I thought about using this technique for my short film, but finally opted for adding CGI rain after shooting. At first I was hoping for real rain, I got some but doesnt always look how you want it to on camera. I wish I had a more controllable set to use this technique. On the bright side I learned a lot about particular in After Effects.

I don't think i'll have enough funding to make a "rain machine" large enough to fit the entire frame (roughly 20 feet wide). Is there a way to only make rain above the subjects and then fill in the rest of the frame using special effects?
