Let's totaly forget that joplin missouri is smack dab in the center of tornado alley and they have tornadoes every single year in that area. Alabama / missisippi is also very prone to tornadoes, because that is "dixie" alley. It's just as tornadic as the central us but dixie alley covers a smaller area, basicly only 3 states.
