if i can join in on this argument, i have owned a 2g and a 3g. i always hated the 3g's because i always thought they weren't "real" eclipses. to me, anything that wasn't equipped with a 4g63-t wasn NOT an eclipse. that was until i bought a supercharged eclipse GT. while straight out of the box, i'm goin with a GSX over a GTS, don't sleep on the GT/GTS. the 2g is more tuner friendly, but the 3g has alot of potential that nobody really sees
Enthusiasts go for 2nd gens b/c one, they just look better, 2 the GSX was AWD and turbo, 3 tuner friendly. 3rd gens came because Mitsu went away from Diamond Star Motors (DSM) and became Mitsubishi Motors. Because they did that, Mitsu isn't doing well business-wise. They figured the 3rd gen and 4th gen would save their asses. Granted the 4th gens come 260hp? That at the crank anyone know? But the downside is that it is FWD and N/A. That is why most Eclipse enthusiasts go for the 2nd gen DSM's.

Well, fine, you've got me there, so what if the GST is a whole half a second faster to 0-60. But, as a whole, the 3G's are faster, i'd argue, than the 2G's, because our base models are significantly faster than the 2G's. Also, we're only a tiny bit slower than GST's when it comes to 0-60. I'd rather go with the V6 in the 3G anyways, you can always swap in a 3.5L block, lower compression, stroke it to 4.0L, and turbocharge it, and smoke the living guts from the 2G.

To me, the 3rd generation appeals a lot. Simply because there is a 3.5L V6 drop-in engine, from the mitsubishi diamante. when tuned, with I/H/E, you can get the car into low 14's, high 13's, which isn't bad at all. And thats just a NA build. A couple members from Club3G are trying to turbocharge the 3.5, which would DEFINITELY make for one killer ride.
well yeah they are more tuner friendly than say the 4gs but those come stock low 14s thats why they appealed to me. and because my freind had a 3g gt and tried to run a hundred shot wet and blew his engine. but that was because he was a retard i think.didnt have it properly tuned
Yeah, theres many people blowing their engines. Plus, unless the V6 block is built, it wouldn't be good for anything forced induction related. Thats where the GS/RS models of the 3G come into play. Many have said the stock engine can take up to 15 psi and run for a long time.
It is, in theory, a stroked SOHC evo engine, without the turbo. Some members have reached past 350 whp with 15 psi on Club3G. These engines are very turbo-friendly. In fact, some people say that they were planned as turbo cars from Mitsubishi, but Mitsubishi needed to cut costs, so they left the engine NA.
Many people don't consider the 3G a great performance platform. But, since the ECU can be flashed to an EVO ECU, it leaves SO many possibilities open. People need to start looking at the 3G with a bigger perspective, to me it is a very diverse platform, from built, supercharged V6's to turbo'd inline 4's.

I'd rather go with the V6 in the 3G anyways, you can always swap in a 3.5L block, lower compression, stroke it to 4.0L, and turbocharge it, and smoke the living guts from the 2G.

BTW, the GT model pulls on a GSX. Its just not favored by enthusiasts because of it not being as tuner-friendly.

To me, the 3rd generation appeals a lot. Simply because there is a 3.5L V6 drop-in engine, from the mitsubishi diamante. when tuned, with I/H/E, you can get the car into low 14's, high 13's, which isn't bad at all. And thats just a NA build. A couple members from Club3G are trying to turbocharge the 3.5, which would DEFINITELY make for one killer ride.

well yeah they are more tuner friendly than say the 4gs but those come stock low 14s thats why they appealed to me. and because my freind had a 3g gt and tried to run a hundred shot wet and blew his engine. but that was because he was a retard i think.didnt have it properly tuned

Yeah, theres many people blowing their engines. Plus, unless the V6 block is built, it wouldn't be good for anything forced induction related. Thats where the GS/RS models of the 3G come into play. Many have said the stock engine can take up to 15 psi and run for a long time.

It is, in theory, a stroked SOHC evo engine, without the turbo. Some members have reached past 350 whp with 15 psi on Club3G. These engines are very turbo-friendly. In fact, some people say that they were planned as turbo cars from Mitsubishi, but Mitsubishi needed to cut costs, so they left the engine NA.

Many people don't consider the 3G a great performance platform. But, since the ECU can be flashed to an EVO ECU, it leaves SO many possibilities open. People need to start looking at the 3G with a bigger perspective, to me it is a very diverse platform, from built, supercharged V6's to turbo'd inline 4's.
