  • when i see the dancer doing this dance, i would drop even jennifer lopez...

  • apelah kalian semua masalah tarian pun di pergadohkan....yg menari aja rileks.......tak ambil peduli....

  • Bagi yang tidak memiliki deria penghiduan, bau tahi dan perfume tak ada bezanya pun. You and the rest of your people don't understand art and culture so better shut up.

  • Saw in Nusa Dua - Bali , young as the little girls were , were taught to dance... willing or not...

Wonder if they were missing much of schooling...

That is their island culture , I suppose...

However saw here in Queensland some of these young Balinese kids (printils) moving automatically there arms when they heard the gamalan music...

But admit very gracious dances...terimah kasih...

  • Don't you think before you give such a negative comment you should've ask people around first? School is a must in Indonesia, we especially stress on the first 9 years of elementary education. Those girls you saw may be practicing dance in their leisure time, but again you wouldn't know because it's just an assumption.

  • Why the dancers moves their eyes around while they dancing? Is that typical for balinese culture?

Wow never thought that balineses dancing can be so interesting and its the moves and costumes are so complicated, beautiful and very difficult such as in Siamese or Khmer dances

and I think Bali is so different of the rest Indonesia

    thx for sharing

  • The eye-flicking, called "seledet", are very typical of Balinese dance. These serve to accent certain points in the music, as well as to separate major movement sequences.

  • yes because Bali is still Hindu in religion and also culture...I think Balinese dances are much more difficult than Siamese and Khmer dances. Muscles are controlled, each one of them, and you have to know what character are you playing while dancing the dance because balinese dances are dance-drama

  • @farisindonesia

It doesn't look like Balinese dances have sets of moves like Khmer and Siamese dances do. Seems more 'random' (and I dont mean it in a bad way)...so there is sure a lot of more variation to remember. This dance is amazing...I have to watch it again. :)

  • @MusaboruOo they do have many sets of moves actually, certain moves that fit in with different accents in the musc. It's very precise actually, these dancers are just really good and make it look natural

  • @ElanTamara

It's beautiful! However when i was young, I was freaking out when they started to move!

  • Balinese culture is unique, but it's not that different with the rest of Indonesia. We have similar roots when it comes to art and culture. Javanese and Balinese are especially close to each other because of the shared history.

  • Could someone explain to me the musical system of Balinese dance. I know that the dancers dance to the music provided by the gamelan. What is the basis of gamelan music? For example, Carnatic music (used by Bharatanatyam or Kuchipudi dancers uses various tala (or beats in the 3, 4, 7 or 9 cycle, with a raga. Please inform me about Balinese music

  • Balinese music traditionally operates on gong cycles based on multiples of 4 beats, although modern pieces do use odd meters at times.

  • @dpinvogue - To find out more about Balinese music read "A House in Bali" by Colin McPhee and also the Nonesuch Explorer label has put out many recordings of Balinese gamelan music for dance dramas and traditional wayang plays and the liner notes talk extensively about the elements of gamelan music, the different scales, etc.

  • wow man so beautiful to watch ;),like watching butterfly fluttering in the wind ;)

  • I have never seen anything this enchanting in my like.

    Thanks.

  • Great culture! BALI has everything! the amazing dance, the beautiful girls, the great gamelan! the paintings, the handicrafts, everything, COOL! thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed the dance!

  • Great dance, a bit mellow and smooth... but not my favorite one. Legong Lasem and Legong Jobog for me are the best kind of all legongs.

Please could someone upload Legong JOBOG here in youtube? Thanx

  • Thank you for posting something so beautiful, awakens something painful but it's in a nice way, I love Indonesia.

  • lol...i've never seen this dance before..

    even though I'm a balinese...lol

but I like it very much..miss u BALI...

    ~anacereka~

  • Magical! Good question above, or are there any movies featuring this kind of dance?

  • How should a tourist go about seeking these performances?

  • This form of Legong is rarely performed nowadays. However, if you go to Bali around June, the month-long Bali Arts Festival at ISI Denpasar might just be the place to find dances of this sort.

  • fantastic

  • Enchanting!

  • Almost painfully beautiful or ethereal might be a better word...the dancing is gorgeous to-)

  • wow loves it with my half japanese half balinese half japanese self!
