Hey guys calm down. Neither one of you was there but I tend to favor DesireG. What does it tell you when the President has to step in and be a mediator? Number two: What is the protocol when a Police man stops you and asks a question? This is too simple for an argument. Geeeez.
I I don't care what color you are. your views are still slanted and immature and present no validity. Losers resort to name calling, verbal abuse and even physical abuse when they can't win an argument. Being Black does excuse you from being a fucking idiot. You need to start with your own image and apparent self loathing. Grow up and learn how to present your view with some maturity.
I don't care what your race is. But your level of intelligence leaves much to be desired in a real intellectual discussion. School yard bullying will not win the argument. Name calling reveals more about yourself and even less about me. To the back of the class you must go.
"Being black does excuse you from being a fucking idiot."
Do you know how incredibly stupid that was? Congratulations, everything you said has been automatically rendered devoid of credibility. Not to mention this entire comment here I'm replying to applies entirely to you. Sad.
Here what I know White people for centuries have made race the issue. Not the other way around. Slavery was based on race. Jim Crow laws were based on race. Education based on race. Job Opportunities based on race. Marriage based on your race. Where you live base on race. And the woeful response to Katrini based on race. Perception is everything ain't it? You played the race card I just responded to it. How about that? I bet you got some choice names for me based on race. It is what it is .
What ya mad at? I ain't playing the victim I'm just standing up to you & your racist vile. And lots of white men walking around acting like asses. Is that reason enough to cuff them?Should you be cuffed? The Cop went over board. No law was broken. And yeah you set yourself up to choose leaders in a community you know nothing about. There are very few who look to you for approval in choosing their leaders. You did lump all blacks in the same mode.Look how you are trying fit me in your pre-fab box.
LOL! Now I'm the racist? Man, you're getting desperate. You can prove that in the least. You know the white men who do act like asses in front of cops also get arrested to, right? Do you even know what the fuck "disorderly conduct" means? Oh, I forgot, you're too much of a retard to see past your bias.
Protip, you don't know shit about the law, so fuck off and stop acting as though you do.
Yes, a law WAS broken. You didn't even read the report, so you don't know what you're talking about.
Here are the facts: Gates followed the officer outside his home and started acting out of control in front of a crowd. I'm Massachusetts, that satisfies every ground for the officer to arrest someone for disorderly conduct. It's the law. Don't like it? Tough.
Everybody who has heard the tape by now knows the officer is a jerk. He (Gates) showed two pieces of ID. Established proof of Identity and proof of residency. He was on the phone with the Home Owners Association when the officer arrived. And I dunno the luggage at the door? "Car 54 where are You?" Yeah the officer could have handled it differently.
Are you fucking stupid? Gates was arrested for disorderly conduct, his proof of ownership was a non-issue at that point. Anyone who listened to the tapes know it was Gates that was the jerk. You're just a complete fucking idiot.
Oooh I guess your white and that explains every thing right down to the name calling. Cheap shot what all low lifes do when they are losing an argument. Now really who is the fucking idiot? You need to start with your mirror. I bet you beat women too.
I didn't lose the argument. I just don't believe in name calling to win a argument. I don't have to sink as low as you. I can present my views without name calling. I don't care what color you are. your views are still slanted and immature and present no validity
LOL, just accept that you lost. Accept it. You have no right to talk about validity when every single comment you made is racially biased and full of nonsensical talking points that anybody with a scintilla of common sense would look upon with pity. I was calling you a name because that's simply what you are. Accept it.
Gates was arrested and guess what ALL charges were dropped within hours. That speaks for it self. INNOCENT don't sound stupid to me. Can you make the connection? Think that's right THINK. it's not a new concept. Try it.
You know why the charges were dropped? Because Gates is a high level academic who used his status to cheat the system. The only one not thinking here is you. Of course, simple conclusions are usually made by the simple minded like you. Fail.
Here is what I know that you think you are the great white father who has the ability to think and judge people you don't know. If you are familiar with Prof. Gates work you would know he is far more conservative that Rev Sharpton. But because they are black you lump them into the same mold.
You have no right to choose leaders for others. You sound self righteous and pompous to boot. If there are people who choose Rev Sharpton to speak for them I ain't mad with them.
Theres no doubt that racism exists and always wil. Humans naturally tend to favor their own to different degrees. It seems though that black people think that the race issue is 'theirs'. The only racism that counts is racism towards blacks. Farrakan and Jesse Jackson can make anti-semitic remarks, but that doesnt count. Because they have been 'oppressed' they have a certain right to be racist but not have it considered racist. Black leaders need to stop with the double standard
Again you lump all blacks in the same boat. I wouldn't think to lump all whites in the same. That would be presumptuous and bigoted. Would Bill Cosby choose Sharpton to speak for him. I don't think so. Would Eddie Murphy choose Sharpton to speak for him. Cornell West? Samuel Jackson? You see the poor very poor who have no voice like Sean Bell, Amadou Diallo, Patrick Dorismond, Micheal Stewart. And so many others who didn't have a voice not even human rights.Their families needed a voice.
No cop in his right mind would ever disagree on this publicly but in private circles they think this cop had a knee jerk reaction. Back in the day his locker would have pasted with pictures old black men waiting for him to handcuff. Everybody showed up to back him up and all they found was a cranky old man mad with himself for locking himself out. Gates was arrested to save this cop's face.
Maybe the officer did overreact. However, its because Gates acted a fool, not because he is black. People like Sharpton and now Gates have been shown to throw race into every thing. If there was no race issue, what would Sharpton do for a living? He tries to appear like hes trying to help race relations when in reality he is perpetuating problems for his own agenda. He is a liar and a hypocrite.
Yeah the Officer overacted. Could imagine what went through Prof. Gates mind when all those squad cars pulled up? It look like a set up at best and lynch mob at the most. Your inability to think outside the box shows through you can only see from the righteous white man with rights over people of color. In fact you will be their Judge & Jury. And if a Black man is dead no matter what the circumstances it must be a good thing. Too many black people are familar with your type.
Just like Gates, you think you are a mind reader. Dont tell me what I think. Gates was acting like an old fool long before the squad cars pulled up. In fact thats why they came! A set up?? You are just proving my point with your paranoid victim mentality. Gates was arrested for acting like an ass, not because he was black. He needs to man up and admit that. Instead though, he hides behind the race issue. Accept responsiblility for your actions. Stop blaming it on race.
Wrong dude. No civil rights violated here. If someone that angry and out of control goes off to commit a crime, get in a car accident etc because of that rage, then the police are held responsible. That's why every single member of law enforcement community are essentially calling Gates and Obama idiots.
Calling for back up and so much of it for an old cranky man was a bit much and I am sure Gates probably blew a gasket when he saw all those squad cars outside. Strongly voicing your mind is not against the law. A bunch of white men showing up at your house to drag you outside wow! What do you think went through his mind?
1)Well, as I mentioned it depends on what the laws are in that town. Evidently Gates acted out of control enough for them to arrest him. They have laws like this on the books to prevent riots etc. Even though someone may not be physically violent, they can still be out of control. Either way, the cop was coming to protect Gates property. Gates had no reason to cry racism but did anyway. Who knows, he may have seen an opportunity and decided to orchestrate it. It is how he makes his living.
Out of control? You mean for a black man? I have seen white folks go off on the police and not be arrested. But then you believe is you heard. I just don't think you should judge him. And further While I have my differences with Al Sharpton he gives voice to those who might not be heard. I respect that. You can't be the great white father and choose your puppet. Remember the Shah of Iran? Marcos? You can look down on those who have no voice and use Al Sharpton's. I ain't mad at him.
NO! Not for a black man. For a man. You see, this s the exact problem. Oh it happened cause he was black, not cause he did anything wrong. Stuff like this happens every day. The only reason it got national attention is because Gates brought racism into it. 'Oh hes not coming here to make sure my house isnt being broken into, hes coming here to harass me because I am black'. People like Sharpton and Gates have their whole livelyhood based in perpetuating racism- so everything becomes racial
2)There is no doubt Gates will benefit from this careerwise and monetarily. Hes already talking about a related documentary and he'll probably write a book. In his own mind, he'll bless the day that Crowley showed up at his door. Its sad that someone who purports to try to improve race relations does something like this and actually sets them back. On top of that he will profit from it. Its akin to Al Sharpton. Sharpton needs to keep the hate going or otherwise he has no job.
I think hind sight is 20/20 he will write a book but check this out it won't be his first one. And he is already an established intelectual. You would be surprise at how much insight he has. I do believe the officer blew it up. He was not in danger.
I just think they both got into a pissing war.
Believe me the man with the gun is always the bigger dick.
All those squad cars for an old man? get real. I know Gates did. As for as Law enforcement goes ever hear of the Blue wall?
No doubt Gates is a smart guy. Theres a difference though in being educated and being wise Gates should have been wise enough to take the high road. HE turned it into a racial situation from the beginning because he has a chip on his shoulder. He should have realized the cop was coming to protect HIS property (which by the way the door was jammed because of a prior breakin attemptlol) At best Gates overreacted. Atworst Gates used this as an opportunity to advance his career.Either way he benefits
Are you familiar with the laws of Cambridge and know what constitutes disorderly conduct? If not then you dont know if there was an arrestable offense. The cop was walking into a possibly dangerous situation. For his own personal safety he asked Gates to step outside. Gates refused. He tried to assertain that Gates lived there by asking him for ID. Gates refused. Gates clearly could have cooperated and this wouldnt have happened.
i am, i encourage you you read up on them. i also encourage you to read office crowleys official report on the arrest. once you do so you'll understand that not only was there no crime and no arrest needed, officer crowley also violated the 1st and 4th amendments rights of henry gates.
1)Well I dont know where I could get access to read up on them. YOu live there? You have access to read them? I did read the police report. Like I said, I'm not familiar with what constitutes disorderly conduct there. I do know this: The cop went there to investigate a possible B&E not to harass a black guy.His job was to assure the protection of Gates property-which had an attempted break in recently by the way. (cont)
2)IMO Gates got offended that the officer asked him for ID and didnt just take his word for it. Perhaps he is a little self important and figured everyone in the area should know who he is? I dont know. I realize that police abusing power is a problem in this country. I also realize that people are way too quick to cry racism in cases like this. Whether he was lawfully arrested or not is for a court to decide. However, if Gates had cooperated from the start this never would have happened.
I don't believe Gates orchestrated this event for politcal gain. I believe he showed 2 pieces of ID and proof of residency. He might not have been in the best of moods which is understandable after a long day of travel. The cop had established Gates Indentity listen to the tape. Then went to his car and called for back up from 2 precints. When all those squad cars showed up to arrest a cranky old man who was unarmed and non-violent the line was crossed.Psst off is not the same as violent.
