Old locos look awesome. If people keep insisting on taking them out of service due to emissions and other such, why dont they just replace the engines in the old ones and keep the aweosme looking ones
Because the rest of the 40-year-old loco is worn out and needs replacing, too. And there's very little work on the modern railway for an engine like this, except by double-heading it with another one. Much cheaper to run and maintain a single modern loco.
@beeble2003 Just thought. What about all this stuff about recycling. Recycle the body and chassis. Recycle or replace the bogies, and engine and gubbins. Sorted!
@dctim Yes, this recycling of the parts is exactly what happens when the loco is sent for scrap! The scrapyard separates the components, sells what it can as parts (probably not very much, in the case of a 40-year-old loco), cuts up the rest and sells it to steelmakers to recycle into new steel.
@dctim Yeah, great idea! I would also like to see all enviroMENTALists re-cycled also, what goin about talkin shite with their little socialist agenda's, breathin my air and eating food that could be used to help the starving.....
shunts the hand crane, spare coach bogies and dog fish n wotever is left in the siding leaveing norchard bout 9 30ish so bout roughly 10ish something like that
31466 is on the Santa Specials at the moment, top'n'tailing with steam 1450. Diesel Gala sometime in September (we hope!). There will be shunting at St. Mary's with 'Charlie' on Sat. 22nd Dec. and at Lyd Junc. on Sat 5th Jan. (again Charlie). 1450 to go to WSR by road on 27th Dec.
Right thanks, I have seen her on Santa's. 27066 was on the 8th! I know 1450 is heading back for the WSR WSF. What is Charlie shunnting Saturday and what time?
Just recieved news that the Mince Pie trains are DMU services. Could you pass this idea on to one of the main people of the DFDA, to speak to the DFR operating team and ask if one of the DFDA diesels could take the services, please!

they did with hsts and made 57s, why not put 66 engines in 37s, they would be much better and reliable and i would then like them

most people go mad when we say it, classig body, modern engine is beter than classic body, old engine that blocks the mainline for hours!!!!

Good starter.
Until I started watching you tube, I never had seen diesels poping out of exhaust.
I remember seeing red glows out of exhaust in the dark on full power on 31,37, and 47.

So, can 466 run now?

If there is any usual movements, Diesel or steam, on the DFR can you let me know if poss?
