OMG, this scene...the surprise on his face when he (and us!) see(s) her... When I first saw this in theaters, there was an audible gasp from the audience. So infrequently do you hear people actually react to a movie in such a way... Hands down my favorite romantic movie.
I read that in the script the song he is referring to is The Beatles' "The Long And Winding Road". Ethan Hawke has actually written 2 books. I actually found him a good enough writer though I think "Ash Wednesday" is miles better than "The Hottest State" (if I'm not mistaken his first published novel).
I wish Linklater would make a film that uses this idea. Completely brilliant.

Ethan Hawke is such a great actor! No one could have done a better job than him in this movie.
