  • Anthony Hopkins best role.

  • @AspectRatioPolice I agree!

  • @42gpwwwii.....you probably listen to Beyonce, Justin Bieber and Mariah Carey, too...

  • that was so dum and stupid..........

  • @zenmachinefilms....so right! IT'S ALIVE tv spot teaser was horrifying to an 8 year old back then (me)!! That hideous scream--

  • I remember this from way back then! I could still quote the lines "presto chango, now he is me" and "magic is fun. We are dead." Only now, 30 years later, do I realize that Fats the dummy's face is made to look like Anthony Hopkins' face. Creeeeeepy!

  • Along with the teaser trailer for It's Alive, this was one of the most effective pee-your-pants chilling trailers during the 70s.

  • Gabrieldreamz_ sent me here.

  • @oldcreppy yeah i know that gabe guy, he is freaking totally hot

  • says a lot that no scenes shown in this ad.

bw ventriliquist movies were the best.

  • ypu should say what thate dummy says on halloween night it would be creepy and cool

  • This little trailer used to scare the crap out of me when I was a kid. But I used to love/hate it when It came on. It's STILL creepy!!!

  • Wow, I remember this scaring the crap out of me as a kid!

  • Remember the Twilight Zone episode w Cliff Robertson? Wacked out!!

  • I just watched tales from the crypt the ventriloquists dummy SHIT ME UP, its properly disturbing :S

  • Scared the shit outta me when I was a kid.

  • This commercial used to scare the hell out of me!!! I'm glad to read that I'm not the only one!!!

  • My kids asked me what used to scare me when I was little.I told them there was this commercial for a movie called "magic" that was one of the scariest things ever. I then decided we should try to find it on You Tube. It still freaks me out, but we watch it over and over.

  • I didn't need to sleep this year.

  • ...I told my kids how this commercial used to scare me sooo bad as a kid. I showed it to my 13 year old and my little 6 year old to see if they would think it was scary. It didn't even phase them. My 6 year old thought it was funny!!! I was like Oh my Gosh! Kids now a day are sooo desensitised!!!

  • This scared the crap out of me as a child. I'd be sitting in front of the tv set watching a show then THIS commercial would come on. I'd have to cover my eyes! But of course, I'd have to peek and then be scared to go to bed afterwards. To this day I HATE PUPPETS!!! They really creep me out!!!

  • Alright....that's scared the crap outta me

  • Reminds me of Slappy!!! scary!!!

  • This trailer alone is scarier than most full length horror movies today.

  • the 70's had the best horror films ever!

80's horror films became gory and the focus turned into blood, eyes popping out, zombies eating brains and so on.... in the 90's horror films became too technologically advanced to be even scary.... the horror films today are mostly remakes of 70's horror films!

  • There's a right way and a wrong way to do TV spots for thriller movies. This is the right way. Nowadays, it's the wrong way and the suspense they advertise comes off as diluted.

  • I do say that I think I have shat myself.

  • I had night terrors because of this....I finally beat it!!!! Fuck that doll !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Am i the only one who thinks the dummy looks like Slappy from Goosebumps?

  • @Retrofanatic10 hahaha that's exactly what i thought

  • @Retrofanatic10 maybe thats where RL got the inspiration from?

  • This was the best period for horror & suspense films

  • very few things ever scared me at 8 years old....this was one of them!

  • Fuck you Fats!!!!!!! I'm not afraid of you anymore!!!!!!! I've faced you again! Yet somehow after all these years, you're still here! Thanks for fucking up my childhood! LOL!!!!!!

  • @icr97. Your not Alone !!! Dude this fucking commercial !!! Fucking do me in!!! No bullshit!!! It would fuck up my whole nite!!!! Hell I couldn't look at the newspaper ad!!!!!!!!! This shot and the fucking shinning trailer !!!!!! Omfg!!!!!!!! Lmfao

  • Easily the scariest 30-second trailer ever. Or maybe I'm just fucking creeped out by this type of thing.

  • hahaha the voice killed it for me haha cant..... stop.....laughing!!

  • I thought this was very creepy when it came out. I used to really scare my little brother by imitating this dummy.

  • Hello? Mr. Marbles?

  • Oh, Jesus... I think I just shat myself.

  • Seems as though we used to call them Coming Attractions when I was growing up. Oops. I ended with a preposition. Another destruction of the the English language. (Not meant to be mocking; just silly-must be the bourbon and the beer talking).

    a

  • I know a woman that looks exactly like the puppet. Same face.

  • Haha like the Goosebumps episode.

  • Just watched this movie.

F*CKIN 9 out of 10. Creepy as hell. Great performance by Hopkins.

  • Kill it with fire!

  • nightmare fuel at its worst

  • fuck man that still creeps the fuck outta me 33 years later

  • lol

  • Read book and saw movie when i was a kid. Fats was creepy, and the ending still makes me laugh!

  • They pulled this preview in the 70s because it confused and scared children.

  • i'm 14 and am thinking about watching this movie...is it too scary?????

  • @emmy62197 There are scary moments. It's more of a movie based on psychology as you'll see if you watch it. Careful.. you're only 14.. watching this movie might cause you to mature past your years in your taste for good movies unlike what we get today :)

  • @emmy62197 Scary as HEEEEELLL. You will shit out your own EYEZBALLLLLLZZZZ. I suggest you watch it double quick. And what the hell kind of dweeb asks if it is too scary, ya bloody wimp??!! Just watch it. On your own. In the dark. And leave the damn front door OPEEEEEEN!! TeeHee. ;D

  • I got a freakin Howdy Dudy dummy for Christmas that year. Needless to say, he got cramed to the bottom of the toy box and stayed there!

  • @wbelsha LMAO!! Don's blame you!!

  • This trailer scared the crap outta me as a kid.

  • @Comicbookfan1970 Same here.... had to turn off the TV every time it came on

  • they are to make a movie about magic and billy from dead silence that a be so scary

  • Went to this movie with my uncles as a kid. I'm 39 years old. It was playing at our theater in '78(?)

Needless to say this dummy scared the living SH*T out of me!!! lol.

I didn't sleep for a week. My uncles always LOVED to take me to see horror movies back then. If you had a guardian with you? You were in.

They took me to see ALIEN at 8 years old. American Werewolf in London? Yup! It was when they took me to The Thing with Kurt Russell that I was like "NO MORE!" "NOPE. I'm done!" (laughing)

  • This is the scariest doll I have ever seen.....

  • I hate dummies D:

  • jesus, all the computer generated "boogie" people and latex monsters havent scared me as much as that damn doll, i think that says something about how to scare people, less is more, but the second time around its just spooky

  • jesus, all the computer generated "boogie" people and latex monsters havent scared me as much as that damn doll, i think that says something about how to scare people, less is more

  • O_O i pissed myself

  • I didn't need to sleep this month anyway.

  • @JohnSmithAprilMay haha u r so right :)

  • Aw man. This trailer and Suspiria ('77) were the only ones that had me scurrying to my room hiding under the covers in fright. Totally had nightmares from this stuff. It's true though, this movie was more of a drama rather than horror, from what I remember. Nevertheless, the trailer and the movie posters were creeeeepy!

  • This movie is great but it is not scary it seems more like a drama. Dead silence now that's a scary movie

  • This was my first scary movie! Scared the F'ing hell out of me! Have not seen it since! In a strange way it makes me feel better that i am not the only one! I am thinking about watching it again!

  • I was around 4 or 5 when the previews for this movie would come on tv. It scared the crap out of me every time! I would run to my room. I had nightmares about it.

  • This movie is the reason I am terrified of all things clown, dummy or otherwise! It is still so scary as a 41 yr old, but i now see the brilliance that is Sir Hopkins! After seeing Silence, I thaught.. He tapped into the dummy!

  • At home when I was a kid living in the Bronx. Just happened to be home alone when this first aired. Turned on every light in that apartment as it scared the hell out me. The dummies face burned an image in my brain for months. Damn you fats!!!!

  • This ad used to scare the hell out of me as a kid. I would have to turn the sound down--that voice! This has to be the all-ugliest ventriloquist dummy ever created, and considering that they are all hideous, that's saying something.

  • It looks scary but this film's actually kind of sad.

  • Thanks for scaring the shit out of me as a kid Fats! (Great film though!)

  • Yep, I was 7, and that shit scared the living crap outta my ass!! I never liked dummies (and still don't) after seeing that shit!!!

  • Nobody knows Multi Personnal Disorder ? I just reassure you, the doll isn't malefic, it's just the incarnation of one's psychotic personnality owner.

  • This trailer will keep me away from this movie now O^O

  • "We" take her to bed? Maybe Corky would have better luck on dates if he stopped bringing the doll along for a threesome.

  • @ShellyDZ99

But the doll is the wingman!

  • Yes hellohshit....

  • Alot of these dolls freak me out!

  • @Thebearcat66 As well they should. There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than man could ever dream of. (Shakespeare)

  • kinds sounds like Bugs Bunny, Im going to have to buy this, its amazing

  • I recall seeing this commercial in 1978 when I was 10....and it scared the crap out of me!! Now that it is on Blu-Ray, I can finally buy it and watch it...for the first time! I'm so excited!!!

    Magic is Fun....We're DEAD!

  • O_O... (deap breath) ......AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • This trailer creeped me out as a kid!

  • @Masmosaic1

    Me too!

  • I THINK I JUST SHIT MY PANTS.

  • @EvilLordZim76 ROFL, yeah that thing is damn creepy.

  • the chilling violen music has allot to do with it also

  • My sister saw this as a child and it creeped her out, but I never saw it. Until now! I can see why it upset her.

  • These TV commercials scared me as a kid! I remembered them for years. I was a lifelong Anthony Hopkins fan after this movie!

I love all the creepy doll stuff --the Zuni doll from "Trilogy of Terror", "Dead Silence", the cool "Twilight Zone" and "Night Gallery" episodes from the 60's-70's, etc. If you get a chance, check out the movie "Dolls" (1986) -- a cool stop-action animation piece by the great evil-dollmeister Charles Band!

  • That little fucking doll commercial fucked me up when I was little. Specifically, I remember one time I was sitting in the living room with my older brother. He was watching TV and I was playing with a deck of cards. That shit came on and I threw the whole deck and started running.

  • he sounds like Bugs Bunny.

  • From Brazil

    Ann-Margret was very hot.

    What a beautiful woman!!!!

  • One of my favorite Anthony hopkins films.

  • I guess I wasn't the only one who was scared sh*tless of this commercial!! LOL Maaaaan, I'll never forget when I was a kid this commercial came on while I was watching TV with my older brothers and I quickly ran to my mother's room for an "escape/comfort"!! Only one thing....she was watching the VERY SAME CHANNEL!! Needless to say, I ran to the living room and covered my ears so I couldn't hear it!! Too funny!! Can't help but laugh now!!

  • THE WORD YOU'RE LOOKING FOR IS 'TEASER'. SO, IN THAT RESPECT,'TEASER TRAILER' WOULD FIT THE DECSRPTION THAT, I SUSPECT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR. NO WONDER THE ABOVE TRAILER WAS DROPPED BY SO MANY TV CHANNELS. IT'S EFFECTIVE, THOUGH I CAN SEE WHY IT TERRIFIED CHILDREN.

  • ahh, wtf! lol.

  • This movie so sad but true

  • i dont like that it scared me

  • i saw some of this as a kid back in the day. it was extremely scary to me. i still like the cheesy older movies. now its all HD, advertising, etc.

  • i hate those things!!! they are the scariest evil fking humanoid figures

  • I was scared shit-less of the trailer when I was a little boy!!!!

  • Trilogy of Terror is also another element born of Rod Serling's work. I think Rod was brilliantly dark and all of our now movie makers owe him much respect for the money that has been made on the bodies of what he left behind for them to feed on. If he had the CGI now available during his time, woooow boy!, none of these guys around now would be able to make a dime lol hahahaa

  • All your fears were born into your minds at the hands of Mr. Rod Serling..hahahahaha :) He did it first and he gave Steven Spielberg his start in directing, check it out...Night Gallery, Twilight Zone. This movie is a creature of his breathe and I think it was brilliant advertising, just wrong time period for what it packed in substance for an ill prepared era of kids and even adults at the time lol. All praise to Rod for his works of true terror without CGI or speed cameras.

  • I love this movie!

  • Even at twenty, this trailer FREAKED me out in 1978! But it started a lifelong love affair with Anthony Hopkins, so yay.

  • It looks to me as though there were two fats figures shown in the movie.

  • lol Lets DO THIS wow i only looked this up cause of spill.com

  • What is this LETS DO THIS!!! thing?

  • @kapat12724 it means they will watch it to see whats up

  • Brilliant Film, Hopkins' genius as an actor was evident and more of a psychological Thriller than horror. Sometimes reality is scarier than the Supernatural.

  • What IS is that is so scary about ventriloquist dummies? But they are! They are so creepy!

  • @jjhaywood: I agree; however, the dvd does have a good featurette about ventriloquism. One thing I did notice about the movie "Magic", is that it has many things in common w/ movie "Secret Window" starring Johnny Depp.

  • @hootyhaha: They r called "trailers" because, originally, they were shown "after" the main feature, but ppl would leave soon after the movie was over & not watch them; however, the name stuck, so now-a-days, they show them "before" the feature film, but they're still called "trailers."

  • This has got to be the scariest tv spot on earth!!! It still shocks me, even in my adulthood!! TV spots...they just don't make 'em like this anymore.

  • Hey old movies are the best for me because today is like noone doesnt know what to create or make up on movies now in days

  • It honestly wasn't a very good movie.

  • @jjhaywood i just watched it and i think it was a very well made film. Great acting and great story

  • Sad But True by Metallica was inspired by this

  • holy shit i remember this! i only saw like 30 mins of it on TV, i cant remember it well or anything but yeah...

  • This shit use to scare me!! I was 8 and I'm glad I'm not alone!!!

  • Thanks for posting this! I was 11 when I first saw it. It came on during M*A*S*H at about 10:00 at night. It scared me so bad, but I watched it every time it came on. I still haven't seen the movie though. Too scary

  • This was another trailer that used to scare the shit out of me. The lighting and tense music are brilliant.

  • People something that comes before a movie is PREVIEWING the movie. It can not be a trailer if it COMES BEFORE. Even in the PREVIEWS, it says "THE FOLLOWING PREVIEW." Why do you all insist so much on continuing to screw up the English language. That's why people continue to dumb down, nobody TAWKS RIGHT! Gon on though, continue being a bunch of tards and screwing up the meaning of the English language, this hasn't been the only word. No wonder Education is hurting. This was the final straw.

  • Clearly the final straw in terms of the destruction of the English language is the misuse of the terms "trailer" and "preview".

Whoops, had my "anal-retentive fuckwad" hat on. Let's try that again. Movie trailers, or "previews", are so named because they were originally shown after the end of a movie. This practice quickly changed, because everyone in the theatre would leave before the trailers would start. Still, the name stuck, and now the terms are interchangeable.

  • @dancingmakesbabies I'm glad that the previews are before the movie now because then when I'm late..I usually haven't missed any of the movie.

  • @dancingmakesbabies thank you, you learn something new every day.

  • @dancingmakesbabies So, you are saying PREviews, too , were shown at the same time as the trailers? Hmmm... I don't think you have your "anal retentive fuckwad" hat on tight enough!!!!!!!!!!

  • @dancingmakesbabies just because they are not shown at the end of movies doesnt mean they are not trailers. does it really matter when a trailer is shown to determine it being a trailer, im sure if you look up the English language word trailer, you'll probably see that theres no mention of it being at the end of a movie.

  • Still hunting for this movie

    Let's Do This!

  • i still have to see this fuckin movie

  • always love going to these videos and seeing all these spill comments

  • look at all the spill members lol, LETS DO THIS!

  • hahahha LETS DO THIS!!! thats why i watched the trailer:)

  • is it just me or dose he sound like bugs bunny alittle?

  • LETS DO THIS!!!

  • LETS DO THIS!

  • lets do this!!!

  • LDT!

  • Who could win in a fight? This dummy or Goatse?

  • goatse he would kill him with his hoofs

  • He could be Scarface in the new Batman movie

  • Looks like you listen to Let's Do this Tacom4ster ;)

  • Yes I do

  • This was on television last year...good movie...any movie with a talking doll gets to me.

  • First saw this trailer at age 9 during the '78 Gator Bowl (where Woody Hayes' went nuts and punched a Clemson player).

  • Do you know 'Slappy the Dummy' in the R.L. Stine books? He was the dummy that started my fear of dummies.

  • OMFG ME TOO LOL.

  • Still the scariest thing I've ever seen, relatively speaking. I used to be so terrified of this thing.

  • The trailer got to me, not the movie. At the time I was thinking there would be something supernatural about the dummy.

  • Comment removed

  • its not that creepy i have three ventriloquists dolls

  • I have one hard figure and one soft puppet. my next character will be a hard figure

  • I remember this commercial terrifying me as a child. When it would air on TV, I would close my eyes and cover my ears.

About 10 years later I saw the movie and loved it. It wasn't a horror movie as much as a psychological thriller. But very gripping and entertaining

  • I remember seeing this trailer when I was five, thinking it was the most disturbing thing I had ever seen. When I finally saw the movie on HBO a year or two later, I was a little disappointed but I guess I wasn't old or sophisticated enough to really appreciale the plot of the movie. Thanks for posting.

  • The trailer was scarier than the movie.

  • I remember this and I think after watching it again thirty one years later I may have nightmares tonight

  • bizzare trailer

  • This movie freaked me out as a kid.

  • Me too!!

  • I have been practicing ventriloqusm since I was 6 I am 14 now and I got a new one that looked like that 1 a few months ago. I thought it was so cute, I used it every day . yesterday I saw this movie for the first time and ill use another dummy angain! I threw away all of my dummies, and I like 19 of em!

  • I remember this. It would certainly give small children nightmares...

  • This trailer was pulled from circulation because it gave kids nightmares.

  • This trailer made me sleep with my head under the covers for years and caused a massive bout of phobia for dummies. This is the first time I've watched the it for 30 years.

  • I think his Bugs Bunny voice is what did children in. O.o

  • This was the movie where Ann Margaret did her first nude scen... if I recall, a rear shot.....

  • I believe you are thinking of Carnal Knowledge which came several years earlier.
