@Krowe2020 For some reason in Windows 7 (and probably Vista) removed the ability to play animated .gif images with the integrated photo viewer. So you'll have to open them with IE or Firefox or a specific .gif viewing program. As long as you did the animation right and it plays in IE, then it works correctly, and you can upload it to photobucket or imgur to show to other people if you wish.

@Foliap If you're looking for the Layers part. Hold down Ctrl and hit the "L" button. It should come up for you. I was about to ask the same question, but I seen the "Layers" (under the "Dialogs") and over to the right had Ctrl+L.

Any way to paste images into layers without making floating selection? And why when I paste a pic into layer one when I go to layer 2 and paste layer 1 disappears?

@AceToxic777 When you paste it, it makes a new layer called "pasted layer" or whatever. If you right click that you can click "new layer" and it makes the pasted image a new layer. Then you can move the layer around and "merge down" it onto the layer below it. Or anchor it to the background.

@Stanhoy1 Make sure the backgrounds on the images are opaque rather than transparent. That's why I copy the background layer rather than making new layers.

@zivanin Uhhh? You aren't aware that a video in .gif form is an animation?

Really the best way to make a video clip into a .gif is to use a .AVI > .GIF conversion tool. In gimp, you'd have to insert each frame in your animation one by one, so this is surely not the way to do it.

@BigDOG6300 This is false on two levels. Gif can be pronounced in two ways with a hard and a soft G. The reason for this is because the extension .jpg used to be .jiff, but that's not used anymore.

@LoverMidnightXD You have to make sure the background in the layers is opaque, since by default it's actually transparent. The background slide will still be solid, but the layers on top have completely clear backgrounds.

So if each of your layers is a card in a deck of cards, and you're laying them down one after another, naturally you'll be able to see the ones underneath. That's why I copied the solid background layer a bunch of times rather than making a new layer a bunch of times.

@leshliechu when you save it, instead just change the name a the end. The original Gimp file type is an XCF, to change it, just type your normal name for it, then put .gif at the end. example: Animation.gif just write .gif at the end. same thing for JPGs and any other type.

dude, i did everything you did, step by step, i made a 4-layer animated gif, but then, i uploaded it to be my Avatar in a forum, but it didnt work!, my avatar was just a blank white square, it didnt even say it was invailed, it was uploaded successfully but failed to activate the animation, please, any help is appreciated,!!

@exelentdude Be sure that wherever you're uploading it supports animated images as avatars, because some forums don't. Also, did you test it before uploading it and make sure it works, cuz if it doesn't you may have accidentally saved it not as an animation.

@exelentdude If it's animated when you test it, then you did it right. Make sure it's the right size and stuff. Avatar sizes used to always be 100x100pixels, but you should check in the forum settings to see how bit it can be, since I remember 100x100 from like 7 years ago.
