im pretty good at playing sax and im 12 but i cant play tha good but i have memorized mambo no.5, rout 66, and like 5 more jazz songs that i cant remember the name of plus my own improvization peice x.D
@scottyizsmall wow im 15 bt i didnt start on my tenor sax til 7th grade but it seems to me you know a great deal of music..maybe you could teach me something
I'm the soloist's sister and was at this concert...trust me, it was improvised and purely off-the-cuff. I know, I know, people would say "yea of course you'd say that because you're his sister," but believe me, I was nervous for his improv solo and he surprised me yet again :) he blew me away too!
@zbalder14 hey you kknow maybe you are right,,,i mean if i were to be performing a song and improv i would have the chord changes down by memorization (helps the improvization a LOT). But maybe im wrong :)
@zbalder14 It sure does look like that it was written. The kid's always staring at the sheet music. To improv like that, specially with this age, you must know the music / chord progression by heart. There's no need to be looking at the sheet music during the whole solo.
@OneGuyOneHarp I filmed it. The solo is entirely improvised. He was just accepted as one of 14 to attend the Berklee Jazz workshop. He is 15 and it is his second scholarship summer at Berklee.

Yeah I just now started to get good like that too rabbithunter. It took me about a good 4 years of practice and learning the basics first 2 years just to play good like now xP Learning the Sax is definately not easy
