Nice jam. There is a couple rough spots like the transition from the A to the B and a few lost spots in the solo but it's good. I am working on the solo version in the style of Chet Atkins. Go check it out NOW!!!
trust me, it's credited Paul Desmond as recorded with Dave Brubeck. I was a jazz studies major at UNT--check your real book. In all fairness the piano riff is all brubeck but the melody was written by Desmond, that's why the tune is credited to him.
its good... I realise the equipment you have, and the handling behind it.... but if it can be done, dial down on the piano, don't play too hard, as you're drowning out the guitar, the melody, the main thing that is meant to be heard... (don't take this as criticism, but as a critique, something to improve.... its just a minor thing, after all.... everything else was well done!)
i agree...music is all about pouring your whole heart and soul into it...and not just 99%, but all of your emotions...but, overall, this was a good jam session...good job.
hey you guys did really good but one question, where were the kids at or do you have any? LOVE THE FACT THAT YOU WERE DRINKIN COKE WHILE STILL PLAYING
no need. drummer-less groups can swing hard too. check out tal farlow with red mitchell and tommy flanagan. check out oscar peterson with herb ellis and ray brown. good stuff. as long as you can keep the quarter note pulse, you can do fine without a drummer. that being said, playing with a drummer is fun too.
son horribles se notan que nunca se esforzaron en aprender jazz, ni siquiera los mejores musicos hacen esa canchereada de tomar agua mientras tocan, muy FEO
why do you love the 5/4, its written in that, thats what its supposed to be, stop trying to sound all artsy by saying ohhh i love the 5/4, i know so much about music...give me a break
Does anybody know what the "real key" is...? My mom found a concert G version of it.... I'm gonna ask my mom to get the music for saxophone in "real key" if the music store has it.
It was Brubeck who added the piano vamp and had the idea of combining the two fragments so that a standard 32-bar phrase would be the result. So, although "Take Five" is credited to Paul Desmond, I rather like to think of it as the work of the hole group!
Originally, the idea came from drummer Joe Morello, who was warming up before concerts by playing 5/4-rhythm. Desmond used to improvise over that. So Brubeck wanted him to write a tune for their next album. But at the next rehearsal, Desmond said: "I can't write a tune in 5/4". It's right that Desmond actually wrote two melody-fragments, but in fact he didn't write the tune as it finally appeared on "Time Out".
I must say that's pretty god damn cool, I taught myself how to play the beginning of take five on my trumpet. I need to learn the whole thing. ROCK ON
very true, my friend--Dave did come up with that chunky piano riff, though. If I remember correctly from my jazz studies classes at UNT, this was "created" at a jam session at a college in Ohio.
you have to love musicians!, great times... cool fun. nice guitar, my best is a Gibson ES-446... but my left hand is messed up right now, so i can't play it! :-(
yeah, i hope it's just carpal tunnel, so i'm resting it, but it's not getting better!, anyway about the guitars... hard to say, i like jazzy guitars so i would get the ES-175... but if he already has a good enough jazz style guitar, maybe he should get the L4? it's totally up to him, only he knows what he needs and feels right for what he is needing to add to his collection. guitarists lol, we really just want to buy them all!
keep on playing and posting, you both sound great :)
it's up to him--he's got quite a collection already--he's also looking at those elfenrinks--there's a user here that plays one, it is pretty sweet. check it out
I play guitar, too--being that I married to the man in this vid lol. that's great that you play both in your jazz band--please post some vids so we can hear you!
it always by ear awake asleep my ears are always on --Take Five is an awesome tune no need to let sheet music get in the way of anything
