@Evman95 i actually agree with you.. if it wasnt for the Axis (Germany mostly) the relationship between the allies would have never been a great one...

@Zentrix97 I don't think I've ever heard of any person who plays any shooter game that actually thinks getting shot in real life is fun. I'm pretty sure they just think playing the game is fun. But hey if you have actually met someone like that which I doubt then yeah they need a reality check
@Zentrix97 I know you didn't mean that they would enjoy being literally shot. I didn't mean it literally either, but I don't know anyone who actually thinks war is a fun concept with all the death and sorrow thats invovled
how come everyone thinks if you play COD, you don't know anything about the military? No one thought this was a game, and in actuality, the COD game was originally made to honor those in WWII
Britain couldn't have won the war on its own. Britain had stood alone against Germany for 2 years before America joined the war, and they were still alone until America's invasion force reached Europe (1944?).
To say that America won the war on their own, or did all the work, though, is not correct - but yes, we won because they provided the man power and resources that we needed to move into the offensive and retake Europe.
Like FinalHours1 said - USA + Britain = unbeatable.
i think that the british contibution to the war was exeptional for such a small nation.
we had great battles, we contributed a huge amount to the war (staging base for Overlord, ect).
BUT i'm definitly not saying we won the war by ourselves or something?
in the very first post i actually said "no disrespect to the US in world war 2" caus i fully appreciate the huge effort the americans made in the war.
@MiketheMadness To most of us Americans, you Brits, the Aussies and Canadians are not "Foreigners"; you are our relatives. Lets face it; although our nations each has its own unique colorful personality, there is a common base of custom that ties us all together as "family": English, British Common Law, Shakespeare, the King James Bible, common family names, etc.
In WW2, Americans would NOT stand by and let Germany / Japan attack Britain and Australia unchallenged.
@MiketheMadness The Lend-Lease act was established before Pearl Harbor, so that America could funnel supplies to Britain, France, China and the USSR. Britain received twice as much aid as all other nations combined. America's neutrality ended long before the Pearl Harbor attack forced us into declaring war.
In August 1942, America was not prepared for the Guadalcanal campaign, but we landed the 1st Marine Division there because of the imminent threat to Australia.
Cont: Agree that we Americans took WAY too long to recognize the Axis threat. We continued to ignore that threat even as France fell and British forces evacuated from Dunkirk.
However, I would argue that it was the direct threat to Britain during the Battle of Britain in September 1940, that totally shifted the American Perspective and allowed direct support of Britain via the Lend-Lease Act. Before BOB, Americans wanted no part of war; after BOB, we knew we HAD to get involved.
Cont; Agree totally with your earlier statement that Britain's contribution to WW2 was enormous. Early Hollywood WW2 movies have unfortunately emphasized only
American involvement. For example, the air bombing campaign launched from Britain involved BOTH the RAF and 8th AF, and it would be nice to see a HBO mini-series that showed the true one-two knockout punch delivered to the Nazis by the combined Night-Day bombing of the RAF/ 8th AF.
@MiketheMadness Viewed from that perspective, it was Hitler's stupidity that set the Nazi war machine on a path to defeat. By attacking the USSR, Hitler used up valuable resouces that could have been used against Britain.
The scariest scenario would have been for Americans to refuse to get involved at all, no Lend-Lease Act to aid Britain and the USSR, Britain to surrender to unrelentless pounding by the Luftwaffe, and then Hitler using full Nazi resources against the USSR standing alone.
@MiketheMadness the Russians don't deserve most of the credit. Please tell me how? Hitler made a huge mistake attacking Russia, but Hitler wasn't able to use his full force to repel them. America was attacked by the Japanese and they basically won that theatre by themselves, after Poland was attacked Britain stepped up in aid of them and for 2 and a half years defended and still stood after Hitler poured military might at them. So why does Russia deserve most of the credit?
@MiketheMadness Imagine the U.S. remaining neutral, allowing Britain to fall, and Japan to roam unchallenged in the Pacific. The USSR could not survive past 1942 against 3rd Reich's full might. Imagine Nazi forces mounting a full attack against the USSR in Spring/Summer 1942, a USSR totally alone without Lend-Lease support.
Imagine the research/development capability of the Nazi's minus the night-day bombing of the RAF/8thAF. Atomic weapons? Long-range Bombers? Ballistic missles?
@MiketheMadness 63DW89A is exactly right, and also it really dones't matter how many causalties you inflict, you dimwit. It's about the operation and what it did for the war
@MiketheMadness how many military deaths in total (that's from U.S., Britain, Canada, and Russia) did the Germans have? 5 million. How many military deaths did Russia have? (That's from the Germans) 8-10 million. Russia still made a contribution to the war, but that's because they had the largest military in the war, they didn't fight with complex tactics they just used sheer force resulting in their major amount of causalties.
@MH60KSOAR if it wasn't for Hitler going insane, the whole world would be fucked.
he had armies capable of conquoring the world, yet didn't allow them to function.
realistically, if Russia had been defeated, that would had left thousands of kilometres of land for the Germans to exploit, millions more soldiers, and we (the allies as a whole) would have been royally fucked.
they all deserve credit.
obviously as hollywood is in america, for american audiences, most films focus on Americans.
@MiketheMadness but why are you giving all of the credit? If America was defeated by Japan then the whole pacific would have fallen under their control. The Japanese didn't know defeat until the Battle of Midway. Of course on the ETO much of what happened probably was due to the Russians, but they don't deserve the credit for the whole world war. If Japan had beat the American forces at Midway it probably could of beat them. Then Japan and Germany would have both pressed any other remaing enemy.
i said they DESERVE CREDIT, not all of it, just some.
everyone was important. America, everyone knows about, but the other countries dont get recognistion for their contribution. now i'm not trying to make the contribution of Britain, Russia, Poland, Canada, Australia etc bigger than they actually were, BUT THEY WERE PRETTY BIG.
i am only saying that people dont know about their exploits as much as they should.
To those British ppl who believe we could of won the war without amercains u r wrong we didn't have the man power or industrial strength to push them bk just hold them where they were. We all worked as a team no1 was better the any1 else.
@Vindicate58 no iwo jima is not really only about 20 minutes there is 2 parts of guadacanal, 1 part camp gloucester, 3 parts of pelielu, and 1 part of okinawa
im hoping for one miniseries more from Tom and Steven. the Mediterranean Theater of War. its a very forgotten front but nonetheless one that contained some of the worst battles allied troops encountered in europe. focusing on the US 34th infantry division. Torch, Tunisia, Avalanche, Monte Cassino, Anzio, Gothic Line....only Sicily and Dragoon missing.
Was this better than band of brothers?....My father was with the 3rd marine division. Radio man. He spoke of the navajos and eating whatever bug crawled by on Guam. He use to laugh at us kids when we said we were hungry, he would just look at us and say, "You dont know what hungry is boy"..R.I.P. Dad.
@barmtrail ya same. my great uncle was a marine and he was a submachine gunner in Okinawa and Guam. ya he told us the same kind of things. ya the pacific is alot better than band of brothers. :)
Watching this brings it home the massive and very personal sacrifice the Americans made during WW2. As a Brit and as a member of the British military I thank my American cousins for this sacrifice.
@Soapyfrogbucket British made an awesome sacrifice too! The London Blitz was terrible for you guys, but you stuck through it! It's because of this Hitler left you alone, because he couldn't do anything against you! Had he won the London Blitz, it is probable he wouldn't have invaded russia, im not saying he wouldn't have just that it's probable. If he didnt invade russia, he had a one way shot at North America.
personally, i dont think russia would've gotten involved if hitler didnt invade :(
@Coolcow6 Actually there is no way Hitler WOULDN'T have invaded the Soviet union. Even before he was elected he stated that his biggest priority was the total extermination of Communism.
@Soapyfrogbucket You are probably the first man I've seen from Europe that actually praised us. FireEyedMaidOfWar, a frenchman, insulted us. I thank you.
@Soapyfrogbucket I thank everyone, we could never have done it alone, my great uncle always told me that those Japanese riflemen were the most ferocious men he had ever seen and the British forces "shit thier pants" when they heard those screams and war cries in the darkness. He died last week, never more proud to have known anyone than him.
@Soapyfrogbucket Americans were heroes during ww2 and a bit after...but when NATO invaded Libya and afghan and iraq they became bunch of murderers....for real o.o
@Soapyfrogbucket in WWII 20 million fucking russians died so the americans did nothing compared to the russians!!! why is all americans thinking they did the best in every war?!! in movies like this they always honour the americans when the russian soldiers got traded like canonfood!!!!!!
@DarthUno Maybe because it IS made by Americans. Not saying I don't mind seeing any Russian films about Russians beating the crap out of enemies but, the fact of the matter is, influence can get you attention. No disrespect to any other nation out there.
America is just attracting more attention to it's movies, and the fact that most nations speak English and not Russian needs to be considered. But hey, I've seen Russian films here and there, and I gotta say: They Rock!
@DarthUno Just because you lost more, doesn't mean you did more. Russia lost the most in WW1. They left near the end allowing the Germans to attack the west in full force. So what's your point?
0:25 I just loved Eugine's face and his voice there. He looked like a little boy that's been thrust into the war and he did know what he got himself into.
For all you people who think war is anything like a video game... look up the Bataan death march ... where 75,000 men were imprisoned by the Japanese. Look up how the killed tens of thousands of men who were pows. Look up the pictures of the Japanese cutting the heads off the marines cause after 60 miles of marching with no water and no food they could no longer stand up. Dont ever compare video games to real life war again.
Shiro, I am from Malaysia & during your conquest of my country in 1942, many were murdered without provocation. Please stop reading your government textbooks & search for the truth
Despite its defeat, the Imperial Japanese Empire still liberated most of South-East Asia from the bonds of western colonialism. Sayonara, Dutch, French and English oppressors! Gone is the myth that white imperialsits are indefeatable.
@Shirokinukatsukami...i'm from the philippines wherein during the Japanese invasion of 1942, many Filipinos were butchered and many filipino women were raped by the japanese soldiers, so i don't think there is sound reason for you to say that crap...considering that the japanese is as much of an imperialist just like its western counter part as magnified by the term "Imperial Japanese Empire."
I dont why or how you guys are talking about Video games or getting mad at someone else's ignorant comment. Every time I see a trailer of "The Pacific" I get excited and wish I could buy all 10 episodes right away.
I know this is nitpicking, as it truly looks great and i hopes its as good as Band of Brothers... But at 0:26 thats a Destroyer bombarding the beach, which it couldn't do (By todays standards, it would be a frigate ;])
Actually, destroyers in WW2 were able to perform shore bombardment. Look up the Fletcher-class destroyers. Though, I think WW2 destroyers were known more for their convoy escort duties and anti-submarine warfare.
And thank the British for doing their part in both theatres of the war. I'm glad to hear a compliment from a non-American who doesn't entirely hate our guts.
As an American we thank the English effort in the war....my grandad served in normandy and the bulge.....he said after the pounding ur country took from Hitler's airforce.. you brits were made of iron....salute!
@miguelthedog i do wish there was one of these about either the British or Russians during world war two. considering that Russia made the biggest sacrifice and did the most to defeat the Nazi's and Britain stretched the manpower of the small nation across three continents during the war and still pulled through with great victories, there must be some stories to tell about both these, seemingly overlooked, nations. :)
America arrived 2 years late. the Commonwealth was fighting across the world before that. we won North Africa, we won Burma, the battle that caused the Japanese the greatest defeat in the Pacific? British battle. Battle of Britian? zero americans.
and America helped us out in Europe, and was in the Pacific, and we're obviously greatful for the aid and equipment we got from them, but for fuck sake, remove you're head from your arse.
Did u just read BBC history? None of the battles britiain won was crucial enough to change the tide of the war... I am not saying british didn't do anything but the main part of WW2 was not won by Britain. Commonwealth is great
@roykuo4 if we hadn't been fighting the first 3 years then there wouldnt have been anything left to fight over. and i said "commonwealth", Britain stopped Japs in Burma, halted nazi's in battle of britain and north africa.
"BBC history"? you make that up? anyway, stop getting offended, i repeat, take your head out your arse mate.
and Russia basically Won over half the war. (30,000,000 civilians alone died, up to 75,000,000 soviets died altogether).
Ye dude, they wouldn't be fighting if not for lend lease. North Africa? You know the major tanks they use in that battle? The M3 Grants and M4 Shermans are major players in those battles. Do you really believe they have those tanks in the British arsenal? No, the brits had cromwells and crusaders. What i am saying is that British contribution is good but not as great as you think it is.
@miguelthedog Thanks man, as a "yank" I thank you. 2 other British youtubers didn't respect this, but not you. You are a good person, your country deserves praise, especially for sinking the Bismark.
Band of Brothers was awesome, I can't wait for this!
You guys should consider reading the book Band of Brothers by Ambrose, as well as Winter's memoirs. Both are very good reads, especially for those interested in World War II history.
I understand why you call it propaganda because to be fair to Cocaine, this series is giving the message that America is just but the thing is Cocaine, we had a just reason to fight because we were attacked!
Its all based on the memoirs of real Marines who had boots on the ground in the Pacific theater, just like how Band of Brothers was based on the memoirs of the men in the 101st. How is that propaganda?
@mountainman3311 thats the point. this isn't a miniseries that they wanted to be compared to band of brothers. the pacific is a completely different spectrum then what band of brothers was presented in, and ought to be compared that way
What has the war to do with naked women? Thats just to get more views.

Soapyfrogbucket 1 year ago 39
@Soapyfrogbucket British made an awesome sacrifice too! The London Blitz was terrible for you guys, but you stuck through it! It's because of this Hitler left you alone, because he couldn't do anything against you! Had he won the London Blitz, it is probable he wouldn't have invaded russia, im not saying he wouldn't have just that it's probable. If he didnt invade russia, he had a one way shot at North America.
personally, i dont think russia would've gotten involved if hitler didnt invade :(
Coolcow6 1 year ago
@Coolcow6 Actually there is no way Hitler WOULDN'T have invaded the Soviet union. Even before he was elected he stated that his biggest priority was the total extermination of Communism.

Trekiefreak777 10 months ago
@Soapyfrogbucket I thank everyone, we could never have done it alone, my great uncle always told me that those Japanese riflemen were the most ferocious men he had ever seen and the British forces "shit thier pants" when they heard those screams and war cries in the darkness. He died last week, never more proud to have known anyone than him.

@Soapyfrogbucket Americans were heroes during ww2 and a bit after...but when NATO invaded Libya and afghan and iraq they became bunch of murderers....for real o.o
Tadej96SLO 4 months ago
@Soapyfrogbucket in WWII 20 million fucking russians died so the americans did nothing compared to the russians!!! why is all americans thinking they did the best in every war?!! in movies like this they always honour the americans when the russian soldiers got traded like canonfood!!!!!!
DarthUno 3 months ago
@DarthUno Maybe because it IS made by Americans. Not saying I don't mind seeing any Russian films about Russians beating the crap out of enemies but, the fact of the matter is, influence can get you attention. No disrespect to any other nation out there.
America is just attracting more attention to it's movies, and the fact that most nations speak English and not Russian needs to be considered. But hey, I've seen Russian films here and there, and I gotta say: They Rock!

@DarthUno yea about 22mil

@DarthUno Just because you lost more, doesn't mean you did more. Russia lost the most in WW1. They left near the end allowing the Germans to attack the west in full force. So what's your point?

For all you people who think war is anything like a video game... look up the Bataan death march ... where 75,000 men were imprisoned by the Japanese. Look up how the killed tens of thousands of men who were pows. Look up the pictures of the Japanese cutting the heads off the marines cause after 60 miles of marching with no water and no food they could no longer stand up. Dont ever compare video games to real life war again.

Despite its defeat, the Imperial Japanese Empire still liberated most of South-East Asia from the bonds of western colonialism. Sayonara, Dutch, French and English oppressors! Gone is the myth that white imperialsits are indefeatable.
Shirokinukatsukami 1 year ago
@Shirokinukatsukami...i'm from the philippines wherein during the Japanese invasion of 1942, many Filipinos were butchered and many filipino women were raped by the japanese soldiers, so i don't think there is sound reason for you to say that crap...considering that the japanese is as much of an imperialist just like its western counter part as magnified by the term "Imperial Japanese Empire."

I know this is nitpicking, as it truly looks great and i hopes its as good as Band of Brothers... But at 0:26 thats a Destroyer bombarding the beach, which it couldn't do (By todays standards, it would be a frigate ;])
Aaaaanyway, looks awsome, can't wait ^_^

Actually, destroyers in WW2 were able to perform shore bombardment. Look up the Fletcher-class destroyers. Though, I think WW2 destroyers were known more for their convoy escort duties and anti-submarine warfare.

still, no disrespect to US in WW2 :)
MiketheMadness 1 year ago 2
@MiketheMadness yeah and you know how the british won all those continents oh yeah cause America helped them out
BlazzeDJB7 1 year ago
@BlazzeDJB7 just be quiet.
MiketheMadness 1 year ago
@MiketheMadness
Did u just read BBC history? None of the battles britiain won was crucial enough to change the tide of the war... I am not saying british didn't do anything but the main part of WW2 was not won by Britain. Commonwealth is great
roykuo4 1 year ago
@roykuo4 if we hadn't been fighting the first 3 years then there wouldnt have been anything left to fight over. and i said "commonwealth", Britain stopped Japs in Burma, halted nazi's in battle of britain and north africa.
"BBC history"? you make that up? anyway, stop getting offended, i repeat, take your head out your arse mate.
and Russia basically Won over half the war. (30,000,000 civilians alone died, up to 75,000,000 soviets died altogether).
read up. britain WAS crucial.
MiketheMadness 1 year ago
@MiketheMadness
