  • im hairy high and low.... O.o

  • Thanks so much this video helped so much :)

  • I'm gonna so try this coz it's easy and bye the way THANK YOU so much :)

  • Amazing!! I'm going to give this a try in a moment, excited! I have wanted layers in my hair for AGES but I don't trust hairdressers. Love it! Thanks for the video!! :)

  • I am going to try this!

The last 3 times I went to a hairdresser, I was really very clear about how I wanted it cut. Long story short:

the last time I even took a picture of what I wanted and I came home with something not even close to that. I have a feeling all hairdressers just want to CUT, CUT, CUT even when you tell them no more than 3 inches...the last time they had to shave my neck too, it was that short. I cried!

So, tomorrow I'm going to do it myself!

  • Just did this twice to get the right length. It worked great. An inch makes a big difference using this method. Thanks.

  • SUPER CUTE! You look like a young Linda Blair! (not possessed, tho!) Ha! -3

  • u look great w/o makeup :)

  • can tell your brit "cuppa"

  • so all u did was chop off 3 inches one time? how did that create layers for your hair? im confused.

  • @Jewls4660 When you flip your hair over and cut it like that you're cutting it from a different angle, like back of the hair to the front with your head bent over. It's just the way the hair falls.

  • totally going to try this! A little scared though. I only trust one hair stylist and she charge 60$ an hour plus tips. Much rather spend that on cute clothes :)

  • This is How I cut my hair too!!!

  • HOLY FUCK, you just cut off like 3 inches!!!!!!! i would never do that!!! im trying to grow my hair :P :D

  • Hahahhaah in the thumbnail it looks like you're giving a bj

  • amazing video but did you cut your ponytail straight or at an angel , please answer :)

  • Two questions:

    - Do you have to use the special scissor that the hairdressers have (I'm sorry I don't know what it's called in English) or just normal scissors will do as well?

    - When you had it tied, did you have to position the scissor in a certain angle/slanted or did you just cut it straight?

    Cheers! :)

  • @dianmarin Hi....

-There are some special scissors for hair called 'hair shears'.You can find them pretty much everywhere. You can use normal scissors if you wish to but they can sometimes give you split ends.

-You have to cut it straight across or you'll end up with longer layers on one side and shorter on the other lol

    Hope that helped ^_^

  • I'm the same with hairdressers D: So now I'm one part-time (self-employed) and I do friend's and family's hair when they're too scared to go to hairdressers or don't want to spend too much hehe. Good tutorial!! :D great tune too haha x

  • that looks so easy =)

  • Omg That was soo easy!! t was really dumb of me to pay $20 for someone to cut it for me

  • Great job hun! *Dances to your music!* WEEE!!! <3 Dig <3

  • Love the HAIR musical :-D And this tutorial too :-D

  • LOVE! Although as a hairstylist, I hope you don't hold it against all of us for your unfortunate experience as a child. Keep up the great cuts!

  • Awesomee, i do the same thing ^.^ hehe..& i love it :)

  • Omg I love your accent lol.

  • This Works, i Tryed it on my hair & it looks Perfect (:

Now i dont have to spend sooooo Much money to get my hair cut ..

  • This seems simple enough...I am on the verge of trying this, I am just scared that I am going to mess it up!

  • @cnshahan Like she said just pull the ponytail holder down further if you don't want to take too much off. Remember you can always do it again if you don't take enough off the first time. Not taking enough off is better than too much. I have studied to be a beautician & they never taught us this. I'm going to try it in a few minuets. It's the same way you cut hair to get what people used to call "fly backs" except you would just do your bangs that way. lol!

  • all the people who disliked this video are jealous :) thanks great video.

  • Win to the SONG! AHahha! Your method works just perfectly. :)

  • What if ubhad short layers and u wanted to trim only the layers.. same way?

  • THANK YOU!!! I just did this and my hair looks fab :) I too have a fear of hairdressers as my long hair was cropped short one time and they made a right mess :( anyway 3 years of growing my hair long I refuse to let anyone but myself cut myhair so Thank you again! my hair loos great! x

  • Dont you hate girls who talks retarded in Youtube videos?! FACK i wanna punch 'em soo bad

  • @SprouseRocks don't be mean its her accent and a pretty cool accent.

  • i cut mine the exact same way! how weird.

  • I just did this, It is amazing. My husband even asked how much I spent on the hair cut and color at the salon.

  • I do want to hold you responsible because it totally works i did it last night and it was even better than the haircut i get at the salon. U R BRILLIANT. I will also do this from now on! Thank you!

  • I owe you my awsome haircut!

  • The back of my hair is shorter than the front... How would I cut it? Same way? Its kinda like diagonal back to front

  • woah...when you just cut a bunch offf i said "OMG NOO"

  • what shade is your hair? i really like it:)

  • Never brush wet hair.Or put it in a ponytail

  • @Gabbyxxzz eh it's actually alright to do it. Just don't act like an ape when you do it and you're fine.

  • @WahWeeWooWah IT causes breakage and split ends are makes hair fall out.

  • You are very sweet dear...

  • you shouldn't cut your hair when its wet... bc then when ur hair drys it shrinks. makes it shorter

  • @twizzler65 you just need to account for a couple inches of hair :) thats all.

  • @twizzler65 it's best to cut your hair when it's wet....just have to watch how short you cut it...

  • hey I have the same laptop :D I wish i could do that to my heart but i dont have enough courage haha

  • I cut my hair this way this morning nd it came out really good, guess I'll be cutting my own hair now

  • I need to try this! I love layers my hair needs to be cut and my mom who is actually a hairdresser HATES cutting my hair lol !! thanks!!!

  • Wow good technique and btw ur dong is whack!

  • I'm going to try this, although my hair is very thick so it will be a bit harder. BTW, you are ADORABLE!

  • wut if my hair is short? :D

  • wow... I literally just spent 2 hours looking for a good haircut tutorial and then found this. Just showered and tried it to cut off split ends and give my hair a little layers and I have to say- THANK YOU! My hair looks awesome with this quick cut. I'll be doing this from now on. Love it :) :)

  • @rosalynrachel76 it worked? im kinda scared to try.. haha

  • I did this on my mom she absolutely adores it thanks so much:)

  • Am I the only one who thinks this girl is amazingly cute?

Oh and thanks for the info!

  • Thankss Soo Muchhhh! This helped a Million (;

  • just want to say thank you so much for posting this! i tried this today and it worked perfectly i love how it looks!

  • Would you recommend this for long thick curly hair?

  • interesting song choice...

  • i cut my own hair and next time i'm trying this :) thanks!

  • Great video. You do something different with the front/bang area right?

  • :D

  • omg, just did this and my hair looks SO awesome! the only thing I suggest is trying it out on a doll first, it looks the smallest bit diff in real life. but its still awesome!! I've never had the courage to do it myself, but i have to say, its pretty fool proof.

  • Sooooo I did it and my hair looks AWESOME :D thank you so much :))

  • wait?!? do u put ur hair behind your ears when u put it in a pony?

  • Thank you so much for this video. It worked like a charm!

  • I think you are beautiful, I am going to try this myself, Thanks for the video.

  • Thank you so much for your video!! Some of my friends have said they cut their own layers they put a high pony on top of their head and cut straight across but this looked easier so I tried it. Hair will grow back lol. Ps I have really thick hair and the layers look amazing but I'm not sure how it would work for everyone. I also took it one step further and did another pony tail after the initial cut just on the top of my head to add some more shorter layers. SO AWESOME THANK YOU!!!

  • I'm a SAHM with no time to sit in a salon for an hour or two, so this worked out fine for me. Is it the best haircut I've ever had? Nope, but it's not bad either. Weirdly, one side looks quite professional, while the other is more choppy. I'll go over that side and shape it a little better.

I'd recommend cutting very conservatively the first time. If you cut too much there's no going back, but if you cut it a little and decide it's not enough, you can always cut it again.

  • Your voice is so delicate and pleasant!

I'm going to have to go try this. I have long hair that I've been cutting myself for years but never really knew HOW to, exactly.

  • Awesome! I did this to my five year old' s hair and it worked like a charm and she loved it! Ty for posting! (My daughter's hair was long, down to her bum. She now has layers from her shoulder on down.)

  • Nice! LOVE your color too!

  • I love the tags on this vid: Beauty, Fashion.... Recession :P Did this tonight, worked like a charm! I also combed my hair completely over to each side and did a trim too, before drying. And then i trimmed the hair around my cheeks to frame my face a little better. P.s., I have long fine hair, so to anyone else who has the same, it works great!

  • ummm u just cut your hair... how do u get layers? the video sucked and didn't help at all.

  • @hunumon No shit. She cut it at an angle, this creates layers. >_>

  • @hunumon The layers come from flipping your hair over. The bottom will be longer when you flip it back over, and you will have choppy long layers. It works like a charm. I've been trimming my hair like this for years to get rid of split ends and save $45

  • Amazing!! Now I can cut my hair whenever I want at home with no fuss and no payment. I did this. It gave my hair amazing volume, now have just added in some more layers in the front and gave myself a side fringe. Thanks!!! We are totally just socialised into thinking you can't cut your hair yourself! ;)

  • omg omg omg just did this to my hair and I am so happy I got the nerve to do it myself and that I found your video! Thank you so much, love! <3 my hair looks too cute! lol

  • This totally worked for me! Thanks for the easy tip!

  • OMG that happen to me too. my friend got her hair cut at a salon and i wanted that look and have never gone to a salon before, hers was long and layered and basically got a a super short with no layers. never going to a salon again.

  • nice british accent lol if it is fake plzz teach me how to do it lol

  • I do this! It really works! I love it. Its so easy and fast.

  • omg i forgot to put the conditioner in without realising and i wet my hair and done what you did and my hair looks awsome people have said it looks different (better) i love it and even though you said its best for thin hair but i got really thick blonde hair . . . it does a great job A****

  • Omg, I tried this, was getting so bored with y all one length hair, and it turned out awesome!! Didn't have to go through the anxiety of going to a hair salon, and I'm really pleased with the result. I definatly recomend this, great vid!!

  • It was really weord coz as soon as i clicked on the video and realized that i have that leave in conditioner in the cabinet.. my mum uses it :)

  • lol awesome.. i always wondered if that would work.. your hair is amazing!

  • You are a very beautiful young lady and I loved the simplicity of this vid and I love this song!!!

  • crazy girl. i liked that

  • i actually do the same exact thing to my hair and feel the same way about hair salons i do not go to them cause i feel that if my hair cut doesnt turn out the way i want it i do it for free so at least i didnt have to pay for it

  • thanks sooo much it really helped i did it myself and it came out great!

  • Similar experience with a hairdresser! Used to love going, and then I got a fungal-related skin problem and my hair was very patchy and thin. Was too scared to go to a salon, when I did, the hairdresser yelled to everyone that I was alopecia (I'm not). Second time, they botched my haircut, gave me a reverse layered style and I looked like a mushroom! ...Going to try this tonight! Wish me luck!

  • You didn't layer it you just went snap and it was gone.

  • I understand what you meant by not trusting the hair salon. They shaved the back of my hair once too - and decided to cut my own hair since then. :-) PEACE!!

  • WOW!!! Thank you sooooo much for posting this video!! I'm never going to the salon again! I tried it tonight and my hair turned out fabulas!! I am so sick of paying for over-priced trips to the salon and they never get it right anyway....

  • first: what kinda haircut was that?!?!? and second that was like 2 seconds haircut and 3 minutes drying it!!!!

  • Okay! I cut 2 inches off. Loved the result! I'm going to use this from now on!

  • my friend cut her hair this way and i thought she got it professionally done. My hair is down to my waistline. I'm going to go cut it right now!

  • @rockimism how did it turn out?

  • i just got myself some sexy hair in 5 seconds...it took me longer cause i had many split ends

  • NIICE STORYYYYYYYY ! :D

  • Well no wonder you have split ends. Cutting your hair with regular shears is a TERRIBLE idea. The reason that hairstylists use special shears is because they're finely sharpened to cut the hair with precision. I understand a bad experience but you can't judge the whole industry on one person's mishap. There's so many talented hairdressers out there. This all in all is just a really bad idea.

  • what's your hair color?

  • @div1kathrina idk how you spell it but from my view it looks sorta red-ish burgundy-ish

  • I shrieked when you cut ur ponytail! LOL I'm very protective of my hair even though it looks like utter SHEEYAT. Rawr! I'm so scared to try this o-o

  • only do this with thin hair thick it will just turn out choppy like mine did :(

  • nice :) ty just did it :) but fair warning my hair is long and straight :) I took about 5 inches off and it looks great :)

  • I can't believe you just did that!

  • Love the song!

  • i did it quickly after you... i love it you the best ....

  • thanks, this works great!!!!!!!

  • OMFG!!! YOUR BRILLIANT!!! Where do I donate?

  • HOLEY SHIT i just tried it..it's fantanstic!! I OVE THIS!!

  • Omg i know this trick from a long time ago! But what i did was to tie the bun in the MIDDLE of my head. i think it looked alright but i was like 12 years old and everyone else said it didnt look so good so i stopped doing it :P

Thanks for teaching me the proper way to do it!! :D

  • it lucks kool ^_^

  • i love your accent!!!!!!!

  • you look prettier w/o makeup btw.

  • LOL. you lied. that was like layered haircut in 2 seconds.

  • what happens if u have bangs ? (fringe) please reply xx

  • @MyCutiecutecute I tried it and nothing happend. s'all cool :D I got the same look.

  • bought what is called a creaclip and you cut your hair with it similar to this way, I love it..just go to .creaclip.com and you'll see what I mean :)

  • You had mentioned that you were "afraid" of hairstylist.....well, I am a cosmetologist..and what I saw you do just freaked me out...lol...you shouldnt be afraid of hairstylist....just find a really good one..and just a tip..this may work for you, but it will not for everyone...and there will be uneven pieces within your hair because there are no angles or blending.....I also am aware of "upside down " haircutting...but there will always be some finishing work "rightside" up.......

  • Tash- Thank you thank you thank you for introducing me to this fast trick. I can't believe how fantastic my hair actually looks as a result of this (though I'm seeing by BrittyB514's comment that it's a "real" haircut, so it isn't any wonder.) I've always cut my own hair, but it's never looked this great. It has so much motion and bounce and looks fun on my head. Can't ask for more than a fun head, right?

  • Wow, thanks a lot! I'm gonna do this to my hair tonight. I was trying to find the way to do that haircut at home, but I never thought I could do it that way.

Btw, you're very pretty, you remind me of Anna Paquin but with waaay better hair color <3

  • Just a little advice to the people watching this, this is called an 180 degree hair cut. It gives choppy layers, and I find is best for people who's hair isn't to thick. When I have clients with thick hair I give them what's called a 90. It won't look terrible on thick hair, just know it'll make it appear thicker. This is a GREAT cut for fin thin hair.

When I went to cosmetology school, they actually thought us this, it was more to explain to us how layers fall, but told us not to do it to

  • (continued) clients because it looks unprofessional and they will see how easy it is and start doing it on their own.

Some side notes, if you brush it tight and flat, the more even the cut will come out.

You should leave the elastic right at the start of your hairline, not slid down because that keeps the hair more secure creating a more even cut.

Then you can use a second elastic to bring it to the place you cut like she did, or use your fingers.

  • @BrittyB514 I am not trying to take over your video, just add some pointers, and let you know that it is actually a real cut.

Kinda curious how you figured this out on your own, you're pretty smart.

Feel free to delete my comment, or add some of the information I shared like the textures to your description.

Your hair looks great, and normally I'd advise against people cutting their own hair. But your video is one of the few I've seen with accurate advice. Sorry for the novel. lol

  • @BrittyB514 For what it's worth, I have ridiculously thick hair and I like the way the really chunky and choppy layers look as a result of this cut. So certainly go for it if piecy, funky hair is your MO!

  • I keep setting myself up to do then I just bottle it : (

    just cant do it.

  • Awesome! This worked so well for me! Thanks so much for sharing!

  • Done it!!!! Love it!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

  • I did this and I think it turned out great especially for my first try :D Thank you for posting this It's been a big help

  • your gorgeous :)

  • what`s that song called?

  • I just did this and my hair looks great ! My boyfriend says it looks awesome :]

  • brilliant! I got bolder and bolder and cut more and more off - I was afraid my hair would look thin but in fact it looks fuller and bouncier- and so incredibly easy to do. Thanks for posting this.

  • I tried this and it truns out great! love it. Thanks!

  • i loove your videos, you are beautiful! check mine out??:D

  • Do you think shoulder length hair would turn out ok? The shorter hair around neck doesn't stay in ponytail. Little nervous...but your hair looks fab and everyone has postive comments. Plz reply I really wanna try. I don't like hairdressers too.

  • @nicholpub i'm not sure to be honest - if i was going to cut my hair shorter i'd give it a go, but i'm trying to grow it at the moment so I wouldn't like to say.. i shouldn't think it would be a problem, but hopefully someone else here who has tried it with shorter hair will be able to comment and let you know :)

  • @tashlentine I went ahead...it turned out cute. Kinda of an A frame cut. Thanks for reply and posting great hair info. I might throw in some bangs too w/ my confidence being high. (: Thnxs again.

  • @nicholpub (sorry for my english, I'm trying to answer this question in a way you understand 2) I just want to say, I've got yesterday very exited about this video. :) My hair is shoulder lenght, little bit shorter, just like your's: the hair around neck does not stay in ponitail. But I DID IT. :) I made 2 ponitails, top of head and in the neck. I just cutted, and voila. :D I like it very much. ...and if something goes wrong, ITS JUST HAIR, it grows back. ;) But Im happy with the result. :) ...

  • ahh! im dripping ! hahah! funny!

  • @mariadoloresful that made me laugh too lol

  • Ok gave it a whirl... Probably the best haircut I've ever had, hahaha. Thanks a lot for posting :)

  • Wow that's super awesome!... I'm going to the Dominican on Friday and realized my hair is way way too long and is going to piss me off when I'm swimming. Don't have time (nor want to spend money) to go to the salon, so I'm totally giving this a whirl tonight. Thanks to all the other users for the reassuring comments of loving it. I'll post here after I've done it too :)

    Thanks!

  • Thanks a lot for this tip. I too don't go to salon's to get my hair trimmed/cut. I gave this a shot and it turned out great. I love it.

  • This song makes me feel happy inside :)

  • whee i LOVE the musical Hair :D

  • Thanks so much for the tip. I tried it worked great. I had recently got my hair cut and for the second time in a row the layers were messed up. This technique worked better then a professional. :) love it.

  • ur not suppose to cut your hair with a kitchen sissors it damages it:/

  • i might try tht(: thnx for the tip

  • OMG i love this i maybe try it myself lol

  • this song is so awsome x))

  • totally amazing just tried this! my hubby was amazed and couldnt beleive i did it on my own! he reallllyyyy liked it and i prefer it to when my hairdresser does it as i con control how much i actually want to cut off. i dont really trust her... thnxxxx

  • @Adonia1 My husband loved this too...he actually commented on it!!! I have relatively thin hair and this light layering makes it sort of "bounce back up".

  • has somebody try the creaclip yet? is worth the money????

  • Comment removed

  • this is soo awwwsmmm.. i really dnt like letting a differetn person cut my hair cz i love ma hair soo much.. and i tried this way and its AWWSMMMM..... and thanks so much for sharing!! andd jus wanna add one thing, if u like ur layers more visible u can simply do the same thing to the top hair bit so dat u get it really really nice :)

  • CooI, I've been doing the same for years!!

  • cool

    i will try it :)

  • are you suppose to cut straight or a bit slanted? please reply.
