im tempted to buy this game, but the whole no main character thing really puts me off , specially in this kind of game where its all about the story, is practically a really long movie you take part in, but i want more than that, i want a main character that i can get attached to, feel a connection to, basically i wanna feel like im part of the story, not just someone moving the pieces around so the story can continue.
i have followed ff from the begining, and i love this game people can say that 13 is terrible because before all this it was a ps2 era....and i think with people dissing the game this much enix should be pissed. i mean think about it....5 years.. all that casting, and people are saying its a fail....the graphics are amazing and the story is good too, the combat as well, plus the summons are new and revolutionized for our newer times..ff fans should just be happy the new ff is here

Peace Walker was pretty damn fine, pre ordered that game and i love it. I can't beleive such a customizable and long game could be put onto the PSP like that. Still it had it floors, it nailed being a handheld game, but the whole missions thing and the lack of a long and powerful story prevented it from being as good as a console game.

@Mrpnut08 It's because they are not, lol. Ever since the merger of Enix and SquareSoft I think around 2001 or 2002 (FFX was the last sole SquareSoft), the Final Fantasy series has taken a different path, not necessarily bad, but different.

Final Fantasy for me is, story, leveling, managing equipment and characters, turn based fighting system, world map, some sort of mini-game for distraction, epic boss battles and not to forget, memorable music. Each characters needs to tell their story and somehow be a part of the greater whole of the main plot.
I know they keep on trying to reinvent the wheel here, but since VII, I lost a lot of hope in the FF franchise.
Did they include summons or turn-based? Is there a world map?
While I'm at it. I like VII, IX and X. I haven't played the oldschool ones, so I couldn't add those to my list. I hope they go back to their roots someday.
The graphics, gameplay, story, characters- this game has it all. This is the type of game that you'll play just to see what will happen next, which becomes and addictive factor (it was for me anyway).
The only downfall is the linear quality. Until the 3rd disc when you're able to actually explore, you're following a straight path, with a couple dead ends, in different terrains you can't return to. Additionally, your battle roster is picked for you until the 3rd disc.

i've always luved the FF series but more often then not i find my self ignoring it when i come across a tough boss. the system of taking turn attacking doesnt appeal to me as i am more used to real time fights in games such as CoD. i adore the new real time fight sequences in FFXIII and i cant wait to complete the game, its looks to hav sum gr8 fights ahead, and an even greater story 10.5/10 :D

Despite its reviews, Im loving the game. So what your stuck to focusing on the story, the battles seem to keep me on my toes especially when you make it to Pulse and realize everything before that was childsplay compared to the enemies there. Overall the game isn't perfect, but its still pretty damn good.
You must be STUPID not to buy this if your going off what people have said on reviews. Reviews more or less control the buget through public manipulation whether to or not buy the game is your choice. this game is awful you guys. if you haven't played it, then don't say shit. I waited four years for this game, just to find out that you'll be running through a tunnel with a pretty wallpaper for the whole game. It said that it lacked depth, speed, and moment-to-moment something. But the thing is, those are the things I like and am looking for in an RPG. So, i don't know. RPGs are in fact not about choice, that's something that changed recently. RPGs are about the story and building skills, they're just a video game version of something like Dungeons & Dragons. People have gotten spoiled.

Well im about 10 Hours in it and So far Its great, seriously love the new battle system even though Snow and Lightning are the only ones with Gestalt Mode but hey still on Disc 2 :D

I'm never playing FF again. I played number 10 and it was pokemon all over again. Run, fight, run, fight. I could even hear the battle theme song every time I got into a battle. It was a truly horrible experience.

I've been playing this game, so far it a solid game, the two point's that are off is it's battle system, and story. The battle system seems to be half automatic and simplified, Not saying I don't like it but it feels like most fights can be put on an Atto-fight and you would be ok. as for the story, it seems to just throw the characters at you, and 3 chapters into it your still like "Who the hell are some of these people!!!?"
ff13 does look epic and is epic just got it today preordered and i want to play it so bad but i know these sites are supposed to be good at reviews but how does it give wired the right to say failed experiment it seems that there stuck in the past of ff and cant acknowledge a new gaming milestone but im not complaining i just think its a bit harsh to say from wired maybe they are the failed experiment lol :)

Despite its reviews, Im loving the game. So what your stuck to focusing on the story, the battles seem to keep me on my toes especially when you make it to Pulse and realize everything before that was childsplay compared to the enemies there. Overall the game isn't perfect, but its still pretty damn good.

You must be STUPID not to buy this if your going off what people have said on reviews. Reviews more or less control the buget through public manipulation whether to or not buy the game is your choice. What im saying is you really cant judge this game untill you get past the first 20 hours, yes its a bit of a grind, but isnt that wat us die hard FF fans have been after? every FF game to date (apart this) is more or less the same time lenght in gameplay hours. this changes it all by a long shot.

I really dont understand how people are complaining about the god damn game, story is epic, characters fit well with it also, battle system is evolutionary, nice little upgrade system for your weapons and accesories, crazy summons and Gestalt mode to go crazy on. + after 20-25 hours through you will be able to free roam the world of cacoon.
Clue up people. alot of people would quit after 20 hours becuase they just cba to wait for the good part.

this game is awful you guys. if you haven't played it, then don't say shit. I waited four years for this game, just to find out that you'll be running through a tunnel with a pretty wallpaper for the whole game. The story could've been more elaborated, and some of the situations that made the characters be where and what they were are just plain stupid and/or funny in a bad way. Terrible game.

It said that it lacked depth, speed, and moment-to-moment something. But the thing is, those are the things I like and am looking for in an RPG. So, i don't know. I like like the visuals and presentation (and from the looks of it, the battle system) but I'm not sure whether I should get it because it lacks the things im looking for...hmm. I COULD buy it for the novelty i suppose

you'll be extremely disappointed. The only rpg thing about this is probably the weapons and skills or paradigms. I've been playing the game for 15+ now, maybe even 20, and just NOW i've gotten the ability to choose the party leader i want and switch the team around. Also, no exploration. The game just puts you wherever the story goes. it feels like a movie in which you have to do all the fighting. fun at the beginning but imma sell it as soon as im finished

I understand the criticisms labeled against this game, but I don't accept them!
I'm an old-school gamer and I love my old-fashioned J-RPG'S!
Things like turn-based battles, random battles and grinding levels is what I love the most.
And when the critics complain that XIII is completely linear for the first 20 hours, I rejoice!
Who wants a free open world anyway?
It's hard enough figuring out what to do in the real world. That's why I hated Oblivion for example. I want to focus on the story!

rpg is all about choice, this game gives you no choice but to run through a tunnel for 20 hours, open gameplay, but soon becomes a tunnel again. not fun man. I was over hyping this game so much, and i am completely disappointed

RPGs are in fact not about choice, that's something that changed recently. RPGs are about the story and building skills, they're just a video game version of something like Dungeons & Dragons. People have gotten spoiled.

To me it doesn't feel like a Final Fantasy game either, but maybe that's because it was so.. good. Not to say the other Final Fantasy's aren't good, I love FF, but still.
I still think this game is amazing regardless. One of the few games I haven't gotten sick of after constant playing.

Well im about 10 Hours in it and So far Its great, seriously love the new battle system even though Snow and Lightning are the only ones with Gestalt Mode but hey still on Disc 2 :D

I agree,Wired mustve been high that day. I picked the game up today and already played 3 hours,you guys should ignore the bad rep it's gotten,if you like Final Fantasy then pick this up,there are a few flaws but no reason to not buy it. I personally love it and think it's totally worth $60.(including tax)

I'm never playing FF again. I played number 10 and it was pokemon all over again. Run, fight, run, fight. I could even hear the battle theme song every time I got into a battle. It was a truly horrible experience.

I have the game and so far its really good, if the game wasn't linear at the beggining then you wouldn't know what to do .....

i preordered this game, and so far im a fair bit into it, its basically stopped giving me tutorials n stuff, which is like chapter 4, and so far i love it, id say to people dont listen to reviews, its a well executed game in my opinion, graphics are amazing as you would expect

I've been playing this game, so far it a solid game, the two point's that are off is it's battle system, and story. The battle system seems to be half automatic and simplified, Not saying I don't like it but it feels like most fights can be put on an Atto-fight and you would be ok. as for the story, it seems to just throw the characters at you, and 3 chapters into it your still like "Who the hell are some of these people!!!?"

ff13 does look epic and is epic just got it today preordered and i want to play it so bad but i know these sites are supposed to be good at reviews but how does it give wired the right to say failed experiment it seems that there stuck in the past of ff and cant acknowledge a new gaming milestone but im not complaining i just think its a bit harsh to say from wired maybe they are the failed experiment lol :)
