  • Great! :D

  • im playing this in my band class... except a little dirrfent. maybe diffrent music :P same idea though :) good job guys.

  • definatly not enough low end too top-heavy

  • I love all this bitching... Right, if its a British style brass band there are NO trumpets. Only cornets. In some American Brass bands they use trumpets instead. British style also don't use French horns, they use tenor horns.

Not a bad recording atal btw :)

  • @MrHarvey17 tenors horns are soooo much better then french

  • @melove7up I'm afraid I disagree with you there but each too their own :) You should have a listen too this Vienna Horns-director's cut-pirates of the Caribbean. Is brilliant and might change your mind :)

  • Great Job!

  • we learn this song this year cant wait

  • nice bass in it cornets are kindof pitchy

  • Love this song! Our brass band plays it a lot of the time, and it's just so fun to play. Your version seems more jazzed-up than ours though :(

Also, well done on that bit at about 0:48. In the piece we have, it's the solo cornet section that plays it, and I don't think anyone really appreciates exactly how hard it is, even though it sounds simple.

But well done, this is a brilliant version! :)

  • We do it in our festival it was so great..

  • seriously, that sounds like a studio recording. very well played and recorded. do the have a CD?

  • Well, no offence, but we play a harder version of this with the youth of the band i play in.

The high notes on cornet were pretty good.

  • Dude every band has a trumpet unless they are only woodwinds.

  • @wilshire1992 wtf brass bands have only conical bore brass instruments in apart from trombones and percussion

  • @stu1552 Cornet is like a Trumpet. There is a difference but not much. I play Euphonium and everyone calls it a baritone. Does it really matter? Yes in away. But you can replace a trombone with a baritone yet not a Euphonium. And I have played in brass bands with Trumpets. So before you go off thinking your always right maybe you should shove it.

  • @wilshire1992 well i play in a british-style brass band (which only have conical bore instruments apart from trombone)- i dont know if your band has a different format but we have a traditional british one- see grimethorpe colliery and Black dyke Mills-and the only reason why u can replace trombones with baritones is because they are the closest thing as they are more of a cylindrical bore instrument than a euphonium- so maybe u should play in some higher level bands before u tell me to shove it

  • You people leaving negative comments are rude! What's the point in that?

So you say you can do it better? Post your own video and let's see.

It's a live performance and recorded from the side.

It was a fine live performance in my opinion.

  • A proper brass band doesn't have trumpets but if it's just a brass ensemble then you can have trumpets and french horns etc

  • @Spugsy I agree, proper brass has cornets.

I never see trumpets and French horns in proper brass bands

  • @Spugsy what you mean a proper band doesnt have trumpets? DCI has trumpets. its mainly brass in DCI.

  • What the fuck is with that xylophone??? I'm a xylophonist and that is way too loud... Over powers the rest of the band!

  • @pianogenius2006 On cameras like this they pick up the Xylophone more. Our band our Xylophone was quite but you can hear it over the band on the recording.

  • @wilshire1992 Ah fair enough... That I can understand...

  • brass bands use cornets traditionaly, sometimes trumpets are used to show-boat their lead cornet player or in a jazzy rendition , the trumpet is only used in a brass band as a status symbol for the lead cornet player especialy when the sop* cornet has a crazy counter harmony that over powers everyone else xD ....but who knows,,,,every band is different,,, not everyone sticks to tradition :P

  • Cornets.

  • got 2 admit it sounds terrible my band's just been demoted to 4th section an we can play tht better thn tht no offence

  • @007wannabee right, you're band is a 4th section band...therefore you havent really got any room to criticise any band's performances.

  • don't get long cornets mixed up with trumpets.

  • I agree with Cazzay16

I'm playing for 7 years now and a Brassband shouldn't have trumpets.

I'm playing in 2 different ones and I've never seen any trumpets in a brassband.

I know what I'm talking about.

  • that sounds terrible!!!

  • ummm trumpets are not nearly exactly the same as cornets if they were then there wouldnt be any point in making both of them. duhhh! im a grade 8 trumpet and cornet player. cornets have a softer tone than trumpets and trumpets are easyer to play than cornet coz it has less tubingg to go thru hence the harsh sound and the higher notes and a pocket trumpet is in a completely diff key to a Bb trumpet and Bb cornett.i suggest you get a new trumpet teacher coz your teacher obviously knows nothinggg.

  • dam that was toooooo slow..

  • and to point out the trumpet/cornet issue... from a musician who has lived and played in Liverpool, Vancouver and California...

in the US true brass band dosent exist and trumpet is the primary soprano voiced brass used,

if there is a brass ensemble it is 90% played on a Bb or C trumpet, some challengeing parts on a D or Eb trumpet.

the Cornet is reguarded as a colour instrument used mainly in jazz for the warmer, richer sound

  • the Eb cornet sounds really tired, especially up there in the hits

  • In one word! UNLISTENABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • right i have to point out what many people are saying

THERE ARE NO TRUMPETS IN A BRASS BAND!!!!!!!!

take it from a grade 8 trumpet and cornet player!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

listen to what ive sed!!!! NO TRUMPETS IN BRASS BAND YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT OBVIOUSLY and this band isnt good for the age these people are i agree :)

  • take youngblood brass band, two trumpets. a normal british brass band. loads a trumpets and cornets. in other words, there are trumpets in brass bands

  • ummm there arn't supposed to be trumpets in a brass band !!!!! listen to what im saying ive played trumpet and cornet for 10 years i know what im talking about so no there is not!! are you a brass playerrr coz if you are then your pretty thick then. cornets for brass band trumpets for orchestras!!!! listen you fool..... youngblood brass band is stupid for having trumpets in it thats probably why they are crap!

  • youngblood isn't a brass band for one it has a tenor sax and an Mc/rap .. and this its a terrible band i would no ..i play for South Yorkshire police brass band and also renegade brass band (which is like youngblood) and no by the ruling of the British brass bands association there are not meant to be trumpets in brass bands has they are from the USA

  • i agree with the dude who says west glam are better!!! we are thank you!!!! XD

  • next somebody will be saying a flugle horn is a trumpet

  • Good one!!

  • @vintner1941 I hope you're making a joke :p

  • @vintner1941 but it is ><

  • I've played this exact arrangement with my brass band. I think it's a good performance. I do understand why "CriticalNin3R" would mistake those cornets for trumpets, cause they did sound like that. and I have to agree with noofnoof3112's remark about trumpets:P

  • its good, but the 8th graders on my honors band could play this, but still good job, well in fact we did play this in reg band, parts of it

  • look at the guy in the front row

  • For the dimbo's who use the F word if your critism of music is as good as your vocabulary, a word of advice wash your mouth out and then shut it up. This band in my opinion is a pleasure to listen to.

  • for an adult brass band this is pretty unimpressive. The dynamics are weak they never build. the trumpet players solo was ruined by taking a breath 2 measures and 2 counts in,not counting pickups its only 4 measures. Were was the double tounging on the to the pirate cave melody. Im in high school and we double tongued that part in a field show. shits weak!

  • fuck you

  • West Glamorgan Brass Band

    A billion times better.

    But good any way.

  • you don't get trumpets in a brass band ;)

  • its a fuckin brass band. They don't have trumpets.

    trumpets have no tune anyway

  • Trumpet? where are you from?

  • if you cant play the notes don't!

    lol

    more splits then a bakery

    lol

anyway to be fair bad arrangement and too slow!

  • I've played this too last year...

but I have to say, we sounded better.

  • As a player in a second section brass band, I have to say this is not good. The timing at the beginning is shoddy and the dynamic range of the piece is limited. And i agree with nikkiroanne - theyre cornets not trumpets!

  • brass rocks!!!

    i play the trumpet

  • I've played it last year :D

  • Why does everyone think they have trumpets?!? Cornets-idiots!

Love this arrangement-principle tenor horn in my band n my part is wonderful. thanks for posting :D

    x

  • hey who arranged this piece. please write back x

  • it is by disney and is basically a medley of all the peices in the film

  • thanks :) woop u play??

  • i play bass trombone in coventry youth brass band, but we play with st. helens youth brass band most of the time

  • Music by Klaus Badelt

    Arranged by Ted Ricketts

Brass band arrangement by John Blanken

My band is playing this at a gig tomorrow and we've rehearsed it like...twice before.

Easy sight read but the arrangement isn't the best. This band does well.

  • Deffinately need to back off on the trumpets, and practice that part over and over again before you can play this. Those tops notes are not coming out clean, and the tonguing sounds a little mushed. Ok, and for the record when you have a trumpet soloing you need the resonance where it should be, that is the main point of that music. i also played this in eight grade. But good work over all, the speed is at the exact par, but work on it till it hurts.

  • firstly theyre cornets not trumpets and secondly they may only sond load because of the low quality recording

  • @jbkjbkjbk i know they are cornets cos i play one and im in a brass band

  • what makes you fuckin king of the brass band?

no, please, i really would love to know

  • Don't forget the "cornets" are facing the camera so the sound will slightly over power the others as the sound is being projected in a different direction.

  • I played this in band in middle school!

    i play teh trombone :D

  • me to i played this in like training band lol

    i play tuba:)

  • im a trumpet player, and i will just say there is too much trumpet, if you backed them off and brought out the low and middle end it would be so much better...i still enjoyed it though

  • my band play it better :p still..good try lol x

  • Not bad considering the venue, but I have heard better. PSG xxx

  • sop misses a lot of top notes and the section after 71 with the xylophone, needs to be a lot faster...it gets better as the piece goes on though..

  • We've played that song in our brassband a couple of times.

    I LOVE IT :D

I had to play the eb cornet solo, 'cause it was in my notes as 'can play' thing and we don't have an eb cornet.

  • yall snapping main

  • sounds like it!!!

  • It is good to hear that the Eb-Cornet solo not is influrated by huge vibrato :D

In danish we call huge use of vibrato "hooker vibrato" (translated)

  • its a shame right...

    this is played brilliantly

    conducted good...

but it sounds tinny because there's no reverb!! it should be in some concert hall, theatre or something....it really needs more reverb nothing anyone can do though i suppose!

  • ...wow your gay

  • jaraldoe... you are a fag

  • o man! those guys really suck. did you hear that 1 mistake?

    i am very unimpressed...

  • oh dear, the conductor's left hand conducting is just disturbing to see.... but cool, I wouldn't want to switch hands, I'd completely fuzz up

it lacks the heavy instruments though, might just be the recording, but there's not enough low in it for my tastes

    sounds all right nonetheless

  • Is that Richard Dreyfus conducting left-handed?? Haha! Definite points for originality! Is there a piccolo trumpet part? That's pretty demanding up there!

  • <3 trumpets :]

  • We play this also in our brassband but with a other arrangement. :-)

  • Who have arranged this piece??

  • really nice but this song in the main part really needs to be emphisised heaps but really nice job. love it

  • It is not enough strong for me.

  • ummm yea i luv pirates but its sooooo sad @ da end lol canalope

  • nice job

    moo!

  • My brass band played this arrangement too... it seems like this particular arrangement became really popular with a lot of brass & concert bands when the most recent Pirates movie came out.

Reasonably well performed here, although I must admit some parts would sound better played slightly faster than the tempo this band played it at.

  • i wish i had a brass band near me that i could join overall it was awesome but the lead trumpet needs to work on his high notes he fell off a few times

  • you mean soprano cornet right? There are no trumpets in a brass band.

  • I trust that you either mean lead cornet or soprano? -No trumpets in brass band believe it or not.

  • cool beans

  • As an appreciator of this genre. I thought this was great! :)

  • This one is Ted Rickett's arrangement for Concert Band (not one of the best arrangements, in my opinion), but re-written for Brass Band by John Blanken.

But I like this band's performance.

  • excellent trumpet solo!!!! amazing overall!! brilliant

the baltimore county honors band played this last year..... different arrangment though. I had the trumpet solo =]

  • It's a sop

  • finally, a video of the shunned brass players! I felt so left out...

  • i can play this song on trumpet=] these people are good

  • hey, nice ^^
