@maryted Thanks for the comment! The original Black Beauty is a thicker seamless solid shell, so it's going to have a different tonality than our Brushed Black Nickel Brass as it is a roll shell with a seam. The Black Beauty is twice as much money which reflects the price of the shell. Our drum is more comparable to the Ludwig Black Magic and Pearl Sensitone yet ours is more aesthetically pleasing with its brushed black nickel finish.
You can tell that Gary has the music in him. I'm about to pick up a StudioBirch kit in the near future. Compliments to Taye. I love the drums and hardware!
@atedj It really depends on what you're going for. Some guys like to leave their bass drums uncontrolled and wide open, but it's most common to use some sort of muffling. You can either get a drum head that has control built into the head, such as Dynaton's Dynamic Ring Control (DRC) or Evan's EMAD heads. Or you could just use a pillow which touches just one or both batter and resonant heads (a little too dead in my opinion). Play around with different set ups.
@TheXrythmicXtongue Yeah for sure. Honestly though, my favorite has to be the Aluminum Alloy Snare with wood hoops. That thing is a beast! Its got the sensitivety and tone of a metal drum, but those wood hoops really dry up the high pitched overtones, and you're left with some nice low to mid-range punch. I've never heard anything else like it. It's truly unique. Also diggin' the StudioMaple with wood hoops for its warmth. -Chris @ Taye
@MATTlovesDRUMS Thanks for commenting matt. No, all snares in this video are wide open, no muffling. The snare was tuned at its most resonant point - upper high end.
Gary's bad ! nice feel, groove master.

Thinking about the 6.5x14 brass snare. How does iscstack up against pearl sensitone or Ludwig black beauty?
