@TheCoon2000 You are very intelligent - if you adjust your vocabulary - and debate - may be you can make a real difference. Why don't you enter into politics and undo the damage she and her Government did! Blaire, Brown and Cameron are all Thatcher's children. They are no better than her!

The language here indicates just how awful the woman was. She was eloquent and undoubtedly skilled, but she was a nightmare. I find it hard to like her at all. Her current ill health is sad. I would rather she was able to comprehend what she has done.

@MrPenfold84 I read that she went through some training sessions to lower her voice. It's really SAD that a female politician had to lower her voice to make all the other men take her seriously. No wonder Britian is in trouble today. All the other male politicians are acting like teenage girls. Thatcher, in a way, was probably the real man.......
@hensca My family were poor and after the 80s... they were far more rich.
So I beg to differ. I just think you are making this up as you obviously have some form of a grudge for those who actually work hard and excel in life.
I think it's also because my family don't sit in pubs with fags in their mouths, rather they prefer to invest their money in their newly formed businesses and give people jobs.
Sometimes you only realise the true value of something when it has gone. There MUST be another Margaret Thatcher out there somewhere. Come on girl - your country needs you
@steve998 Well I wouldn't mind running and enforcing her policies again, but politics is too elitist.
Some lady down my road is soo intelligent and she was trying to be a labour councillor and they rejected her as she has no qualifications... which is a bit of a joke considering labour are supposed to be pro-equality and anti-elitist.
Why should people like my mother who gets off her arse and works, have to pay a high sum of tax for something she never uses and when she did use the NHS they actually made her pay for the hietus hernia operation on private care which costed £7k.
It's a joke and should be abolished, it consumes public wealth and gives VERY LITTLE back not to mention the nurses wages are appalling and would be raised under private.
@ForeverComplaining Come experience the joke of a healthcare "system" here in the US - a place where medical bills can bankrupt you if you have a serious illness (even if you have insurance), where medical care is some of the most expensive in the world yet is a nightmare for many to deal with. Also read up on the scandal from a few years ago of US citizens going up to Canada and scamming the Canadian health care system to get care there.
@xexixk The NHS can as well as they charge you for plenty of operations and make you go private, as was the case with my mother who had to pay £7k.
The NHS only benefits the poor, not the middle people who have no choice but to use it due to high taxation. The NHS consumes our money and gives very little back. People also come from other countries to take advantage of our system, when its own tax paying people (my mum) are having to pay for private as they can't afford for her operation.
@ForeverComplaining You're one of the few Brits I've heard complain about it. The ones I know personally, who are middle and upper middle class people, don't. Perhaps it has some things that need to be worked out - no system is perfect - but don't ever consider or think that going to the US "system" is a good idea. Saying that other people come there and "take advantage" of the system, are they working? If they are working there then they are paying taxes.
@xexixk You have a very good point. I personally believe we need to either privatise it (which I don't really advocate because obviously it'll cause serious problems) or we need to throw a hell of a lot of money at it, as imo it's an insult to the tax payers and surprisingly enough I'm not really middle class, my mum is a cleaner but she does own the business, however her role is very much so manual.
@xexixk oh and yes, I have no problem with people paying tax using the NHS, they have EVERY right. I'm complaining about people who don't contribute to the system and I hate to sound like one of these right-wing nutcase racists, but it's true we have many. And I think it's unfair on the tax payers like my mum who pay tax for the NHS and then get turned down and have to pay for their own operations whilst others who give nothing (including British) get it all free.
@ForeverComplaining How would anyone qualify if they aren't living and working there legally? I'm not sure how it works there but if someone is on public assistance, then a deduction should be taken for their health care contribution. Other people pay have worked in the past and then lost their job, etc. so they did pay into it & may or may not have used it enough that it equaled what they paid in, so it would be a bit unfair to deny that person. Job market here is terrible, worse there I think
@xexixk Well there's ways around it you see and I think the NHS should be for those who are British citizens, even if they are homeless and don't pay tax, as clearly they can't help it. However yes good idea.
And yes I think in times like these you really can justify a state funded health system, that's why I do support it, BUT I don't think it's up to standards I think twice as much money should be put into it.
@ForeverComplaining Here in the US at one of the recent republican debates the moderator proposed a hypothetical quetion, that a person w/o health insurance became ill, slipped into a coma, who should pay for that care or should society just him die. A good number of very loud people in the audience started cheering and yelling 'Let him die." That's just sick in my opinion.
@xexixk I agree! But we must also remember the benefits of private healthcare, staff are paid more, the service is far better in America than here in the UK. Also for a state owned system, it'll mean people will be tax more and that will be very bad for the economy as small businesses will struggle to stay open. I think we need a system that helps those who really can't help it (the disabled, the homeless and elderly) but doesn't go over the top, as that'll problems.
@ForeverComplaining Here in the US health is good is a person has decent insurance, but even w/ insurance you can end up bankrupt, have difficutly getting coverage, or have to fight w/ the insurance company to get vital care taken care of or suddenly have your coverage canceled for some convoluted half fabricated reason. The US also has the highest infant mortality rate of the industrialized 'wealthy' countries, one of the lowest life expectancies also.
@xexixk Yes that's a very good point, the US has an awful social mobility rate etc, it has the worst out of all the Anglo countries, I think they came out as the worst and Australia was number one (if you look at the Sutton Trust website, they do all sorts of interesting research on this sort of stuff!)
@ForeverComplaining It used to be better in the US. In the 1950s during the Eisenhower administration the tax rate on top earners was actually much higher than it is today and that was a time of growth and prosperity. Over the last 30 yrs or we've been on an every accelerating downward slide. The North American Free Trade agreement was devastating to working people as well. The only ones to benefit out of that were multinational corps. - not their workers who soon found themselves w/o jobs.
@ForeverComplaining I don't know the avg salaries in the UK but in the US the profit motive in healthcare has had a horribly negative effect. In Canada the avg for a dr. is about $75,000, which is good I think, particularly considering the cost of living is lower in Canada than in the US. I've only met one Canada who wanted to do away with their system, but he was an anarchist utopian who wanted to abolish all states as well.
@xexixk Well, that's surprising as I remember reading a doctor gets £60k a year on average in the UK, which I'm sure works out as more than $75k. But I am certain nurses and surgeons are on better wages, as my uncles girl friend from America is a surgeon and she was going to work here, but the pay wasn't as good. Ah but when you consider the cost of living, I suppose it does work out better for them as house prices in America/Canada tend to be cheaper than in the UK.
@ForeverComplaining Housing, gasoline, food, etc. all cost less in Canada then in the US. Energy bills during the winter are higher on average as is auto insurance.
the reason your gas, electric, rail bills etc are so high, she sold them off, in fact so much, theres nothing left to sell for tory boy dave now,...oh apart from the NHS that is, & his plans are well under way, believe me & what did she do with north sea oil revenue? how about her windfall from council houses? how about her scam endowment mortgages? how about her

@bootsandsaddles Apart from keeping Britain out of the European common currency thus assuring control over its economy there's not much else. She created the illusion of revitalization, probably a good thing, after the defunct labor party, but essentially instituted hyper-privatization, crushed unions and diminished social protection of vulnerable minorities. In the end, Britain has lost its industrial base to Asia and has now greater wealth disparities than before she started.
@openfifth How could Britain have protected and retained it's industrial base without putting up trade barriers to stop the flood of cheap imports...can you answer that question?
@bootsandsaddles I dont think so if she were pm now we would have an Alzheimer's patient running the country. Not the best idea to get our finances in order at all

Amazing how posh she sounds in this video - I always thought she'd have a trace of a Lincolnshire accent, but she sounds posher in this then she did later on...

"I had never thought of having any appointment really."
That's probably the first time time that she lied to be the British public. Far from the last though.

:P You can see how naturally shrill her voice was and how hard she worked over the years to deepen it, although age helps ever so slightly, she didn't smoke, it was all down to hard work! :P

She seems so innocent and petit in this video. I bet no one could imagine then that Thatcher would be the iron lady, which she has become.
