Kind'a funny how nobody called the neighborhood Little Italy when it was Italian. I guess "Taylor Street" didn't have enough cachet for the yuppie New York wannbees from Iowa State.
Funny, when Italians lived there nobody called it "Little Italy", the neighborhood was called Taylor Street. I've lived in Chicago 60 years and never heard anyone but a yuppie real estate seller call it "Little Italy".
Too bad there's not that many italians living there anymore...it's mainly yuppie residents....just like Greek Town...now 18th St. and most of the NOrth Side if not all.
Now there's starting to head out to Bridgeport.. Sad but true
There are still a lot of Italian living in Chicago, like Grand and Harlem area. That seems to be what is happening to all the Little Italys, like Malberry Street in NYC is being swallowed up by Chinatown.
The new Greektown in Chicago is Lawrence and Rockwell.
This is the greatest neighborhood in the WORLD. I grew up on Taylor and Laflin see the ole hood grow to it's greatness. Everyone that grew up here loves it.
man, it aint like it used ta be. all my uncles and relatives who were around bak in tha day tell me it used ta be almost all Italian. now all ya see is blacks, middle easterners, and indians. i aint racist, but please, stay in your neighborhoods and we'll stay in ours.
im black and live in bronzeville by the lakefront and there are a lot of whites and asians are moving in our neck of the woods and u dont c us complaining about it
when ever people of color want to move into a white neigboorhood the whites complain but when whites want to move into a black or latino area no one can complain about it
In Chicago, at least three Latino neighborhoods have been taken over by Polish immigrants. It is strange how that is happening. The Little Italy at Grand and Noble went from Italian, to Latino, to yuppie.
@ChicagoJoe57 , Yea Polish people don't stop coming and not only them but Russians and Germans, its hard to tell the difference between the languages but i can't defenetly tell who is Russian and who's just a some eastern Europian ,Russians have that "ugh" sound when they talk.
Chicago's little Italy makes NYC's Little Italy look like a slum. CHICAGO BABY!!!
