@MuhahahEntertainment Thanks, but believe it or not... there are a bunch of my colleagues and pros who are way better than I am. They just don't really have time to do this. ;-)
@ComputerWarrior you'r right. BUT they didn't create it because it 'Looked' cool. they did it because with the remains of armor and helmets they also found their DRINKING horns (which served as cups obviously). eventually someone imagined that the horns must've belonged to the helmets as a sign of war and power. thus the horned helmets became viking's trademark =P cheers
I am aware of the drinking horns. But anyone who has seen an viking helmet would know about the lack of spots hinting for the fact that there could be horns on the sides.
Now, if you read some of the other replies to my comment you'll see that I have gotten a reasonable correction as to how that myth came to. I can imagine someone in the past seeing vikings with the horns and then describing them as warriors with horns, but not someone finding the remains doing so.
@ComputerWarrior Actually the Egyptians saw us CIVIL HONESTWORKING VIKINGS... as devils! I think it was around 18th century the myth started. When the english saw this play, they might have seen it as fact (really no offense). If you wondered where that myth came from.... :D
This was so awesome!! not the type of cartoon drawing I was looking but awesome, I'm gonna attempt this in a second =D, also people shut up its a drawing it doesn't need to be accurate
I'm not sure if you're saying that according to the mythology the warriors had horns, or in the comic book by Thor Heimdall, which is about the norse mythology, they had horns?
And Vikings never had horns on the helmet. Even if mythology or a comic book state otherwise.
A Valkyrie is a female figure sent by the gods to decide who dies in battle (Valkyrie means: "Choser of the slain." or sumthing) and they lead the fallen warriors to Valhalla.
This drawing would just be of a female Nordic warrior.
@MirageVelondor close, but valkyries where sent down by freya to claim the souls of the warriors who died in battle, IF they were worthy. i don't mean to be a prick but being Asatru and all i want to make sure people get it right
@tristan992 Ok, didn't know that they were sent specifically by Freya. I did hear they had to be worthy, but wasn't sure when writing the comment. Don't worry you're not being a prick, I don't mind. I'd rather be corrected than knowing only half of it.
I think it was for a psychological effect more than just because it looks cool. But you are right, it was a myth that the vikings had horns on their helmets.
If you can draw, any program would be good... but for works like that "Gimp" is one of the best free choices (it can even replace serious expensive leaders like "PhotoShop"), but it takes time to learn it.
That's true, just imagine one in the the middle of a battle somewhere in the battlefield who cannot even turn for his horns catch on everything...rediculous :) Still looks cool though
most of the point would be that if someone is to cut against his head. it would hit the horns and remove the helmet. next strike would kill.
but without the horns one wouldnt loose the helmet and tus one could take several strikes like that with only the danger of hitting the head to hard...
the horns were actually because the helmet was the thickest part of the armor, and a downward chop to the should would sever an arm and leave you either without a shield or a sword, and the horns would direct the blow towards the helmet, which is almost unbreakable metal and would just give you a ding against the head, and at the worst case, disorient you for a few seconds, but at least you could still fight back

It's also just a 'comic' hero, they don't need super armor, they got super comic fight skills to survive a fight
But the horns just look cool x3

Are you sure they saw us as devils with horns or so?
It's ok, now if anyone ask I can give them one theory as to where it came from.

@ComputerWarrior That is the only theory I hear'd of, when it comes to vikings and horned helmets.
