I notice some of you deliberately failed to mention a little information that is very important. Ali had hired and use Larry as a sparing partner for several years in preparation for his big fights. Hence Larry had learn close up many critical elements from the champ. No doubt this intimate knowledge would have assisted a much younger Larry Holmes fighting Ali who was almost 40 years old at the time of this fight. Ali should never had reentered the ring at this stage.

This video only perpetuates that bullshit excuse-making for Ali, for the moderate validity those excuses have, and more importantly, takes the credit away from a great champion like Larry Holmes. They made Holmes look like the asshole in this fight. Ali challenged Holmes. larry had to fight him and he cried in his dressing room afterwards because he hated giving his idol such a beating. Larry Holmes was an amazing boxer with all the skills of Ali and then some and class to go with it.

@bigmoney749 Holmes did not have much class I can tell you that. One minute he claims Ali is the the greatest and then the next he saying how he was in another class than Ali. He never gives credit to any other great. He is a top 5 heavyweights but seemed to tick me off numerous times throughout his career and post career because of his attitude. Personally I think Holmes would give Ali a harder time then any other heavyweight other then Joe Frazier, because of Joe's hatred and pursuit of Ali.

Trust me, if you were as good as Larry Holmes and you got no credit for it because you were humble, you'd get pretty pissed too. Also, Joe's hatred of Ali did not help him at all. Emotion is bad in a fight. Joe didn't hate Ali as much before their first fight and that's a big part of why he won.

@bigmoney749 Ali almost always gave respect to his opponents after fights, with the exception of Frazier, but even later in in his life Ali would show he had tremendous admiracy for him. Holmes was not "in another class" lets not get to excited. Joe did hate Ali before the first fight, where are you from? Emotion are bad but Joe was the exception he would not give up on Ali because he hated him so much. Holmes is simply jealous of Ali's legacy and it is pretty obvious.

Ali tended to drop his right hand when he used his left hand, whether it be a jab, hook etc. Norton used this to his advantage by countering his own left when Ali did so, and it won him the first fight. If Norton could do it, Holmes could do it. Holmes had the greatest jab in boxing history too.

I think Ali lost this fight not just because he was aged. It also had to do with his reasons to fight. He beat Sonny Liston through his youth and speed. He beat all those contenders before his exile through his speed and youth. He came back just a glimpse of what he used to be. However he eventually beat everybody there was to beat. This he did for his people and his beliefs. He had almighty God in his corner. In this fight he fought for himself. He still is an amazing man.
