They haven't had any problems with it at all. They sift through it all day, a very natural behavior that should not be denied. I have not seen any sand come out in their feces, they are pretty good about picking the food from the sand. Definitely use it. I would only use Estes' Marine Sand (not a true marine sand).
I'll look into that sand and see where i can get it. I was looking into the black sand Petsmart sells just because it's close and no shipping charges. I think it's Caribsea or something like that.
Haven't bought my sand yet (only store near me that has it is closed today too).
how is this sand for floating, does it sink right away when tossed up, or does it hover a bit?
I setup of a small test tank using silica sand just to practice cleaning sand to see how i would like it. the silica sand seems to float a bit though if a fish tosses it up or i stir it up.
That depends on the size of the grains, the Estes Marine Sand is uniform in size and sinks very fast. They are very good at filtering the food out of the sand.
The smaller fish will end up being eaten with long-bodied goldfish. No, pearl and zebra danios (and zebra danios morphs) do not need a heater unless your house is abnormally cold.
There are lots. As long as the rest of the diet is truly complete and balanced they shouldn't bother them because they don't need anything from them. I have: cabomba, tiger lotus, amazon sword, radican sword, moss ball, moneywort, vals, banana, water wisteria, red ludwigia, and others.
Your tank looks so great! Wish I had a tank that big. Are the plants real or fake? Where did you get them? I can never seem to find any healthy looking live plants or reall looking fake ones.
Hi, with the live plants in your tank, do the gold fish nip off their leaves?

Great setup very nice tank. A question what's the name of the plants in the front on the left side?
I noticed you got 4 of them...I would like to purchase some for my tank if only I knew the name of the plant ;-)

Thanks for the sand recommendation. It looks great (once all the air finally got out of it and it stopped clumping).
I tossed one bag of white in with all the black so the "poo" wont stand out as much. Turned out pretty well

Not that one. Find a small locally owned shop and get them to special order Estes' Marine Sand.

Ok, will do, there are two pretty good ones in a nearby city, one of the two may carry it already if I'm lucky.
Thanks again
