Julie Taymor talks about Spider-Man: The Musical

Julie Taymor did not make the Lion King successful. It was successful on it's own, award winning music, great story, art from Disney. She did nothing.

Now she thinks she can write, develop characters and put her own "spin " on the spiderman franchise. Now we know what she's really made off.

Ha.. Technically .. this will bring broadway up many notches. The sets are awesome, the stage articulates and lifts. But..... ha come on its not really worth the 10-20mil. investment. This will not run long enough to make any profit what so ever! I think once the thrill is over about the sets..ha via youtube up loads etc.. interest will die off quick. Not to mention Bono isn't known for his stellar business investments/decisions

Yes, Lion King already had music so it fit more than spider-man for a direct transition to Broadway- but how can you say that the music is going to be bad? BONO is making it, I mean come on! And when you have Rachel Wood, Jim Sturgess, Helen Mirren (maybe)... I wouldn't say its going to be bad until you actually start seeing some previews. I trust Julie Taymor to make something amazing :)

Everyone is hating on this and haven't even heard or seen the music/story/or screen play. After callbacks and listening to what they had, musically, i was pretty stoked. i think too many people think it's gonna be like the horrible movies they've put up in Hollywood. The musical can almost be Cirque ish.. i think it has serious potential as a musical. Also, Bono and The Edge aren't very "showtuney" so i doubt it'll sound like some of the" gay" musical theater that's already out there...

I heard about this around the same time I found out about Shrek the Musical. I thought both were incredibly stupid ideas. Oddly enough, I ended up completely ADORING Shrek the Musical. So maybe this will be good too.

I think this IS about being a brilliant director. Broadway isn't "running out of ideas"... I don't think a director like Julie Taymor ever runs out of ideas, quite frankly. If it's bad, then it will be a let down. I certainly don't think we should condemn it from the beginning to be a bad musical. That shows some very closemindedness. I would think Julie Taymor fans wouldn't be closeminded.

i'm a MAJOR theatre geek and I know what I'm talking about when I say she's taking this too far. It's too much of a risk, and honestly Spider-Man doesn't belong on Broadway. It's a Hollywood thing, why kill it with songs? It just doesn't fit.

Listen, it's not about being a brilliant director or not. Spiderman's just... one of the last things you find on a Broadway stage. This just really feel like a very sad example of the playwright's of Broadway running out of ideas. We need something new, not something bizarre.
