This might seem random, but I'm wondering... Everyone says cucumbers grow almost like weeds and grow faster than you can eat them. So I'm wondering, if someone was to eat nothing but cucumbers, how many plants would it take to continuously support him? Not that I'll actually eat that many, but just wondering how many the plants actually produce :)
Question What is Mulch, and Im trying to learn how to grow vegetables, I got seedlings of Cucumber pumpkin tomatoes and some seeds of squash and watermelon, any Recommendations?
@CHEVYCAMARO4GEN It's basically a layer of organic material that helps keep moisture in the soil, provide nutrients, and keeps weeds out, but try starting your seeds in some little pots or cups then transplant them. Hope that helps.
I have a problem with my cucumber plants, I have about 30 of them, and only 1 of them are producing cucumbers... I am guessing its because they havent been polinated, is there a way to manually polinate these plants or better yet get seeds that don't require polination?
I'm very new to gardening and had been agonizing over using metal trellises for fear that, with the hot sun, they will burn the plant. However, the vine in the video looks fine. I still find it surprising though that metal trellises don't pose a heat threat to plants. ... How come?
@lemkelegion ? well any seedling fruit, vege, or herb needs close attention till their growing on their own then you just have to water, weed, protect them from heavy storms and from pests and your set. fertlizer is nice but ive grown fine crops to term without them.
I love your use of the bed frame for a trellis, not only are you recycling trash but it looks so rustic and attractive too. Lots of good information in this video. Thanks! Anna
dude! awesome video! I just started gardening this year and was curious to see how cucumbers grow and I got scared when I saw that first one you pulled out!! LOL! I was starting to worry about what I have growing out back. :D Thanks!
Hey, great video..... good info... i got a ? i have a small space in the back and we have got some things planted.... i dont think the cucumbers are spaced enough apart will they be okay...??
all your videos are good.i am looking forward to some cucumbers this summer, this info should help allot. i never heard of cucumber relish i need to try that
2:30 Classic cucumber moment, when you've left them to grow just an extra day! I have NEVER seen a cuke that big in my life! What varieties do you grow? :)
Great video! I'm having a cucumber competition with my dad and I was wondering, do I have to use the mulch? Can I just let it grow in the soil? Thanks!
You don't have to use mulch, however it will help to retain the moisture in the soil as well as adding nutrients. You can use lots of things as mulch, even old newpaper, carpet, leaves etc. Good luck with the competition!
You could easily grow them in a pot on your deck. I have another vine growing out of a pot by accident (seed was in the compost) and I just let it grow. That one is just running along the ground, but could be easily trained up a trellis as in the video. Mine is only in a small 8" pot. Thanks for the comment.
Hey good point, I'm just building my chicken coop (video coming soon).....does that mean with my ripe cucumbers as chicken food I have ended up with the egg before the chicken?
That first cucumber would be the end of my marriage
