  • Hi, with the live plants in your tank, do the gold fish nip off their leaves?

  • what are the tall background plants?

  • Great setup very nice tank. A question what's the name of the plants in the front on the left side?

I noticed you got 4 of them...I would like to purchase some for my tank if only I knew the name of the plant ;-)

  • Thanks for the sand recommendation. It looks great (once all the air finally got out of it and it stopped clumping).

I tossed one bag of white in with all the black so the "poo" wont stand out as much. Turned out pretty well

  • Have you had any problems with the sand in with goldfish?

I'm thinking of using sand in my next setup when i move them to a larger tank.

do they seem to do ok when they eat a little with their food they find layin around?

  • They haven't had any problems with it at all. They sift through it all day, a very natural behavior that should not be denied. I have not seen any sand come out in their feces, they are pretty good about picking the food from the sand. Definitely use it. I would only use Estes' Marine Sand (not a true marine sand).

  • Thank you for the quick reply.

I'll look into that sand and see where i can get it. I was looking into the black sand Petsmart sells just because it's close and no shipping charges. I think it's Caribsea or something like that.

  • Not that one. Find a small locally owned shop and get them to special order Estes' Marine Sand.

  • Ok, will do, there are two pretty good ones in a nearby city, one of the two may carry it already if I'm lucky.

    Thanks again

  • Haven't bought my sand yet (only store near me that has it is closed today too).

how is this sand for floating, does it sink right away when tossed up, or does it hover a bit?

I setup of a small test tank using silica sand just to practice cleaning sand to see how i would like it. the silica sand seems to float a bit though if a fish tosses it up or i stir it up.

  • That depends on the size of the grains, the Estes Marine Sand is uniform in size and sinks very fast. They are very good at filtering the food out of the sand.

  • a pair of oscars would go great in there;)

  • If you have nothing intelligent to say, ZIP IT!

  • it was just a joke jeese.....its not like u have to get all defensive bout how ur fave fish cant stand up to the oscar much les kill it

  • but dont get me wrong ur fish r pretty beautiful:)

  • No, no CO2, ferts, special substrate, or anything. Just light and poop from goldfish fed New Life Spectrum.

  • are you co2 injecting at all? im thinking about trying the fermetation method if my plants dont start growing faster

  • Awesome tank and CUTE fishys!!!! :)

I am getting my first fantail goldfish today! Can't wait! Does anybody have any advice? Thanks!

    Great video,

    Klaire<3

  • The smaller fish will end up being eaten with long-bodied goldfish. No, pearl and zebra danios (and zebra danios morphs) do not need a heater unless your house is abnormally cold.

  • i wondering if Normal goldfish will be ok with eitha zebra or pearl danios, if they do will they need a heater

  • my gf had 5 glo lights in her tank, 2 got eaten by the goldie

  • There are lots. As long as the rest of the diet is truly complete and balanced they shouldn't bother them because they don't need anything from them. I have: cabomba, tiger lotus, amazon sword, radican sword, moss ball, moneywort, vals, banana, water wisteria, red ludwigia, and others.

  • hey what kind of live plants do you have in there? Summer/fall I will be building a bigger tank and wanted to do some live plants they wouldnt eat.

  • Love your tank! Nice!

  • They are all live. I get them all at the pet shop I work at.

  • Your tank looks so great! Wish I had a tank that big. Are the plants real or fake? Where did you get them? I can never seem to find any healthy looking live plants or reall looking fake ones.

  • You tank looks great!
