runner: IMO price was a factor too. In the 70's Japanese cars were not only better, but much cheaper. Today, quality is the primary issue. I grew up in Michigan where everybody's dad worked on the GM assembly line. I could tell you some real horror stories about worker mischief and disloyalty which would have impacted quality; it was virtually impossible to fire them. But, I admit, the main reason for poor quality is poor design and mgt must take the blame.

I could lay a couple of hundred block a day.I've laid lock block.All sizes. It's easy if you work 100 days a year. You obviously have never painted. I would love to see you move a 40' ladder all day.Work on a crew where you do everything yourself. Boy you know nothing about work. It is so obvious.
