  • "Mumms and Daddums and I" I just love it. She is just all kinds off sleek.

  • I absolutely love the way Gloria talks. Its fun to listen to her. Is that a Boston accent? It sounds perfect.

  • I think I'll just fix myself a Docta Peppa!

  • Good lord . . .I grew up with those people . . it's called Locust Valley Lock-Jaw !

  • UGH! who's the BabCOCK who disliked this??????

  • i wanna be like Auntie Mame when i grow up

  • Top drawer... I'm gonna start saying that! haha

this is such an amazing movie!

  • Tootsie is in the AFI Top 100 and Auntie Mame is not...scandalous! The look on Mame's face at :58 is genius, pure genius! Brava/Bravo for the post.

  • she looks like a barbie!!!!! good grief

  • Rosalind timing is absolutely impeccable. Love it.

  • I hate her voice! I swear it makes me cringe too!

  • i'm an upper richman girls' school girl

  • @WikeddTung that should be richmond

  • you know those movie montages that are popular like the end of the Great Movie Ride at Disney, or the one on TCM (100 Years of Movies), I always thought Mame should have been in one of them...and the face she makes when she stares in utter bewilderment at Gloria in this scene should be the one that is captured...just hilarious!

  • "Books are awfully decorative. Don't you think?"

  • My parents and I used to watch this movie every Xmas along with the Alister Simms "Scrooge". It brings back terrific memories as I watch it every year over the holidays. It is a wonderful comedy. I loved Peggy Cass as "The Gooch".

  • ah yes. this is all that is left of Auntie Mame on youtube, just clips. *sigh*

  • Books are awfully decorative, don't you think.

    Makes me cringe every time.

  • Joanna Barnes was also in the original "The Parent Trap". That's a real Boston Brahmin accent coming out of her - - she's an authentic Beacon Hill, Boston Blue Blood.

  • It may be a real accent but she was faking it. Watch the original trailer for the movie and she speaks without using the accent.

  • *****sorry that IS NOT a boston accent but a locust valley lock jaw...from locust valley on long island. nowhere here in boston do we speak like that...even to the people

who try to imitate us, and failing so poorly.

  • @doogle1001 she was also in the remake of the parent trap, as the meredith's mother, vicky. that was funny because vicky was her name in the first one.

  • I love auntie mame

can't remember who played gloria, but she was great in this. love the ping pong story too, that comes later on.

the actress also played Vicky in the original parent trap, and also appeared in the parent trap remake as meredith's mom.

  • Joanna Barnes - later was a Playboy model

  • OOOOHHH... i didn't know she'd done THAT!

so she went from "top Drawer" to "bottom drawer of father's desk under old tax returns"? LOL!

  • Joanna Barnes' performance in the 1958 film Auntie Mame as the snooty 'Gloria Upson' earned her a Golden Globe nomination for "New Star of the Year."

  • Hahahaha!...."....mums and daddums"!

  • Rosalind Russell is amazing, you can see it in this scene; her mannerisms are perfect!

  • I really dislike the blonde girl!

  • Top Drawer

  • Best movie ever!!!

  • This is my favorite movie of all time. It is incredibly funny, poignant, and has something to say. It is life-affirming.

  • what a great movie

  • love this!
