The US Sherman tanks were attacking a German position behind enemy lines so it was possible those German soldiers did not have any anti-tank weapons available to knock out the Sherman tanks
Folks - OK, let's forget for a minute the plot has big enough holes to drive a M1A3 through - it's a comedy and a dang funny one at that! The scene later in the movie when Don Rickles and someone else blow up the barracks with the sacthel charge, and they wind up in an outhouse getting covered in...well, you know....was so funny, that it took me literally 5 showings before I could hear the line, since the audience and me were laughing too hard!

And those are just pea shooters to the shermans. now if they had Panzerschrecks or Panzerfausts, they might have stood a chance.

Most Anti-tank guns would of been re-comissioned to be at the front lines, and most weapons would of also of been transported their

@pehmomarsu Taking the situation into account, they totally got taken with their pants down, and fought back as best they could. Suddenly being assaulted by the enemy far beyond where they are supposed to be, it's doubtful that they would have all the gear needed to repulse them.
@DarthMual1000 Could damage the optics on the tanks, allowing for me to run up with grenades or be able to disable tanks physicality though jamming stuff into the exhaust etc..
@178thbattlegroup Because this is a movie that is meant to be most entertaining. Even in this scene you can spot several other and even greater errors than Germans not having panzerfaust or even hand grenades, it's just meant to look good and funny.
However, in real life at allied assault stage, especially in Russian front that kind of incidents tend to happen. Germans (and Russians) just run out of ammunition and/or fuel and next they were fighting tanks with rifles.

Nope. If you've watched the Movie, Oddball Explains that they're 76.2 MM Gun with their Barles enlarged so that the Germans would think it is a 90MM Gun. a Firefly looks totally differant. Thank for Watching ! =)

@ThePanzerWarMachine wel i own the movie myself and watch it often, odball also shows kelly the pipe he uses to enlarge the barrel, it is not fitted here, if i remember correctly these shermans were upgunned with the 76 mm when the korean war broke out, but due to firstly the the easy eight model and later on m26 and m46 tanks there was no use for them so they were mostly sold or scrapped together with the easy eights
