  • it always by ear awake asleep my ears are always on --Take Five is an awesome tune no need to let sheet music get in the way of anything

  • people don't seem to have an idea how difficult playing Jazz is, no appreciation for its complexity and improvisational demand.

  • Sounds real good.

  • love it! I am really keen to start learning piano... i have an old keyboard and an organ that just sits at home collecting dust

  • Listen PIERTOMAS DELL'ERBA ;-)

  • i wish i could play jazz with my girl

  • Nice jam. There is a couple rough spots like the transition from the A to the B and a few lost spots in the solo but it's good. I am working on the solo version in the style of Chet Atkins. Go check it out NOW!!!

  • love this song. desmond and brubeck were beasts

  • nice jam! 5*

    gotta love 'take five'

  • take five is by paul desmond... Dave brubeck took it back after...

  • You guys would be fun at a party! Sounds great!

  • take 5 is not by Paul Desmond its by Dave Brubeck

  • it was written by Paul Desmond was it not?

  • trust me, it's credited Paul Desmond as recorded with Dave Brubeck. I was a jazz studies major at UNT--check your real book. In all fairness the piano riff is all brubeck but the melody was written by Desmond, that's why the tune is credited to him.

  • lol everyone thinks it was written by Dave Brubeck...

but yea , it was mostly Paul Desmond : )

    great musician!!

  • its written by Paul Desmond but played by Dave Brubecks quartet.

  • of which Paul Desmond was at the time, a member, and the sax player on the all too famous recording.

  • @chino15siu it was written by Paul Desmond who played sax in the Dave Brubeck Quartet.

  • damn.. Paul Desmond created Take 5 while he was playing with Dave Bruebeck Quartet.

  • nice version, and what a wonderful guitar!

  • i can't hear it

  • cool improvisation =)

  • I do want that kind of a marriage...Thanks for sharing :)

  • Beautiful! Thanks for sharing :)

  • That is awesome.

  • not bad! :)

    nice one... :)

  • super hi 5

  • they are probably on some nice herbal remedies, i love smoking weed and listening to this song.

  • good job guys this is nice

  • its good... I realise the equipment you have, and the handling behind it.... but if it can be done, dial down on the piano, don't play too hard, as you're drowning out the guitar, the melody, the main thing that is meant to be heard... (don't take this as criticism, but as a critique, something to improve.... its just a minor thing, after all.... everything else was well done!)

  • i want some god dam justice!!!

  • Dug it. I'm jealous. Even if my wife played piano, I could never get her to stay up until midnight!

  • haha :D

  • wow!! Granny can really jam!! lolz!!

  • That was great, loved it!

  • remind me to marry a pianist.

    excellent job, guys.

  • Exelent

  • Fantastic! Love it!

  • esta super el video ,,bien hecho chicos..

  • the start was little shakie but ya'll brought it back very well....GOod job.

  • Awesome, though the guitar could do with being a little quieter.

And the sip of wine; classy.

  • yeah lovely

  • WOW! lovely couple! both musicians!^_^ sweet

  • cool video. i love this song.

  • That was pretty cool you two!!

  • finally someone on youtube kickin ass jammin this song! you woldn't believe the half-ass versions out there...

  • umm minor dorian vampish thing me like

  • the guitar isn't loud enough

  • Such things are what life is meant to be all about. Love it!

  • lol

the woman is looking so bored with

    this piano+guitar arrangement

  • yes the woman was bored--it was like 3am and my husband was making me play the piano :) I was literally playing in my sleep...

  • @dcstudio i never knew anyone was cruel enough to force somebody to play piano at 3 AM, although i may end up doing that if my own free will...

  • @dcstudio well, you play very nice while sleeping. not a lot of sleeping artists can do that. the atmosphere is very catchy in my opinion.

  • Comment removed

  • that was good

  • Ooooooh.... I Ibanez AF105.... I'm looking to buy one of those soon. You likey?

  • I wish I married a musician. Would be cool as hell.

    Awesome jam.

  • haha~~ so sweat!~:)

i hope i could jam with my wife one day

  • sounds great!!i love it!

  • good job. why don't you see our version?

  • piano too loud... guitar being the voice should be way louder.

  • very nice:) but i think theres missing something ... maybe is just the movie that dont have much sound quality

  • You definitely have the right guitar but I wish it were a little brighter...the technique is just fine! Nice job you two : )

  • These two are so cool. I like how she doesn't even skip a beat when she takes a drink. Multi-tasking at its finest!

  • when i get married i want it to be like this!! :-)

  • Belisimo.....that was grate, Me and my friend are trying to play this song.... it's had... but we will get it....some time

    Loco was here

  • ولا لهم بالطق

  • i love that!!! it is funny because it reminds me of me and tony playing that song. exactly, me on keys, him on guitar...groovy

  • It's very Beautiful !! I like !! ;)

  • kinggimped, where is the heart have you considered throwing yourself off a bridge lately? you would be doing the world a favor

  • cool i like it

  • beautiful guitar

  • Well done - on my YT page are blues chords you can learn in minute - then this nice guitarist might excell in free performance

  • nice piano jazz guitar is that a baritone?

  • The guitar sounds good and nice, but not enough loud.

  • not enough loud?

    what does that mean?

  • obviously he means "loud enough", try using your noodle next time.

  • i agree...music is all about pouring your whole heart and soul into it...and not just 99%, but all of your emotions...but, overall, this was a good jam session...good job.

  • Very straight performance, technically fine. But where's the heart?

  • Needs more practice really. Some nice ideas on the guitar, but the pianist needs to listen more a be a little more musical.

  • Hi!THis is Amazing!!!!!!!!!

    Thank you for sharing

    Best wishes

    Angela

  • Very nice.

  • Good job guys! great vibe! Keep on jammin....

  • ure often late in this recording!

  • I love Take Five on the guitar, give it a different vibe.

  • hey you guys did really good but one question, where were the kids at or do you have any? LOVE THE FACT THAT YOU WERE DRINKIN COKE WHILE STILL PLAYING

  • our daughter was upstairs asleep--it was about 2am :) thanks!

  • great song guys, now you just need a drummer!

  • we sure do! they're hard to come by though, at least the good ones anyway :) thanks

  • no need. drummer-less groups can swing hard too. check out tal farlow with red mitchell and tommy flanagan. check out oscar peterson with herb ellis and ray brown. good stuff. as long as you can keep the quarter note pulse, you can do fine without a drummer. that being said, playing with a drummer is fun too.

  • what cup?

  • 1:11

  • mmm that sounds like My favoritre things of coltrane

  • Nice, I can play Take five on the Piano. It's really kinda hard cuz it's in 5/4... oh well, but great job anyway.

  • Nice

  • This is cool, very nice and mellow

  • OMG, JAMMING ALL NIGHT, i wish i jsut had most skill

  • jammin indeed. one of my favorite jazz songs! thanks for posting

  • THAT. is jammin!

  • "my husband, David and I, just jammin' after midnight. That's just coke in the cup :)"

its great taht you do that, so great!

  • thanks :) are you saying you like that we play together, or that I drank my soda in the middle of his solo? haha

  • I love you.

  • Awesome! I actually like the guitar piano combo for this song. It works well. Nice jazz guitar playing too.

  • nice one!

  • why do you love the 5/4, its written in that, thats what its supposed to be, stop trying to sound all artsy by saying ohhh i love the 5/4, i know so much about music...give me a break

  • lol :)

  • sounds cool... I love the 5/4 key signature...

  • I think you mean 5/4 time--you are referring to the rhythm and not the key of Eb minor...right? anyway, thanks :)

  • it was nice, but whats up with the white piano?

  • what do you mean? you don't like the color?

  • fantastic! :D

  • Does anybody know what the "real key" is...? My mom found a concert G version of it.... I'm gonna ask my mom to get the music for saxophone in "real key" if the music store has it.

  • F#.

  • Thank you.

  • actually that's correct in the enharmonic sense--it's Gb and if you want to get technical it's really Eb minor.

  • Nice guitar tone!

  • it is great to KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY R:-)

  • I wanna a man like this

  • lol--this one is mine :) and playing the guitar isn't the only thing he does well. ;)

  • now that's cool! r u guys husband & wife? anyway, again i say, it's a cool combination of instrument & musicians! jazz on!

  • yep, thanks! :)

  • Beautiful job...I loved the idea of the two of you playing...and that beautiful fluid guitar.

Do you play a lot? What kind of repertoire?

    Thanks again....

By the way, there's another Brubeck tune that I like very much --"The Duke". I'd like to hear/see you do that sometime.

Let me know if you do another video (I guess I should look and see if you have...)

  • Very nice. Smooth and relaxing.

  • @guitarist: what setup do you play (guitar, amp..)?

  • I can't see the amp but I can see the guitar, and it's an Artcore AF105.

  • Nice! if only my wife played to at an instrument.respect

  • good job!

  • great

  • It was Brubeck who added the piano vamp and had the idea of combining the two fragments so that a standard 32-bar phrase would be the result. So, although "Take Five" is credited to Paul Desmond, I rather like to think of it as the work of the hole group!

  • great comment! :)

  • Originally, the idea came from drummer Joe Morello, who was warming up before concerts by playing 5/4-rhythm. Desmond used to improvise over that. So Brubeck wanted him to write a tune for their next album. But at the next rehearsal, Desmond said: "I can't write a tune in 5/4". It's right that Desmond actually wrote two melody-fragments, but in fact he didn't write the tune as it finally appeared on "Time Out".

  • hi thanks for the positive comment yea just spur of the moment my arrangement not really thinking playin.

  • I must say that's pretty god damn cool, I taught myself how to play the beginning of take five on my trumpet. I need to learn the whole thing. ROCK ON

  • thank you! :) many more vids to come--we just got a video capture card. this is VERY addicting! lol

  • fun! fun! fun! you 2 rock.

  • Very nice!

  • 2 cool--why did you cut off your solo? Dave sounds awesome--that's a NICE ax.

  • good very well

    Calabocca

  • :O I love Dave Brubeck.

  • most people done realize Paul Desmond, brubecks sax player, wrote ALL of this song... NOT dave brubeck.

  • very true, my friend--Dave did come up with that chunky piano riff, though. If I remember correctly from my jazz studies classes at UNT, this was "created" at a jam session at a college in Ohio.

  • yeah dude, I'd say she knew that already.

  • i wasnt saying she didnt... i was simply stating a fact that i thought was interesting and i figured alot of people didnt know lol

  • you're right though, I should've included Desmond in the description. I must say, I've corrected a few folks on that one, too. lol.

  • you have to love musicians!, great times... cool fun. nice guitar, my best is a Gibson ES-446... but my left hand is messed up right now, so i can't play it! :-(

  • wow, and ES-446--SWEET!! Dave's getting the L4 or the ES-175 next. he's having trouble deciding... which one would you buy, my friend?

so sorry about your hand... :( I live in constant fear of an injury like that.

  • yeah, i hope it's just carpal tunnel, so i'm resting it, but it's not getting better!, anyway about the guitars... hard to say, i like jazzy guitars so i would get the ES-175... but if he already has a good enough jazz style guitar, maybe he should get the L4? it's totally up to him, only he knows what he needs and feels right for what he is needing to add to his collection. guitarists lol, we really just want to buy them all!

keep on playing and posting, you both sound great :)

  • it's up to him--he's got quite a collection already--he's also looking at those elfenrinks--there's a user here that plays one, it is pretty sweet. check it out
