The more complex the structure the more complex the wave pattern needed to make resonate effect. Perhaps Tesla had the steel structure in physical and electrical resonating peaks. I believe this is exactly what tesla has done.

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing!...this pair of clowns sure prove that proverb. They attach a motor "ASYMETRICALLY" to a steel beam, and like all conceited idiots, think it does not matter! Two motors attached either side, would be symetric, and would produce dramatically different results. Asymetricly induced oscialtions always induce parasitic vibrations.
well they got pretty close without even building the machine right... they can't really say the myth is busted by any means. with modern construction techniques, you would need a seperate resonator harmonic to each specific frequency required to cause a strong propagation. Also, an air spring is much more effective than a magnetic coil because air pressure is conpensatory, and would help to precisely match the frequency of resonance, which would even change over time as the machine ran.
No point in bandying about hysterical conspiracy theories that have no credible evidence. Especially ones which anyone with high-school physics can work out is absolutely impossible.
It all gets a bit like religious conviction at this point - some people shut down all critical faculties and only see what they're looking for to justify alarmingly irrational pet theories. From Atlantis to Zionist banks and 9/11:now, folks, is a good time to measure yourselves up for a straitjacket.
Exactly. Architects create buildings with extremely low idiofrequency to avoid a synchronization with an earthquake frequency. Tesla's theory and the device he made are absolutelly functional. I leave in Greece and all we do at the university is math,physics.... and TESLA. We have devoted 4 months from physics for just this theory. Are we all idiots that we study his theory? no.. mythbusters did a mistake this time! But of course, the serb must be wrong... right?
I love mythbusters and how they illustrate the science in their experiments, but honestly i have to admit that they occasionally do things that make no sense. like plane on a treadmill. They shouldn't have even had to test that at all. anyone that would actually believe that myth was true is a complete idiot and lacks any knowledge on how planes are powered and fly. There are other things that they have messed up but i just cant think of them right now....
These guy arnt scientists to start with, they are full of S**T! Special effect artist is the name used for these jokers. Tesla knew if he gave his inventions to the world at that point we would have no planet left.
The bridge they experimented on was built in circa 1927. The test only lasted for an hour and the result was impressive. Who knows what might have happened if left overnight?
1) Jackhammer impulse was too sharp. Like slapping a kid on a swing instead of measured push. Sharp impulse = Fourier component too low amplitude at resonant frequency. 2) Bridge was hit at one of its higher harmonics, not the fundamental. Viscoelastic damping varies by frequency. They needed the one with the lowest damping. Bridge was very long, frequency probably in the sub-Hz region. Think of soldiers marching, step step step ... that's around 1Hz for a smaller bridge. Nice try mythbusters.
Modes of vibration. You have to analyze the bridge's vibration spectrum. Then reproduce the same spectrum with not just one, but the necessary actuators to build resonance at the exact frequencies. The spectrum of the bridge is composed of several frequencies not just one. and a single actuator acts at only one frequency. And that frequency might hit the highest resonant peak but will otherwise be dispersed due to friction, which actually is non-resonant interaction
When you push someone in the swing, as they begin to gain speed if you wish to increase their amplitude you must re-adjust your pushing. If you keep pushing in the same fashion, the amplitude of the person in the swing will be equal. The solution is simple, get in tune with the resonance of the bridge and re-adjust as you progress.
i think its possible tesla had a device that would measure harmonic frequencies better than the methond used here. Also something to note if that bridge was a frame for a concrete structure wouldn't you think the vibrations would cause the concrete to crack, the weight of falling concrete hitting the ground could feel like an earthquake. another idea is that the frequency changes as intensity increases. which the didn't seem to account for
Actually I'm not sure the patent they were looking at the diagrams for was the correct device for what they were trying to build at the start. From the biographies I've seen he didn't actually patent the device involved, at least in the USA, according to the list of 111 on file patents (there are also dozens of 'missing patents' see the list on wikipedia as a starting point).
I can't believe they didn't believe this would work. They usually know what they're doing. Haven't they ever seen that other bridge flap around and fall? What was it ...the Tacoma Narrows Bridge or something. Do a search on youtube. I'm sure you'll find it.
@myvideos656 One thing ive learned is that when it comes to real down and dirty science, the mythbusters aint it. They do the showy and flashy things, but always miss out on the proper technical aspects. take that motor and attach 50 pound weights on both ends then see what happens ;)
@xxflinkxx Like all companies, the media is afraid of being sued. I'm sure when the Mythbusters went to their bosses with this idea they were told not to show anyone exactly how it's done. For obvious reasons. I think their overgrown 10 year old boy behavior is what makes the show so funny. The "see what happens" mentality. If they were too sure of the end result and too serious it would be kinda boring to watch. It's like watching Wile E. Coyote with his new ACME kit. LOL
the network wont let them prove the machine actually works lol, these guys are clueless that machine is not an exact replicate the patent is probably incomplete i don't think Tesla wanted this in the wrong hands. But its probably to late.
I think the most interesting part is how utterly Jaimes version failed, compared to the one grant gave them. And it wasn't because Jaime sucks at building things, it just required specific properties, that would have otherwise been missed.
Free inexhaustible energy is real! But there are very powerfull forces that want to supress the technology,Check this free energy magnet motor at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Be part of the revolution!
The amplitude is dependent on losses vs. supplied power, that is - the Q value of the oscillating circuit. Imagine a guitar made of asphalt and liquorice which would have an extremely low Q value.. A tuning fork has a very high Q value.
I agree! They proved that it works! All they had to do was turn up the intensity and they would of had greater results. If you watch the demo of the guy who shatters a glass, once the guy finds the frequency, he then turns up the decibals and the glass shatters. So since they found the frequency of the bridge all they had to do was turn up the decibals which they did not do. Tesla wins again!
This program (myth busters) is for the feeble minded. Tesla was from another time, believe it. The secret societies who rule this world know this to be true. That's why they are secret. What they can do today will blow you're mind away, really.
Most bridges are designed against the possibility of standing waves... That is the purpose of the engineers ring, they made those rings out of a bridge that fell down due to a resonant wave. They should have looked into that...
@pimpbenben USGS said they lasted 27 days. September 3 to 29, 1899 and included four or five world-shaking disturbances and hundreds of minor shocks. During four weeks there was almost constant palpitation of this part of the earth's crust. The shocks were most severe on September 3, 10, and 23, and were great on the 15th, 17th, 26th, and 29th. On the 10th there were over 50 small shocks and two world-shaking disturbances. The greatest faulting took place on September 10. "Machine Gun Staccato"
There are more than one frequency of resonance in structures, the one they tested divided by 1/2 , then that by 1/2 ... the lower frequencies might be the more damaging to this type of structure 4 Hz, 2 Hz, 1 Hz, .5 Hz or so. This guys don't really understand the experiments they try.
@monoarania10 This is true what you are saying. I remember and episode where they tried to duplicate batman's car's grappling hook to go around a corner. They didn't even consider the force of the impulse and were confused when their cables were breaking. I couldn't believe they didn't consider impulse once.
@MYTHBUSTERS .'.Trinity.'. Manhattan Project named after 1898 earthquake in Manhattan caused by Nikola Tesla. -Tesla made the first WMD. Earthquake No. 333 on September 3 at 3:03:27. TESLA MADE EARTHQUAKES. -Biblical Prophet
This myth is busted. Tesla suggested that a pocket sized "earthquake machine" can cause a destructive earthquake and when they built one (which isn't even pocket sized) it only caused a vibration. Would it work if it's a bigger size? Possibly. But the myth here is not if it it will work at a bigger size the myth that they are trying to bust is that a pocket sized machine can cause a destructive quake and it is not possible.
The myth is not busted. What they're not admitting is that ever since the Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse ( /watch?v=j-zczJXSxnw ) bridges have been engineered to have intentionally conflicting frequencies, to prevent another such occurrence. It's equivalent to shooting someone with a bullet proof vest to 'bust' that guns kill.
MythBusters are infamous for disinformation - they're not scientists, they're special effects producers, shaping the effect shown in order to control what people believe.
@tobiasaurusrex That is what Tesla means when he says all repeated actions must be divisible by 3. June 15, 1896 was a day divisible by 3. in a month divisible by 3. in a year divisible by 3. THEN IT GOT GOOD... ARCHIMEDES LEVER WAS FLIPPED LIKE A SWITCH 3:03:27 p.m. epicenter time September 3, 1899. ON A SECOND DIVISIBLE BY 3, IN A MINUTE DIVISIBLE BY 3, IN HOUR DIVISIBLE BY 3, ON A DAY DIVISIBLE BY 3, IN MONTH DIVISIBLE BY 3, IN A YEAR DIVISIBLE BY 3... DO THE MATH.. THEN IT GETS EVEN BETTER..
@insightllc Then Tunguska... a day divisible by 3, in a month divisible by 3, in a year divisible by 3... JUNE 30, 1908. i win BITCHES. TESLA MADE EARTHQUAKES. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
@tobiasaurusrex well i saw the video....and it says that it collapsed in 1940....so i get your point that all bridges after that were built to have conflicting frequencies...but in this mythbuster video jamie says that the bridge they use was built in 1927(3:27)....so help me out here mate....plus you seem to imply that their intentions are malign....i dont think so...i mean they quite regularly say they might be wrong.....i dont knw much about tesla...but iam gettin into it.....cheers...
@natuankur The original span of the Carquinez bridge has spans of 335 meters, and then had drop-in cantilever spans placed that are 132 meters, out of frequency with the main spans. The multiple lengths of the cantilevered pieces, as well, are irregular lengths.
The New York incident is an historical occurence. What will they do next, bust the myth that Charles Lindbergh crossed the atlantic?
@tobiasaurusrex well i though you said all bridges AFTER the collapse were built properly..anyways i think they put it under plausible...after they felt the oscillation at long distance...what i would like to address is your hostility towards them mate..i mean c'mon they try their best not to make mistakes....and when they do they try to correct them..and plus its fun and informative....i mean i didnt know about this tesla machine till now...and they promote critical thinking..chill out mate:)
@natuankur I don't know if anyone's responded to you yet but there are many different bridge designs. Some are more susceptible to this kind of destruction. I do know that they build oil rigs out in the ocean bearing these problems in mind because sometimes the pulse or frequency of the waves can wipe out the rigs. It's the same idea behind a radio station signal getting to your radio. Not by electricity. That's for the amplifier. Hope that's a little helpful. Cool, huh?
@natuankur I wish I could send you links to videos on this topic, but I don't think YouTube allows it. Just put in a search for "breaking glass and frequency" (quotes not needed.) There's dozens of videos where you can watch wine glasses breaking in slow motion to the right frequency. The glass seems to turn into water. It oscillates just like a surge in the ocean and then shatters. Lots of fun. Enjoy!
@DRTMaverick I was thinking that the drop in trusses were added as a retro-fit in the '50s when they realized it was bearing a greater load than expected, and they added the second bridge. The drop in spans still create harmonic dissonance. Most of the early bridges were designed for beauty, so they employed symmetry and regularity. Whether the drop-in spans were original or not, this bridge is (was) still out of frequency with itself.
@tobiasaurusrex Except they specifically said in this video that the bridge they tested was built around 1927, and Galloping Gertie wasn't opened until July 1, 1940. It then collapsed on Nov. 7 of the same year. Thus, your argument is invalid.
I'm not disagreeing with you on your generalization; Mythbusters is NOT very scientific. But in this case, you were wrong.
@tobiasaurusrex According to Jaimie at 3:27, this bridge was built in 1927. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge was built in 1940, and collapsed in November of 1940. So, how does your comment apply to this bridge? Even if bridges after 1940 were built with "intentionally conflicting frequencies," this bridge, built 13 years before 1940, would not have been so constructed. Also, a search on the phrase "intentionally conflicting frequencies" brings up nothing relating to bridge building, but your comment.
@tobiasaurusrex considering the rest of TV these days, they're close enough to scientists for me. im glad this program is successful, gives me hope for the future.
@tobiasaurusrex Sadly a lot of people don't know this. I've seen several shows that make me facepalm at their inaccuracy or sheer stupidity that scewed results or outright fucks them up. Such as 'Knocking your socks off'. Buster's feet don't move or bend like a person's would preventing the socks from fully coming off.
@tobiasaurusrex Did they even say it was busted in the full episode? The video was cut off at the end.
With what they were saying at the end of the video, about how 6lbs of motor is rocking a huge bridge hundreds of feet away (causing Jamie to express that he was concerned), I would think they´d at least have called this one Plausible. I mean that last test basically confirmed it works to an extent, even if not to the extremes Tesla described, but they only had several days to tweak it.
@tobiasaurusrex Tesla's Room #3327 because Earthquake Machine No. 3 was the Knob Hill Apparatus in Colorado Springs which caused the 27 day long 1899 Alaskan Earthquakes commencing on September 3, 1899 at 3h03m27s or 3:03:27 pm epicenter time. That was a year divisible by 3 times 3, a month divisible by 3 times 3, a day divisible by 3, in an hour divisible by 3, a minute divisible by 3, a second divisible by 3 times 3 times 3... Milne Shide No. 333 and lasted 3 times 3 times 3 days
@tobiasaurusrex mythbuster's tesla earthquake was censored , the myth has ben interpreted wrong, the device works , they just had to use more of those devices.
Remember people, this isn't about whether or not the basic principle is correct, it's about if this specific instance of its use (that is to say a pocket sized, man transportable earthquake inducer) is factual. In reality this device is something like 12 pounds and 2 foot long, not exactly pocket sized, and is also much more precise then anything that could be made in tesla's day. Would the principle work on a larger scale? Probably, but that's not what this is about.
I think a finding of Undetermined or Plausible would be more appropriate. They only established that *they* were unable to do it, not that it was impossible to do.
Having achieved better results each time they readdresed earlier failings, they just gave up on the rethink. Calling it busted at that point was just lazy.
Much of Tesla's "fringe" science is proving to be true. The body of work done by this man is unbelievable yet most of society knows very little about him! Over 700 patents. Inventions - remote control, ac motor, turbines, radio, x-ray, radar, resonence oscollator, free energy, partical beam, flouresent light, etc, etc,.
Tesla was a tireless inventor/scientist. Edison did his best to supress him.
You people are way too eager to accept that this device works the way Tesla says it does, All it does is make flexible objects flex more and more until they either break or wont flex anymore. Think about it, what else would make a flexible bridge vibrate? A hammer probably could to some degree. It would never cause an earthquake. And could not bring down a structure unless it was an enormous device. Tesla says it could take down the Brooklyn bridge in an hour and that it also fit in his pocket.
I think it's hilarious that they called that "Busted" when it very obviously worked. A 5lb actuator made it feel like a truck was driving by, a heavier weight would do some damage, not only to that bridge, but it would probably shake the other two bridges too!
I know it works. I studied Physics and I broke glass using resonance. The fundamental frequency, once found, can be used to cause huge vibrations. This is not a myth. It's a fact! I don't know what went wrong with the Mythbusters there.
(continued) Most steel and concrete bridges are designed to have resonant frequencies *well* outside any energy input (eg: cars, the wind etc). I say most, because the tacoma narrows bridge did have a resonant mode which was close to a natural oscillation in the wind and it subsequently destroyed itself soon after opening. A Russian bridge recently did the same thing, but I don't know the name of it. Both bridges have lots of cool footage online.
It's a shame they can't be more scientific on this show. They didn't even mention resonant system Q factors. Basically any real vibrating system will have loss. The Q (quality) factor is a way to measure the ratio between the loss and the input energy. The resonant amplitude for a given input power will be higher for a lower loss system (higher Q). For a steel structure any deflection will cause the steel to heat up, make noise etc, causing energy to be taken away from oscillation.
I think one of the reasons it does not work is the restoring force of the vibration.
When the bridge is shifted to one side it needs to swing back to the other side, but the further it goes the more distance it has to travel through the air and air resistance. Thus the restoring net force changes slightly therefore changing the frequency slightly.
the larger the object => the greater the air-resistance => the more tuning of the applied frequency.
Tbh even though they start out ignoring Tesla own advice... They do prove a lot of the idea of it is actually viable; they just lack Tesla insight and know how. The dude really did practically pull shit out of the air in a time where no one could even dream of the stuff he did. Also its only been recent that the truth of Tesla has been coming forward; his stolen patents, work, knowledge.. etc... His heart and mind was in the right place to...To bad our governments and schools compartmentalize
I'm trying to build one of these, but I'm using a standard 1/4th DC motor. I'm wondering if attaching a wieght to it, like in a phone vibrator, but very big would still work. If anyone has any ideas I could really use some help.
I'm no expert in physics or anything but 1 thing bothers me. When mythbusters tested this oscillator on that steel bar, they fixed it vertically. When they fixed it to the bridge they put it horizontally. Question: would the bridge oscillate more if the device was fixed vertically same as on that steel bar? I mean this oscillator created horizontal oscillations (left - right) on the bridge. But what if they put the device vertically?
add more juice . increase resonance . that bridge will come down . r.i.p tesla im sorry we were such a disgrace and im sorry of our selfish hospitality towards you , and im sorry for our stealing your patents . Im sorry for being selfish greedy human beings after all you brought to man kind. Im sorry for mankind and how they treated you !
I already knew about magnetic resonance (such as in the Tesla Coil) and have heard of mechanical resonance. Truthfully, I NEVER believed a mechanical device could produce resonant waves... until now. Adam and Jamie have really outdone themselves with this one.
i dont think the scale model would work because there isn't enough mass in the micro cassette device's weight to convert to energy, it wouldn't have enough inertia.
For a bridge it needs to be heavier. Even without dampeners a 5 pound device is way too small. maybe 5 tons could get them somewhere. And letting the earth split is more than optimistic for a device of any size. Even with a device as heave as mount everest that would hardly work.
A 1000 lb actuator would take that bridge apart. Once you get it hitting it's peak resonant frequency and the bridge is swinging all over the place, switch the actuator to an odd order harmonic right at the peak of the resonant wave clipping the sine wave into a sawtooth and watch that bridge crumble!
It's like whipping a sheet up and down to make a wave roll from one end to the other then suddenly someone grabs the other end, whips it and causes a wave to crash into your wave.
the big test would be to gradually and very slowly reduce the frequency of the vibrations and increase the amplitude of the vibrations and generate a larger motion.
The secret agencies and authorities can never let such deadly but remarkable info to be leaked out... coz the results could be deadliets
Mythbusters are not sceintists just imagine if they can make such outstanding vibrations after a 1 day or 2 workout ... a team of real scientists under govt. umbrella can do something beyond your imagination
Its pretty insulting that they tried to make Tesla out to be quack by talking about all that back in time crap. For those that don't know anything about Tesla don't listen to this crap. Go do your own homework and you will be amazed by the many things that this one man did that helped develop even some of today's technology. He was discovering things back in the 1800s that people today still can't seem to figure out. He may have been a stereo typical Mad Scientist but quack he was not.
i can only agree the guy was far ahead of its time.
if he be alive in todays world oh my god he would poop himself see all those inventions that has come out of his discoveries that nobody took serious and laughed at.
people that call tesla quack or busted just don`t have the mind to comprehend his teachings. a 6 pound weight in resonance can bring any thing to fall it just depends on time and strengths of building material
Tesla MADE the following: Hydropower, Solarpower, Acoustic Levitation, Earthquake Machine, A Light Bulb that was so good that Edison stole it!, electromagnetic motors that we still use today, Wireless Electricity, ect... Tesla should of been respected way more.
@UvisionMedia Tesla made earthquakes. Tesla made tsunamis. Tesla made avalanches. Tesla made volcanic activity. Tesla made Tunguska. JP Morgan funded the weapon development because Tesla didn't tell him he suspected he was responsible for June 15, 1896 Japan. Morgan sent him to Colorado Springs to hit E.H. Harriman at Kodiak but Tesla was rained out 4th of July. TO NOT LOSE FACE IN FRONT OF THE WORLDS RICHEST MAN... HE NAILED EARTHQUAKE NO. 333 ON SEPTEMBER 3 AT 3:03 p.m. epicenter time in 1899
The more complex the structure the more complex the wave pattern needed to make resonate effect. Different materials different waves to make them all resonate, a simple material like steel would need one, while a bridge would need many to match all the materials (otherwise they can take energy away, absorb it, not emit it.

Tesla used a selftuning oscillator. Of you don't build a replicate you never get THE result.
woutert 1 year ago

LOL

Cool, huh?

@tobiasaurusrex The Tacoma bridge collapsed after this was made though. This was made in the 20's.

DRTMaverick 1 year ago

LynrdSkynrd69 1 year ago
@tobiasaurusrex According to Jaimie at 3:27, this bridge was built in 1927. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge was built in 1940, and collapsed in November of 1940. So, how does your comment apply to this bridge? Even if bridges after 1940 were built with "intentionally conflicting frequencies," this bridge, built 13 years before 1940, would not have been so constructed. Also, a search on the phrase "intentionally conflicting frequencies" brings up nothing relating to bridge building, but your comment.

With what they were saying at the end of the video, about how 6lbs of motor is rocking a huge bridge hundreds of feet away (causing Jamie to express that he was concerned), I would think they´d at least have called this one Plausible.

Inventions - remote control, ac motor, turbines, radio, x-ray, radar, resonence oscollator, free energy, partical beam, flouresent light, etc, etc,.
Tesla was a tireless inventor/scientist. Edison did his best to supress him.

they forget that the vibration is dampened by the internal resistance of the bridge so the resonance would max out at some point
until metal fatigue set in and cracks some beams which would change the frequency

Biogenesi5 1 year ago
It's a shame they can't be more scientific on this show. They didn't even mention resonant system Q factors. Basically any real vibrating system will have loss. The Q (quality) factor is a way to measure the ratio between the loss and the input energy. The resonant amplitude for a given input power will be higher for a lower loss system (higher Q). For a steel structure any deflection will cause the steel to heat up, make noise etc, causing energy to be taken away from oscillation.
Biogenesi5 1 year ago
I think one of the reasons it does not work is the restoring force of the vibration.
When the bridge is shifted to one side it needs to swing back to the other side, but the further it goes the more distance it has to travel through the air and air resistance. Thus the restoring net force changes slightly therefore changing the frequency slightly.
the larger the object => the greater the air-resistance => the more tuning of the applied frequency.
Thats why a wine glass broke and not a bridge
HevekReekel 1 year ago
you must oscillate the frequency to stay relative to the increasing vibration

A 1000 lb actuator would take that bridge apart. Once you get it hitting it's peak resonant frequency and the bridge is swinging all over the place, switch the actuator to an odd order harmonic right at the peak of the resonant wave clipping the sine wave into a sawtooth and watch that bridge crumble!
It's like whipping a sheet up and down to make a wave roll from one end to the other then suddenly someone grabs the other end, whips it and causes a wave to crash into your wave.
