I was at this show, too. I was wearing a long-sleeved dark-grey shirt and black Kangol cap (way before it became a rap staple). Dear lord, was it hot!
I was at this show. May 27, 1985 (Memorial Day) at an amphitheatre on the campus of Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. It was a benefit show called the NC African Relief Concert. I still have the ticket stubb which lists the limeup as REM, The Pressure Boys, Me and Dixon and others. The Pressure Boys did a couple of reunion shows in May and some old friends and myself were remembering this very show. Good times, great memeories!
Wasn't this the Connells first or a very, very early show? I remember this being an incredibly hot day and they were all in like corduroy??? I couldn't get over it
I don't know if it was a very early show. They would have had of have to be pretty well known to get on this gig. Hard to remember, long time ago. I had just returned to NC from Ohio after a 6 week recording school gig. I had some freinds who played in a band, we all hooked up, got drunk and high and had a great time. REM were rock stars in the south at the time, but still relatively unknown elsewhere.
I do remember the Connells all wearing their Broughton gym clothes. Perhaps Jefferson knew of the Connells or something I can't remember the story of how they got on the bill but I remember the anticipation around them.
Great song !...'If you're tired of one side the other serves you best'...Fables has become one of my favorite album from IRS period ; thanx for posting this show
Yeah I've never seen him use this guitar live, either, except here... I think I read somewhere he used an alternate tuning for this song for a while? Maybe that's why he's not using the standard Rick -- he kept this guitar in the alternate tuning?
@ZRN959 just google any tab, tune A string down to G, E and e to D and d. use barre chords instead of power chords like x77777 instead of x57775. If you don't succeed, PM me and I'll try to help you
hells yeah, thank you!!!!!!

Correct, my friend. It's open G tuning, so like Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones.
Also never seen him play this thinline tele except here. However he still uses the other TC, the black Custom one.
