I was a training officer for 416 Lynx VFS with original GraphSim F/A-18 Hornet 3.0 and Korea... i'm still trying to get F/A-18 Iraqi Freedom there is no difference except they support 32 bit graphics now instead of the old 16 bit 3Dfx Voodoo cards. This is the top F/A-18 simulators out there... I also have Janes F-18 but that models the Super Hornets. The graphics are a bit weak now but its a fabulous game for 2 VS 2 online dog fights. I was training Nav and A/G instruction love Mud Moving
this looks like it was taken from Jane's F/A-18 flight sim (no longer produced but still widely used). The only carrier-based flight sim. There are forums and a website dedicated to online gameplay (which is awesome with Teamspeak. Just google it. Love landing on the carrier.
A free version of fraps .. check it at www.fraps.com. this can record exactly what appears on your monitor. but free version only records 30 sec. this vid was stiched togerther in windows movie maker. best of luck.

trust me on this, no "flight simulator" will ever teach anything close to what is required to be a pilot, all theyre good for is instrument interpritation and procedures training, these are games noone should ever take them any more seriously than that
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 comes close, but only if you have a yoke and rudder pedals (such as those made by CH Products) - I am a pilot, and they help me to stay sharp - in fact, they helped me in nailing landings :-) But for the most part, they are like you said...instrument interpretation/scanning and procedures. For a pilot, they're good to stay sharp. For a novice, they're good to learn cockpit management techniques. Still, they're fun :-)

There is a MSN group called 'Blacksheep' who still fly this Sim online.
I got the lock-on sim hoping it would be great but was disappointed. Will post some more clips of combat.

F/A 18 Precision Strike fighter by Xicat. Quite old now but the best game play for any fighter sim.
