It takes 2 hrs of light energy that hits earth to provide enough energy to power the planet for an entire yr. Yet the governments of the world always choose to put the most money in the least efficient (in terms of net efficiency) energy and fuel sources.
@TheChineseEmpire actually i believe it's only one hour :). But, there is hope for solar, the cost prohibitive nature of an energy source that is tried and true like fossil fuels will eventually be too high for citizens to stand, with higher fossil fuel costs and lowering solar costs when these 2 intersect is when we will see a normalizing of solar energy, people will feel better about investing in it and we can only benefit from this clean tech. However, they bring up some concerns...
one of the concerns is that solar power plants take up a lot of space, but technology in solar is constantly rising, they are finding ways to make solar panels so thin that they are basically film, with things like that around the corner it would probably make solar plants that much more efficient by both being smaller but also absorbing more photons. With all that said, we must not ignore, wind, tide, and fusion power. Combining these power sources is key. Fusion in 20 years.
Well, there's nothing on tv!
