  • I am a new vegan and have been bombarded with like a zillion ways to make seitan lol but i think I will definitely be going with this one! I like that you got SO MUCH out of it, it will make it easy to freeze for later use! Thanks for posting this!

  • Awesome video! Very helpful! I'm totally gonna make my first-ever batch of seitan this week. Thanks Eleni, Chef Shirle', and Megafaun!

  • Thank you for the recipe. I have been using this recipe for a couple of years now. Also the video is fun.

  • I buy my gluten powder from a mill online, i buy it ten kilos at a time and get it delivered, works out mega cheap if you can find a mill in your country that will deliver to you.

  • funny, i liked the seitan food

  • I have been using this recipe for a year now- I REFUSE to use ANY other recipe because I am convinced this is THE BEST SEITAN I HAVE EVER EATEN!!!!!!

    *Bows to the seitan goddes*

I love watching the video haha y'all are funnee :D

  • This really helps since I'm trying to get off meat. thank you for the video.

  • Great vid!

  • gluten wheat flour you used right?

im using just wheat flour right now so i had to wash it ! :)

  • Definitely use vital wheat gluten flour -- easy to find at most natural foods stores and natural sections of typical grocery stores.

    Eleni

  • Well i would use , but they dont sell them here in Estonia :(

And i tried with wheat flour but i think i did something wrong..

    Ill try soon again. :)

  • oh! My only other thought is that maybe it can be shipped from another place such as the UK? (not 'close' to you but closer!)

If anyone else has any ideas about this, feel free to post!

    ---Eleni

  • Yeah i could get it from Finland which is 2 hour ride with a ferry :)

But ill get it when im visiting Finland.. probably in Spring :)

  • Hail Seitan!

  • Arggggh!!! That song is stuck in my head now! :O

Great video. Thanks for the upload. :)

  • this video is hilarious i love it! im gonna make my first attempt at cooking seitan tomorrow woo!

  • Any idea what the recipe was for those seitan "chicken" wings?

  • Does anyone know if it should boil rapidly, just simmer, or somewhere inbetween? And if this particular recipe is a good one? There are so many different ones, but this seems easier than many (which is good) =)

  • hey dreamofmichelangelo,

From all reports I receive, this is an awesome recipe...that's why we decided to tape it. Definitely easy too!

Regarding the water, bring it to a boil then simmer it for the remainder. Hope this helps.

  • Such a fun video to watch, I actually viewed it twice. Great info, I made a batch of seitan a few years back and it's time to give it another go. Now I need some easy recipes.

  • Thanks for the video! very entertaining. As soon as I can get my hands on some wheat gluten i'll be making some. I tried 4 different stores with no luck. I'm going to try a large organic food store that's a little bit further away. I'll let you know how it turns out! Thanks again!

  • awesome, and the song's great too.

  • Added to faves! We are just starting our healthy eating journey:) Some mentioned they eat seitan and I had never heard of it. So actually seeing I can make it myself is inspiring to me. Not to mention some humor thrown in is wonderful to boot..lol. Will you guys be doing some cooking w/recipe videos for the seitan? Would love to see them if you decided to do them..any suggestions for me as a beginner? TY guys for this awesome vid:)

  • hi Airox:

    Sources, please?

Unless you have Celiac disease, almost everyone consumes gluten.

Oh, and please keep your physical observations of the kind folks who volunteered to make this video -- misplaced, misspelled, and inaccurate -- to yourself.

    Eleni

  • I read the book, life without bread, written by Dr. Lutz. Very interesting book. I don`t have celiac desease, nor does any of my family members have it. All of them switched to a diet with moderate carbohydrate and healthy fat intake and strictly avoiding anything made out of grains. Everybody lost weight and health increased.

  • Airox180 go gluten free for a few months

and if you feel better stick with it. If you do not feel any better eat all the gluten you want.

  • Just try glutenfree for half a year and you`ll see the difference. Didn`t want to insult anyone in the vid about their figure. My fat and bloated belly disappeared within a few weeks after switching to a gluten free diet. Sorry if my spelling is not 100 correct, but I`m swiss and speak a few other languages other than english.

  • well, if you remove gluten from the "seitan" thing they've made in the video, you in fact removed seitan from it (seitan = gluten = protein) and what is left is starch (carbohydrates) ..

  • well, now I noticed they're starting from gluten, not wheat. so.. OK :)

  • yeah, i agree. What you acheived was not because it was free of gluten, but because it was carb-free. Wheat products are very carb-heavy, usually, but Seitan gets its texture from being starch-free. (you wash and pound the starch out)

  • Seitan is about as unhealthy as bread and humans have lived off of it for thousands of years. It is defiantly a lot heather than any meat which contains dangerous bacteria carcinogens and cholesterol. People can take steps in right direction can't they? Or do you have to either eat McCdonald's or be a raw foodist? If you are just anti vegetarian then your are using ideology and not facts.

  • I`m not anti vegetarian but read so much about grains being very unhealthy for the human body.

  • Fruit bearing plants are probably the healthiest food on earth. I agree there are a lot of problems with grains. I do think that diseases related to eating meat are quite a bit more serious than the ones related to grains. Heart Disease is the number one killer in my country. Wheat gluten may be a step in the right direction for heavy meat eaters. I have to say enzyme rich raw foods are the best in my opinion. If you haven't read about the power of enzymes please check it out.

  • Yea porchlife hit the nail on the head it's only people with a wheat gluten allergy (celiac's disease) that can't consume gliadin which you are right is in wheat products. It causes the mucosa lining to become inflammed and the cilia in the intestines to be damaged, causing malnutrition. Bloating wouldn't cause a physical display such as that and men usually carry their weight in their abdomnens regardless of their diet! :) Becareful throwing out statements without any facts like that!

  • You don`t need to have celiac disease in order to have problems with grains. The book life without bread shows quite a few negative aspects about grains.

  • Meat isn`t as unhealthy as often stated. In fact, a german study showed, that meat intake had nothing to do with bad health. High sugar intake and eating lots of flower products, in general an overconsumption of low grade carbs, result in bad health, such as cardiovascular problems, cancer etc. I`ve been on a low carb diet for years now, getting most of my carbs through veggies, fruits and certain nuts, and my health is great. Eventhough I eat meat, my blood pressure decreased and is now at a

  • constant 115/75 and lower. I`m trying to switch to a low carb vegetarian diet in the future though, not because meat is unhealthy but because I like animals.

  • I`ve seen way too many success stories, when people were put on a gluten free diet and also switching to a low glycemic diet.

  • some people have allergy from sun or apples.. so the're unhealthy too ?

  • I have to say, you should never boil your seitan, only simmer it! You get a much better texture from it, and it doesn't 'puff up' too much.

  • Are Megafaun really really tall, or are you really really short? Anyway, thanks for the awesome savory seitan recipe!

  • Oh my gosh thank you so much for this! My seitan was always so soggy and now I think I've figured out what I was doing wrong! thanks!!

  • mnogo e glupaf 4ao
