@MrBrossett22 They did that for the reason to make a more mature batman, bringing him up to the age he is in the comics, somewhere between 35-40 years old, where he was some where near 30 in the first two films, depicting him in the first two films as being Year one Batman. This film based on the title will have batman come into a sort of redemptive ending. Because he took the fall for Harvey murdering five ppl. They most likely wont kill him off. But its pure speculation.

Well Dent suffered horrific injuries and would have died anyway.

The reason its 8 years later is because after Dent died Gotham implemented 'The Dent act' in honour of Dent.This actually cleaned Gotham up and improved it,but Nolan said in an interview a couple of years of this act would not have been enough time for Gotham to improve,hence the 8 year window.So Gotham is an improved City but then Bane comes to destroy it.

Well Two-Face of course is an iconic Batman foe,but he does not bring the threat level like Bane.Also If he was in the movie it may have got a little congested,Catwoman is obviously playing quite a large role,Talia Al Ghul is in it,flash backs to Ras,and Scarecrow is technically still around...that would have been a mess.Also as I said Dent's injuries would have killed him anyway,Dent was used to set up this film with Batman taking the blame for his actions.

Think of it along the line's of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns,where Batman retired but then comes out of retirement.Also the film is based on Charles Dickens 'A tale of two cities' and Fritz Lang's 'Metropolis'.So rich and poor,proletariat V bourgeois etc...quite fitting with occupy Wall street happening recently.I am a big Batman fan,also I really like Nolan's work,but this film intrigues me for lots of other reasons too.Nolan is just a great story teller.
