now union carbide alias DOW chemicals is sponsoring the London Olympics ! not a single $ has been spent on cleaning the chemicals still polluting Bhopal even after 2 decades !!
The CEO and management are ultimately responsible, and they should ALL go to jail for the rest of their lives, for allowing this to happen.
Beyond any shadow of a doubt, this was an immense scale of complete corporate negligence, once again caused by a company that placed profit over safety and human life.
It always comes down to the money, and overall corporate greed...
3000 dead and the cunt of a CEO says it all (17:50) when he smiles at the camera and says 'hi mom'..these bastards couldnt give a fuck about the people..probably get off on the thought of causing so much suffering..and guys like that are running countries, banking cartels justice systems the whole lot..thats why they dont get charged they are all as bad as one another..they all stand together..jail is too good for him push him into a vat of his chemicals
While I wholly condemn the negligence of Union Carbide, and especially their failure to adequately compensate the victims, let's also remember that it was the Indian Authorities that licensed that plant, approved it's location, and were responsible for oversight of it's regulatory compliance.
As well as, being the ones who co-operated in the subsequent cover-up, and who also failed to demand any kind of meaningful compensation for the victims.
they keep calling this an accident, it wasn't a fucking accident, it was a disaster. Union Carbide knew they had skipped safety proceedures, they did this on purpose to save money, they didn't care about the consequences.
Methyl Isocynate is a very dangerous chemical, as this proved. It also proves that chemical plants and pesticide factories do not belong near populated areas.
i read this on wiki As a highly toxic and irritating material, it is hazardous to human health, and was involved in the Bhopal disaster which killed nearly 8,000 people initially and approximately 20,000 - 30,000 people in total
One shocking thing is that there is a way of greatly slowing down poising by MIC. Cover your mouth with a wet towel. If they had done that the people could have survived.
@MrMarinus18 Yes, but no one knew this. Union Carbide never really told anyone in the area what to do in the event of a catastrophe. Not even the hospitals knew.
When a factory works with highly dangerous chemicals in close enough vicinity of populated areas to cause serious damage the local people should be instructed what to do. Also the hospitals should have lists of exactly what chemicals could be hazerdous and what to do about it. Nobody had any idea of what to do; either to prevent it or to cure it.
If this isn't a justification for terrorism against America for not shutting down this company and jailing the bosses involved, I don't know what is. If I was Indian, I'd be crying death to America
this would have never happened in a "Western" location. Just because this one was located in a then "3rd world" country, they didn't are. Happy to hear they are not allowed to sponsor the 2012 Olympics in London. They have changed their name to Dow Chemicals now
these workers should have known something was wrong from the start how careless could they be!?they killed a freakin shitload of people and now its jsut so tragic i hope nothing like this ever happens again
@Int3rvent1on Just that in this case, it's not just bullshit, its a massive conspiracy to try to 'cover up' mass-3rd-degree-murder, with all the american business suites and politicians involved knowing its murder, but bend over to the mighty $.
Typical union hack! Yea, the company may be trying to save money but he won't blame any action on the workers. By admission of their own mouth say they slacked off. It is company fault all around labor and management
the issue wasnt the gas itself it was when the gas mixes with water that it becomes toxic and that was what was killing people. the gas without the water is not toxic.. its not good but it wouldn't kill you.. or so ive been lead to believe
@Int3rvent1on Watch the seismic seconds epsode about Bhopal, it is on youtube, and it explains how MIC in gas form without water can cause a terrible and painful way to die. Due to the fact that it can vaporise at the temperature of the human body. Causing liquidation of a persons lungs, very much like the other gas being used at the plant, Phosgene.
@eggggggplants That is not entirely true, if MIC reacts with the human body it can enter the bloodstream then the lungs causing the lungs to deteriorate and the person will drown in their own fluids. MIC reacts to the human body in much the same way as phosgene does, a toxic gas released by the germans in WWI, which is how the '7' pesticide was created, by using phosgene and Methylisocyanate to manufacture the pesticides.
@eggggggplants btw the issue is that the vapour comes into contact with water *in the human body* and becomes hazardous. Presumably you're implying that the act of them spraying water on the gas was harmful - which is not the case.
why are they changing what the guy says in the close captions, he's perfectly easy to hear, there's no need to translate and also translate wrong

that's another thing they should have done.

I heard of what happened vaguely....but my God. What negligence.
What lack of conscience.
Perhaps in the end of the world (if we should cause it) money and cost cutting will be our downfall.

@eggggggplants yeah, thats right, it was shortcutting that lead to water coming into contact with the gas and causing a massive reaction
