  • You're brilliant. Lies.

Thank you so much for showing your amazing ability. Haven't seen you at any festivals for a while - the last was in Devon, England two years ago. Anyway, hope you are still performing around the world.

    Keep rocking!!!!!!

  • THAT HAND HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN

  • This is brilliant!!! Nice job, starting to love such unappreciated instrument.

  • very impressive

  • she speaks! :D

  • BRAVISSIMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • Its good,

but if you were a true didgeridoo player you would respect the Aboriginal culture and NOT PLAY the didgeridoo (Yidaki) because in their culture women are not supposed to play, and there is actually reason for that other than sexism.

    Why don't you search it!!

    How disrespectful!!

  • @chayward16 : please, smart guy, impress us fully with your yidaki knowledge, and give us the actual reason, in stead of hinting at something you don't write.

  • @belgianbingo Well the TRUE aboringinies say that it stuffs up the reproductive system.

But I'm from Australia and over hear most ppl know that it is disrespectful to play because that is their tradition!!!

The Yidaki is a Sacred instrument commonly used in ceremonies by males.

It is Australian Aboriginal tradition and if ur a female aand play the Yidaki then you are disrespecting a ancient tradition.

I am not being sexist, I am simply pointing out that its disrespectful!!!

  • @chayward16 yeah i was just about to write sumfin like this. im sorry but it is disrespectful for a girl to play it. but u r good tho. but yeah

  • @kerrie1ella Thank you very much for agreeing with me, its good to know that some ppl know the culture, I'm not saying shes not good, its just disrespectful, btw she uses her voice a little too much but thats all good

  • @belgianbingo

    hes got a point!

there are many that think its disrespectful....all he said was that its commonly used in ceremonies by males. he didnt say that women shouldnt play didge, only that its disrespectful. we are aboriginal family, but some allow it but most will look down apon it.

  • Oh boy, this instrument rocks. I think it is good for playing in a gig or a wedding party. I'm gonna tear apart our long telescope and convert it like this didgeridoo. Hehehe. Cool!!

  • Fantastic ! :-D

  • My God, I've been trying to play my pvc, and i cant even get close to that

    Wicked Awesome Mate!!

  • she uses her voice too much. too much spitblowing

  • Now that's some serious talent very nice

  • cool lady

  • fett

  • yeahhh is good

  • it's like beatboxing...but with a different come-out sound...it's not bad

  • Another great song! Better is impossible!

    Regards

  • First time i see woman so greatful

  • Drum 'n Didge fest is there something like this in holland? I would love to see all those artist preform.

So make it what ever sounds good to u!

    Love,

    Lies

my name you should pronance as Lise if your from the states for instance

  • @GifmeSpace It is pronounced DId-Jer-Ree-Doo as it is spelt Didgeridoo

  • Can i just say.. I adore the didgeridoo. Im not Aboriginal but i am absolutely

fascinated by the culture, the original custodians of Australia. The aboriginal culture is so interconnected with nature. It is a truly beautiful culture.

  • Traditionally women are not supposed to play the didgeridoo, it was a men's instrument. Just over a year ago, Harper Collins had to make a a public apology for a book that encouraged women to try it. So however goodor bad her technique may be, this woman s insulting the culture that produced the instrument she is playing.

  • The things I hear are that it changes between communities, and that most believe that a woman should not play a man's didgeridoo. I think it has something to do with blowing the spirit of a person through the didge. I hear that in some communities you should only play your own, and in others only the storyteller is allowed to play it.

I like to think that everyone who playes my didgeridoos put their own energy into it, one that I may learn from.

  • Hi there Willie and Mark,

    Thanx 4 your comments.

I visited an old custodian in Arnhemland (where this instrument originates from) and he taught me to play and also blessed me.

I know it is not a common thing in their way that females play, but his wife and daughters are excellent players to. But would never perform, that's up to him and his son.

It is by no means illegal of any sort,

  • but some female's will look at u strangely, like many years ago here in Europe, when a woman would wear pants. It is part of the male things.

But I am glad we are emancipated here/now and I am allowed to do man's things, because I love playing this wonderful instrument!!!

    Love,

    Lies

  • @liesundertrees - Is that you playing in this video? I'm not trying to bag you, I know some Kouri groups allow women to play in private. I believe in respect - men have had to learn to respect women more, westerners are learning to respect indigenous cultures more. I think that women need to respect men as well, and maybe that means maybe accepting that sometimes there are cultural boundaries that should not be overstepped, just because they are there. cheers

  • Hi,

I understand what you are saying, so if I am in Oz and an aboriginal person comes up to me and tells me it's not played by women in his clan, I will not play, so I would respect his culture. But in my land I believe the rules of my country apply, no?

I would never walk with my shoes on in a house I was asked to remove my shoes. But in my house you can wear shoes, no problem.

    Love,

    Lies

  • @williepete Buddy i haven't heard and abridgeanl people give her hell back off and bite your tounge next time its a diffrent time you fuck tard get your facts straight GOT IT check your insults at the door got it
