  • My favourite character in Final Fantasy is Nobuo Uematsu.

  • The last words that Nobuo said are stuck with me now. I want to become a Conductor for Final Fantasy orchestras and such... all because of my role model NOBUO UEMATSU. Thank you!

  • THAT'S IT! I'm hitting the Japanese language learning books TODAY!!!!!

  • I WISH NOBUO UEMATSU CANT AGE OR DIE SO HE CAN MAKE MORE AWESOME MUSIC

  • @Maplemong

It just kills me knowing that eventually everybody will die... even...Nobu- No! can't say it!!!!!

  • dude i would love to have a beer with this guy

  • the time he sat down infront of their home piano was probably very important for all of us

  • I would scream like a little girl meeting this guy. I mean really.. He is that awesome.

  • I am speechless by how great Nobuo is... I'm serious. Wow, really... just wow!!!

  • OMG this is the best of both world! The man who made the music for my favorite games ever the Final Fantasy games and my favorite FPS HALO

  • Not surprised, Nobuo has a genuine inspiration of music... unlike me I've always got a song stuck in my head that's already been created.

  • <3

  • great interview, apart from the distracting trumpet at 6:50 :p

  • Nobuo is god!

  • He didn't mention Yasonuri Mitsuda. they both worked on chrono trigger. according to the sources I read, Nobou supported Mitsuda when he first started composing music.

Nobou and Mitsuda are both great composers. I can't say who is my favorite. I love them both

  • He'd not be japanese if he wasn't humble. It comes with the culture. They always put themselves down when receiving compliments or kindly reject them.

It's as second nature to Japanese like Westerners to saying sorry when someone gets in their way sorta.

He is a brilliant composer and I was shocked he has no formal education in music but that shows his creativity shining through in technique.

  • Nobou Eumatsu a genius in music history!!

  • Nobou Eumatsu is god-like!!!!

  • I was hoping he would mention Motoi Sakuraba, my equally favorite video game composer, but Koji Kondo is great too. I like Uematsu's advice; it really does inspire me to continue on my composition track.

  • Nobuo Uematsu = Legend

  • Oh my God I Just laugh Because Nobuo said he wanted to be a Pro Wrestler Thats so Funny I'm Sorry for Laughing Nobuo Forgive me

  • PPL RESEARSING IN THE BACK-SHUSH! Interview commencing here! O__o

  • "be courageous, do not be afraid to pursue what you desire." - Nobue Uematsu.

  • i want to give this man a passionate hug

  • @jabre12 yeah me to Nobuo Uematsu seems Like a Very Kindhearted man

  • if mozart is still alive and heard "assault in the silver dragons" he would be so pleased

  • @Prosopagnosia11 very true that song was probably one the best Songs off of Final Fantasy IX

  • @XMonkeyManGuyX yes i think of that also. in an interview nobuo stated that the songs he written on final fantasy 9 was his favorites.

  • actually mozart , beethoven and other classical geniuses did not go to college or universities to study music, they were all self taught. nobuo is just a genius, a truly gifted composer

  • Wait what....

Nobuo Uematsu never took any formal music lessons?

I didn't even think it was possible, but my respect for him just doubled.

  • i agree with you 100%.

  • @Kerrandrius Actually most of my favourite composers aren't formally trained.

  • @Kerrandrius

The same rings true for composers in our country.

The likes of Jason Hayes and Russel Brower from Blizzard Entertainment studied music in places like community colleges. Very humble composers with amazing work that's being put out there

  • @Kerrandrius My thoughts exactly. Same story applies to Danny Elfman, from what I've read.

  • @Kerrandrius It's actually is very possible. His passion was music and learning it so, he gained much more out of his self taught lessons than a kid who's bored tapping the keys waiting to go home and play call of duty.

  • This man is a legend, a true genius to any type of musician or person who would love to pursue a career in music.

  • Styxoric and Ayanami, where does it say he will be doing the soundtrack for 13? From what I've read, Masashi Hamauzu is doing it, and Nobuo is only performing the opening song. So yeah, unlimited saga music in other words, cool music, but dont expect it to be near the epic level of Nobuo

  • Nobuo is no longer doing the main theme to FFXIII anymore, Hamauzu is doing everything for that soundtrack. It was announced that Uematsu will be doing the complete soundtrack for FFXIV, he's gonna concentrate on that instead.

  • totally agree with you guys.. he's a Genius we're so nice to have lived during his Time of music works.. cause i bet he's a Legend!!

  • I think Nobuo Uematsu has to be one of the most humble and down to earth composers I've ever seen. It's almost as if he doesn't realise he's a modern musical genious who millions of children have grown up listening to and been inspired by.

  • @Terradreamer he probably doesnt :)

  • I miss the times when i used to get chills from playing a Final Fantasy game and listening to the music.

I pray to god that XIII (13) will take me back.

  • he's making teh music for XIII, looking forward to it :) I never cared much for music or playing instruments, but Uematsu helped me start, now I'm taking piano lessons, thank you To Zanarkand and Aeris Theme ^^

  • Micheal never fails to impress me. I had no idea he spoke Japanese so well. He has so much talent. I wonder what else he can do.

  • i hope XIV doesen't suck as much as XI

  • at least if you create online game do it RIGHT! XI sucks and i bet XIV is going to suck too which i don't want to suck

  • is Nobuo going back to Square for FF composing again?

  • he is going to compose music to Final fantasy 14

  • And that was going to be an online game right? I heard so atleast

  • yes , u heard right and in my opinion only thing that can save that shitty looking Final fantasy is Nobuos music

  • Some games arent just ment (dunno if I spelled correct there) to be online games, and FF is one of them. Ruining our serie like this, Cant they just stay happy with XI as an online game oO

    /Kain

  • and XIII

  • Fucking awesome.

  • great interview!

    thanks

  • great upload.

  • My birthday is coming up on 25th of March

Elton John's on the same day &

Uematsu gets to celebrate on hes a few days ealier > OMG! ::O

    Happy March! XD

(Is it why i have a gift in ART?)

  • This is great, I'm currently learning how to speak japanese, though and also Distant Worlds will be coming to my country to perform this May! ^_^

  • I so wish I could speak japanese. I would talk to Nobuo all day lol

  • I wish I knew Japanese, I envy Michael so much. Not so much the Japanese part as the meeting Nobuo Uematsu part...

  • How inspiring ;)

  • what a great interview and michael you speak Japanese so well, I could see how excited you were talking to Uematsu-san...hehehe..well done!!

  • Puta!!!!! se ha jugado casi todos los finals desde el primero..............jajajaja...que talega

  • LOL Uematsu-san wanted to be a pro wrestler? Oh I love that guy. ^-^

He makes video game sountrack music stand for itself. Only a few others can do that.

  • that is just priceless a Wrestler? :)

good to hear there is a honour between composers Koji Kondo is one of my faves as well,

  • indeed i was hoping he would say koji lol

  • aaah, i wish uemastu san could come to Puerto Rico. tht wouod be awsomeness. XD
